We came here because we have a visiting vegetarian, but we'll be back just because the food is so good and the prices reasonable. We started with hot and sour soup and wonton soup. Both were good. The broths do not have a meat stock, but were flavorful. The hot and sour had a slight sweetness, yet was hot (spicy) and was filled with tofu, mushrooms and other things. Really good soup. ($4)We also had two appetizers, the vegi duck and cilantro rolls (2 rolls for $6) and the crispy stuffed curry dumplings (6 for $7). Each was outstanding. The vegi-duck tasted just like duck - even in texture - and came with a rich plum sauce. The curry dumplings had a rich curry flavor, were well baked and delish. For entrees, we got the Spicy Tofu in Hot Pot (soft tofu, shiitake mushrooms, sliced gluten rolls in hot sauce), Kung Pao Chicken with Portabella Mushrooms and Green Peppers, and Crispy Sesame Beef with Walnuts. Each entree was $20. The Kung Pao and the Sesame Beef each were great. The entrees come with a portion of either white or brown rice - your choice included in the entree price. I was disappointed with the Spicy Tofu in Hot Pot. The menu says it is hot, and the server asked if it was ok that it was hot and I responded that it was. Honestly, the entree was only mildly spicy and with only the tofu, mushrooms and gluten, it was a bit boring. But that was my ordering. I'll order next time one of the "meat dishes," since the other two entrees were very good. It leaves me wondering how "spicy" the other spicy dishes on the menu are. I'll also try more of the appetizers. It's a nice, extensive menu. Service was very good. We felt truly welcomed and that our visit was appreciated. There was lots of food and lots of leftovers.

This place is a gem whole in the wall.Lemon chicken is usually my go-to. Location always has parking. The inside needs a remodel- very old kitchen feel- but it's nice to feel transported back in time sometimes too. Cannot figure out why it's always barely any customers but maybe I'm not going at peak times! I hope more people give it a try because I really appreciate the variety of alternative meats they have here! Will try the Peking duck next time as I am seeing many reviews on it. Service is usually straight to the point but good.

It was our first time going... and let me tell you it won't be the last! The seating is intimate, but they have giant tables that can fit up to 10, and booths as well! They were very accommodating and gave us a highchair for our new little foodie. When they say everything is vegetarian.. they mean EVERYTHING! It was so refreshing to go somewhere and get anything you want, and still have amazing flavors! Nothing was too spicy or off.. I can't wait for us to try more dishes! And service was impeccable. The owners were both there: the husband cooks and wife was making sure all the guest enjoyed their experience!

Had Yuan Fu a second time and it was ready good, again! This time, I ordered the mock roast duck, the pineapple fried rice, and the Sichuan string beans. The rice was light and flavorful, the mock duck was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and the string beans were very well seasoned and crunchy!I also love talking to the owner. She's so sweet. It's no wonder her restaurant has been open for over 25 years.

Vegan reviewer here! It was my first time to Yuan Fu Vegetarian and based on the reviews I was really excited to try them out. I went on a Friday night around 8 PM. From the outside it's nothing spectacular which is a great sign of authenticity. Right when you enter there's booths and tables with the counter at the back. They were about 1/4 occupied. I decided to seat myself in a booth and was greeted right away and handed a menu and was asked what I wanted to drink. I ended up deciding on the pecking duck which was the most recommended menu item and the vegetable chow foon since that dish is one of my favorites to order at any Asian restaurant. The both dishes came out about 10 minutes later. I had never had real pecking duck but wow this was delicious. The plum sauce really complimented the dish. Definitely order this dish. The chow foon was alright. Rice noodles really soak up any sauce you put on it so I was disappointed when there wasn't much flavor. The noodles were also pretty soft and I like them to have a bit of a bite. I asked for chili oil and soy sauce to jazz it up and it did the trick. I have a big appetite but had to ask for boxes. The service and food were great overall and I definitely plan on coming back and trying other dishes. One thing I will say is I asked for an itemized receipt and they had to handwrite it since they don't have a digital system. Both dishes came out to just under $35. Can't wait to come back!

I hope they fix the air conditioning because I would have not wanted to participate in a fan war. Let me explain. Our party of five came in for dinner on a Sunday evening. We were seated next to a party of eight who had just finished their meal. They had already paid and had their take out containers sitting on the table. We sat down and placed our order. It was very hot that evening and there was a large fan sitting on a table that was pointing at the party of eight. There was no other circulating air as the restaurant didn't have any windows that they open. We got our drinks and appetizers delivered and the large party was still lingering around. We thought since they were done eating and looked like they were ready to leave, we turned the fan slightly so that it was blowing BOTH tables. About half an hour later, the large party was still there. Someone from their table got up and turned the fan back to themselves. Since someone at our table was uncomfortably hot, one of our friends was more than happy to trade seats with him so he could be a little closer to the fan. After the fan was moved back to the large party, someone from our table got up and again moved it so BOTH tables could make use of the fan. Another half hour into our meal, the large party was still in the restaurant. They didn't order anything new and sat with their take out containers on the table. They moved the fan entirely back to themselves. Now there were more customers in the restaurant and many of them were sitting in our section and none of us could feel the breeze of the fan. So we gave up. We finished our meal and left while the large party was still in the restaurant, an hour we have arrived.Sorry but I just had to get it out there. This all could have been avoided if the restaurant's A/C was working. Now on to the food. I have heard of this place for a really long time, two decades maybe? My vegetarian friends have said nothing but nice things about this place. It is such an innovative place. No where else in this area can you find find authentic Chinese dishes that are entirely vegetarian. Here are the dishes that our party of five (really sweltering hot diners) ordered:Singapore Noodles* My friend ordered this dish and she asked that it be made spicy. No problem our waitress said. I got to try some of the noodles and it wasn't very spicy but still very good. It had the curry taste that you would be familiar with in any singapore noodle dish. Definitely one of the best dishes we ordered.Veggie Duck with basil and ginger in hot pot* This was the dish that I ordered. I wanted a "meat" dish to see how it compares to the real thing. The "duck" was tofu skin. Though it was not at all "duck", it was still a good dish. I love basil in any dish! I didn't like the ginger that much. You can't eat it and I thought it just took up space in my bowl. I also got this with brown rice. You get a choice of white or brown. Moo Shi (Shu) Pork* A very good dish. The "pork" was strips of dried tofu. I thought it was well prepared and liked how they managed to make it look like pork. Kung Pao Beef with Green Bell Peppers* A visually lovely dish of bright colored green and yellow peppers. I think the "beef" was seitan. Very tasty. I like seitan but not so much peppers or else I would have ordered this dish.Chicken with mixed vegetables* Pretty standard. Again, a visually appealing dish with bright veggies.I think what makes this place a sensation is that they have the sauces right. Everything that I tasted was exactly what I would find in any authentic Chinese restaurant.

Yuan Fu is a treasured local 100% vegan business. It is a spot worth traveling to with a large selection of plant based entrees. The service here is fantastic. The dining room is often empty and you choose where you want to sit. You are immediately greater and your order is taken as soon as you are ready. The owner, Mary, is typically present and offers great recommendations on her favorite menu items.I went with a group of friends to share many meals. We started with the crispy tarp root balls. This appetizer is my favorite! The outside is so crispy and the inside is as soft as mashed potatoes with whole veggies dispersed throughout. I love the texture difference between the crisp outside and the soft inside, and the flavor is savory with a little bit of sweetness. The star of the show was the Veggie Duck Hot Pot. It came to the table sizzling! I absolutely loved the presentation! This meal was so flavorful with a heavy amount of ginger and basil. There were actual ginger chunks in this meal that I do not recommend chewing on. All the other items in this dish are meant to eat and were tender and juicy. The spicy tofu hot pot had a stunning presentation as well. It was a very light dish with soft tofu. I liked how this meal helped balance some of the heaviness of the other entrees. Flavor wise it was not as memorable as the duck dish. Finally the Three Kinds of Crispy Delight was a good dish but not my favorite of the selection. Every component of it was perfectly crispy. I really enjoyed the crispy eggplant pieces. It had typical fried flavors and did not offer anything new and exciting. I think this meal is perfect for your vanilla friend that doesn't want to eat vegan and only likes flavors they are comfortable with. This menu item definitely has a good purpose at Yuan Fu, it just is not my preference.Overall I only have positive experiences at Yuan Fu and wish I saw this place look busier. They are guaranteed to have a few menu items you will love. Their menu ranges from American Chinese Food to traditional Chinese entrees. Their price point is great considering their portion size. I highly recommend this business and will definitely be back to try more meals!

The food is consistently good. It's vegetarian, but if you didn't know it, you woud think it's real chicken, meat, etc. It's a cozy place, old style feel, where the the staff is friendly and the owner will remember you with a big "Welcome Back!" and wave. I keep coming back for their delicious food!
