Was in the area visiting the Basilica and found this gem of a store on my way back to Metro at Brookland-CUA. The staff are unbelievable and so friendly and helpful. The entire area is superb. I got a little disoriented and a nice lady walked me to the Metro stop as there are zero signs pointing you to the Metro. The staff at Wardman are so welcoming, so helpful, and truly nice people. They helped me find a local grocery store to buy mixers. The prices are great and the friendliness of the staff simply superb! Great job!

Since leaving Brookland this is one shop I try to make a point of trekking out to visit. Really thoughtful selection of wines and liquors in a range of price points, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and fun tastings during pre (and hopefully post-) pandemic times.

Whether you know what you want or are looking for a recommendation I highly recommend Wardman Wines. A+ customer service! It's evident everyone there is not only knowledgeable, but enjoys what they do. Based on a previous blend that I had created a staff member chose selections he thought I'd enjoy and explained each one thoroughly! I cannot say enough good things about Wardman. Next time looking I'm forward to trying a mezcal tequila.

This is the sort of wine shop you develop a relationship with - so glad we live in the neighborhood. The place is fantastic for all the reasons other reviews say: great selection of wines, knowledgeable staff, many tasting events, solid rewards system - you can even bring your dog in to browse with you. They do a great job balancing their audiences - from the Catholic U student to the DC professionals.A few data points:- Their mailing list advertises all their numerous fantastic events. Seriously, sign up now. - My company chose Wardman Wines to help out with our corporate gifting, gave them parameters for the wines, and they made a fantastic selection that clients commented on for several months after Christmas. - My husband wanted to celebrate a major life event, and emailed Wardman Wines in the middle of the day asking them to set aside sparkling wine for a surprise. They were on their game, chilled and wrapped the wine and made the experience very special. - The owner seriously knows his stuff - but so do all the staff I've met. This is not the case at most wine shops I've encountered in DC.- My husband and I used to live near a specific wine region and thought we knew the region well. Wardman Wines, knowing our preferences, recommended we try a winery we hadn't heard of from that region and we've since fallen in love with it. - I brought them a bottle of wine they didn't stock but they expeditiously ordered it and were great about communicating delivery options, passed along a discount, etc.

I can't say enough good things about Wardman! I have never pulled a bad bottle of wine from their shelves, and they do lovely tastings every Friday. Their selection of spirits is small but amazingly curated. Try Pinhook Rye, my new favorite whisky!

This is a cute wine shop with friendly staff and is conveniently located by the brookland metro. Unfortunately most of the wines I've bought there have been subpar. Recently I stopped by to pick up a bottle for dinner. I asked for help selecting a food friendly Italian since I didn't know many of their wines on the shelves. The clerk pointed me to a Barolo that was about $20. I was not expecting a Brunelo for $20 but that's certainly enough to spend to get a drinkable wine. Unfortunately, it was terrible. Thin, unbalanced, and bad to the point that I thought it might just have been spoiled or oxidized. I brought the bottle back after taking just a couple of sips to exchange for something else. Rather than take my word for it that the wine was bad, the clerk brought it to the owner, who tasted it and said, there's nothing wrong with it--I wouldn't drink it and it's not good, but it's not a spoiled bottle. Why are you selling something that you don't think is any good?! Eventually he allowed me to exchange the bottle for another that was about half the price of the Barolo.I want to like this place, but for my budget of $15-$20 per bottle, I think it's worth driving out to Total Wine in MacLean which seems to offer much better wines in my range.

I love this place! It's sosososo convenient and they always have what I'm looking for. The people that work there also give such great advice! Much of the time that I purchase wine it's either to cook with or to serve with dinner. The employees will go out of their way to ask what I'm making to find the best fit. Also their points system is fire!! So far I've scored 2 totally free packs of beer.

I'm so glad this is my neighborhood wine shop. They have a great selection of wine, spirits and beer complimented by a stellar, knowledgeable staff to help you navigate your options. Curbside pick-up during COVID has been seamless and is a testament to the care they give their neighbors and staff. The reward points are an added bonus, as are the dog treats and friendly conversation with all of the folks that make Wardman what it is. If you live in the neighborhood do yourself a favor and stop by. If you don't, it's worth the trip.
