This is my favorite ramen spot! The vegan tomyum ramen is absolutely delicious, with a flavorful broth that has the perfect amount of spice. It's loaded with veggies and paired with smooth noodles--definitely a standout dish. I've also tried their edamame gyoza, which is tasty on its own but even better when paired with their chili oil.My husband tried the chicken karaage curry and the spicy miso ramen, and he was most impressed by the crispy chicken, which was perfectly fried and added great texture to the dish. The place is quite small, with seating for about 20-25 people, so be prepared for a bit of a wait if you go during peak times. I'd recommend opting for to-go orders instead, so you can enjoy your warm food in the comfort of your own home.

I am giving this place 3 stars because of the interaction I had with my server. I was paying in cash and he asked if I wanted change. For me, I think it's a small turn-off, but I was like whatever. Then he asked if we were going to tip! Now that is what knocked 2 stars off my rating. No server should ask that because I tip based on my experience. I would've given 20% if he didn't ask for tip. I am not sure if it's because my friend and I look young, or if they had customers who didn't tip. This tiny restaurant gives the right amount of meat for its price, compared to other bigger restaurants! The tonkotsu ramen had flavor and it wasn't too salty or anything, better than Jinya in my opinion. Having 2 slices of pork should be the standard for all restaurants serving this dish. The Tonkatsu rice bowl was pretty good too, with the sauce on the thinner side.

I really like the small intimate nature of this restaurant. It reminds me of the smaller places in Japan. I thought the food was good but wasn't blown away. I'm thankful there's a place though in NOVA that has a flavorful broth for the ramen. Chasu was cooked very well and it wasn't tough or dry at all. Curry puffs were just alright. It was more bland than expected but overall restaurant was solid for ramen.

The seating is very limited/ location is tiny, so be ready for a wait time.Food overall was amazing!Still thinking of that curry chicken karaage & can't wait to try again. The ramen was some of the better japanese ramen i've tasted.

Still one of my favorite places for Ramen but now they have Khao Mun Gai!!Steam chicken with rice cook in chicken fatty broth. Everything about this dish is basic Thai comfort food. It also come with side broth and spicy sauce to eat with the chicken and rice. I love but if you don't like steam chicken you get it fried with crispiness yuzu Lychee sake- Bomb delicious, don't taste the alcahol but you will feel it . I can drink so much of this because it sweet but refreshing at the same time

Went back last week for my wedding anniversary dinner with my wife and they are still on top. My favorite place to get khao soi (just ask them to make it more mild if you can't handle heat). Still as flavorful and filling as before. We also got the yuzu lychee sake and it was the bomb dot com. Sweet and refreshing, loved it. For appetizer, we got Chashu pork buns and it was tender and tasty as can be. I tried the new chicken item and enjoyed it, but it had too many onions/shallots for my taste. The cheesecake was alright. Inside, it's a very comforting atmosphere, and I feel like I'm back in Japan when I'm here. Not a lot of seating so def make a reservation if you have more than 2 people. I'll be back sooner than later haha.

Umai has friendly and helpful staff as well as pretty good ramen! The spicy miso actually tasted like miso and reminded me a little of Korean doenjang jjigae. The charsiu wasn't great with the spicy miso broth. Solid portion size as well.A little bit tight to sit down for a long time but good for a quick meal.

I got the chance to visit Umai with my wife recently and had a great experience. This venue only seats about 25-30 in total. Unfortunately, they do not take reservations but they do have a waiting list. The wait time for us was about 15 mins. The server was great and did a great job. He had great energy and great recommendations. We tried the seaweed salad and karaage chicken to start. My wife ended up getting the Umai Curry Ramen and I got the Ebi Fry Curry. Both amazing dishes. Definitely a great experience.

Tiny but extremely popular, and very affordably priced, hole-in-the-wall Japanese spot Only have 2ish lower tables, 3ish hightop tables, and bar seating inside, but also have a couple of tables outside. This being said, the place is in the middle of a shopping plaza, and the tables that are outside are smack in the middle of the sidewalk/walking area for the plazaMenu is on a QR code. Have a wide variety of both food and drink optionsMy GF and I each got a ramen, and I got a cocktail as well. Everything was very high quality and tasty, but the ramen honestly had too much in it and I could barely get to the actual soupService is very on-top of things, but, since they churn through so many people, the fact that they are so on top of things does make the whole experience feel a little rushed
