This is my favorite Ramen. I've been eating here since the first one was in Herndon until now they have opened a second one in Tyson. For appetizers, I like the gyoza because they are homemade here. But actually, I like all the appetizers they have. For ramen, I like the Spicy Miso Ramen because the shop has a strong taste and medium spicy. And I love Tonkotsu Ramen. what I like more is the pork chashu. Because The pork is tender and has a nice smell like a chacoal from grilling it just right and chashu it's not frozen. And My husband favorite dish always has Khao soy (Thai curry with Chicken)so good . That's why I love this place .Nice ambiance ,Good food, Good service.

Umai Ramen & Donburi in Tysons is a fantastic spot for ramen lovers! It's located underneath Walmart, so parking in the garage is the best option. The food was absolutely delicious, with the 5 Spice Beef Ramen being the standout--rich, flavorful broth with perfectly cooked noodles and tender beef. The customer service was great, with friendly and attentive staff. The ambience is also really nice, making it a cozy and enjoyable place to dine. If you're in the area and craving ramen, this spot is a must-try!

I am having an extremely hard time understanding why there are so many high reviews for this place. It's actually quite mind-boggling as the food & service was one of the worst that I've had in a long time. I've had a quite a share of Japanese ramen ranging from ones in Osaka to Paris to NYC and DMV area. I haven't quite found a place that does ramen like its motherland; however, this place doesn't even come remotely close. And due to the size of our party (total of 7), I ended up tasting a lot of different items on the menu and absolutely nothing stood out:-chicken karaage (comes with only 5-6 small pieces or so; salty); -steamed edamame (really just average; nothing special); -takoyaki (average and the octopus balls are really small);-tonkotsu ramen (overly greasy with intense pork smell; broth is much thicker here than other ramen places in the DMV area);-chicken katsu curry (easily could make the curry using one of the boxes sold at the Asian grocery stores...nothing special except it was overly salty; the chicken katsu was not fully cooked with pink flesh shown and had to send it back to the kitchen; the breading was not crispy and appears to have run through an air fryer of precooked katsu);-chicken katsu "bowl" (below average; katsu not fully cooked and sauce was so salty that I ended up using the spicy mayo sauce from the chicken karaage);-katsu don (the saltiness overpowers any taste)-salmon teriyaki "bowl" (a typical teriyaki sauce with steamed veggies; nothing stood out) The biggest complaint of it all was that the chicken from the both katsu meals were undercooked to the point that you can see visible pink flesh in the center. The waitress/manager took them back only to bring out the same meat after what it appears to be "thrown" into the air fryer and/or microwave for about 10 minutes. I assumed they'll cook fresh new entrees as many restaurants will apologize and will make a fresh meal. However, the meat were brought back out using the same side plates that was initially given to be sent back to the kitchen. You would've thought that after a second try that the meat will be cooked only to realize the pink flesh was still there for my son's chicken katsu. Instead of being genuinely apologetic about their mistakes and trying to earn their customers back; the manager was all about babbling on about how "right" they were despite seeing the pink flesh herself. She continued to go on about telling me the process of how they cook their katsu and what they do to prepare them. She showed no concern but to tell me that she'll take the chicken katsu curry meal off of my check and asked, "Is there anything else you want me to do?" As a customer, it's really difficult to continue on the conversation when a business approaches their mistakes without owning it but rather make excuses for them. And then asks in a manner of, "What you want me to do about it?" If they sincerely apologized for their mishaps and worked to make things better, I will not be wasting my time writing this review to let others know what could happen to them. It's not about taking a meal off of my bill and I don't care about a bowl of free green tea ice cream...what they failed that day was to earn back their customers. When these actions don't match up to their attitude, customer service, and fully acknowledging their mistakes, they all become meaningless. How accurate are the reviews that are currently up and running? Not quite sure.Side Note:1. Parking garage is available for parking, and limited parking spots outside the restaurant.2. The restaurant itself is not very big so if you do want to eat here, it may be best to make reservations. 3. Average-sized portion Price: $$$

I ordered a sake don with sushi right which was an extra charge. It comes with a bit of wasabi and yellow picked radish. The sushi rice is nicely seasoned and rice cooked properly. The salmon slices were a bit scant and thin for me but it was at least fresh and has a nice texture. The service was exceptional. The order came out quickly.

Flavorful ramen broth and appetizers that keep you wanting more! The Chasu buns were so tasty and have an airy bite, I could order more and make that my main dish! The ramen was savory and not too salty. Even as leftovers, the broth and extra side of noodles pared nicely for an evening snack. Service was quick and friendly, and our space was nice and clean.

Its a good portion size- was definitely full after. The appetizers were good but probably will try something new next time. The uni cream croquette was good but wish there was a bit more uni flavor- very creamy inside.

I'm a HUGE ramen lover. I was beyond excited to see this open in our neighborhood. We have been here a few times since it's opened. The staff is very attentive and friendly. We especially like Chris, the bartender. It's a smaller restaurant, but very clean and they always have great music playing. A bonus! What we have had:Spicy miso ramen: this is my favorite of the broths I've tried. I like to order it with grilled chicken and extra veggies. The grilled chicken is cooked perfectly and always moist.Tonkotsu: this would my second favorite. The broth is flavorful, creamy and delicious. I couldn't stop stealing spoonfuls of my husbands bowl. Shoyu: this is a soy sauce broth. It's very nice for a lighter broth. Good flavor.Kaarage: so good. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and always very juicy. It's one of our faves to orderGyoza: I love the gyoza and these are yummy. Great flavorChawanmushi: it's a steamed egg custard. As my husband dug deeper in the bowl, he found lots of little surprises like mushrooms, fish cake, and shrimp. It was nice. Combo khao gai tod: so good. It's a combo of poached chicken and fried chicken. The poached chicken is simmered in garlic and ginger water. That water is used to make the rice. A bite of both with the soybean sauce, heaven. I highly recommend checking this place out if you have a chance. And they have a full bar with good happy hour deals. Go see Chris. He will take care of you.

I was thrilled to see that one of my all-time favorite restaurants, Umai, has opened a new location in Tysons! Their original spot in Herndon has been my go-to for incredible tonkatsu ramen, and I'm happy to report that the quality at the Tysons location is just as amazing. The new space is much larger and has a really cool vibe--low lighting and an ambient atmosphere that makes it perfect for a night out. The tonkatsu ramen was just as rich and flavorful as I remembered, with that perfect creamy broth that hits all the right notes. I also tried the lychee yuzu sake, which was refreshing and had just the right balance of sweetness and citrus.I'm so glad to see Umai thriving and expanding; it's well-deserved success for a place that truly delivers on quality and atmosphere. Looking forward to many more visits here!

Overall a 4.5/5 but will bump to a 5/5 for good izakaya options.Umai Ramen & Donburi opened not too long ago and it's been on my list after hearing good things from my co-worker. A couple friends and I stopped by for dinner last Tuesday and had a good experience. I would recommend making a Yelp reservation in advance. It was relatively packed at around 7 PM when we were there. We ordered a couple starters to share and our own entree.CHAWANMUSHI - 8This has got to be one of my favorite chawanmushis I've had. The steamed egg was so light and fluffy, packed with an incredible amount of umami from various sources: shrimp, mushroom, truffle oil, and more. This was such a nice way to start my meal and I would highly recommend giving this a try. I would not recommend sharing because you will not want to.FRIED OYSTERS - 10Each order comes with five fried oysters. The Tonkatsu mayo on the side was pretty good, but you don't need it for it to be good. The oysters were pretty juicy and had a nice, outer crunch. It's not stellar, so I'll probably try something else next time.UNI CREAM CROQUETTE - 10Each order comes three fat croquettes, covered in a blanket of tonkatsu mayo. Because of the delicate and light flavors of uni (and it's uni cream, so the uni is probably quite diluted), it's kind of hard to pick it out when each piece is drenched with the mayo sauce. I would ask for the sauce on the side in the future so I can enjoy the croquette without too much of it so I can enjoy the uni more.TONKOTSU RAMEN - 18The pork broth is insanely rich and fatty, almost like tsukemen broth level. The first sip was hearty, but after awhile, it was not as enjoyable to sip on. The sesame garlic oil also made it more dense. I personally prefer a lighter broth. The pork chashu was delicious and seared with a delicious marinade. I loved the black fungus, green onions, and seaweed toppings. The noodles had the perfect texture and soaked up the flavors of the broth well. I would recommend, but only if you like rich broths.I've heard great things about the mazemen and chicken karaage curry rice so I'll have to try it next time. I look forward to trying more of the izakaya options here, too.

We went to Umai for my friends birthday last week and she really loved it. We tried a couple of the cocktails and they were both amazing! Those drinks alone are enough to make us want to go back. The ramen was pretty good, and my friend loveddd it. I particularly liked the Salmon Tataki.
