Came here on Saturday 11/2 for brunch right before Adams Morgan Porchfest. It's self seating with a mix of 2-4 table seating and couches. My friend was able to snag us a seat at a small bar area at the window within 10mins of arriving so that was clutch. I had:Americano - 10/10 - with half and half and added vanilla syrup. It did the job and was nice paired with the waffle. Waffle w/ a side of bacon - 10/10 - the waffle was perfect in terms of texture. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside and soaked up the syrup well. You got 6 pieces of bacon with the size order, nothing crazy to report there. There was a bussing station right behind us so that was fairly noisy with the constant clash of dishes going into it. Our table was also extremely wobbly, to the point that cutting into my waffle (which required little effort) led to me spilling my Americano (you can see the soaked napkin in the picture). Lots of flies and a bee joined us for our meal so that wasn't fun but overall the meal was good. Our waitress was attentive and very apologetic for any delay, they were busy considering the porchfest so I thought that service was exceptional considering the influx of people.

Used to be my favorite coffee shop in DC, I came here almost once a week for a couple years straight. But then recently they added a 10% automatic new fee, citing the new DC tip laws. Unfortunately there's no actual explanation as to why this added fee is necessary for the business, just some vague line about the new laws having an effect on small businesses. And to make matters worse , none of the 10% goes towards staff. If there's such a big difference in this new law, the the owners should put out a detailed explanation as to why a 10% upcharge is necessary to sustain the business long-term. Without doing that, it makes it seem like you're just capitalizing on a new law to make more of a profit. The coffee here really is amazing, but it's not worth paying eight dollars for a drink before I can even tip the staff. I will not be coming back to Tryst unless they adequately explain up charging their customers or remote this ridiculous new fee.

what's better than a fresh salad? a seasonal fresh salad. - inside of this cafe is absolutely was giving ~the set of friends~ it is legit set up like a living room, so many fun seating options. service was quick too. maybe too quick tho bc the man next to us was given menus like 3 times even after ordering ... lol - this seasonal salad was delicious. it has two (count em!!) colors of beets, pomegranate, oranges, feta! the lemon dressing was light yet flavorful. the sweetness of the fruit and beets went perfectly with the tart lemon dressing, peppery arugula, and salty tangy feta. yes yes yes a complete flavor profile!!- $13 price tag hallelujah this is unheard of for a sit down spot! the prices of the whole menu were not shabby, below $15 for smoothie bowls, sandwiches, and breakfast items! however don't even get me started on adding chicken or any protein for SIX DOLLAHS. I could buy an entire pack of four servings of seasoned, sliced, cooked chicken breast at trader joes for that exact same price. don't be criminal people.

I came here to work one morning and I was not the only one who had that idea! Good wifi and comfy seating, it's very cozy and chill vibes in there. They have full table service so seat yourself and the staff will come to you. I ordered a banana nut muffin which had surprise chocolate chips in it! I also got the chorizo breakfast burrito. It was solid but I felt like it was almost missing that classic chorizo flavor and texture. They let me sit and work for 3 hours before politely bringing me the check to tab out. Also, they have movie trivia on Thursdays which is made for me!! I would definitely give this one another try.

What a cute little joint!! First and foremost - LOVE the gluten free pastries for my GF folks out there. Service was great - fast and very friendly.Only reason I have 4 and not 5 stars is because my drink was incredibly incredibly sweet and syrupy (I got a vanilla latte). This could definitely be the particular barista who made my drink and not a representation of the whole place (and maybe you'd like that super sweetness!) - but it was so sweet and thick for me personally that I couldn't finish it. I'd still be willing to give it another shot and just note that I want light/normal syrup.

3.5 star .... Service was excellent ... the atmosphere is awesome ... great place to chill for a bit. It appears they are almost too reasonable with people who may be here all day taking up real estate. I was here 3 days in a row. Quiche Lorraine the first day was very good. Second day spinach and feta croissant with a side of eggs... excellent deal and tastes very good. The third day I had the classic waffle... definitely not impressed with this one. I'm by no means a waffle expert but I do like mine crisp and light... or if its dense for sure not undercooked as this one appeared to be as seen in the photo attached. I pressed inside with finger showing this. I was expecting more because of the reviews of the others... also the syrup was served cold.

I came here right after an open house and Adams Morgan and I thought the location was super good! I got the hot Cindy sandwich which was super Duper good I don't really like tuna, but I honestly made me like tuna more! I got the frozen and it was pretty good. I got the cinnamon roll as well. I didn't eating too much of it but the one I had was pretty good as well. This place was packed on Saturday morning understandably because it was so good. The service was super Duper fast and they were really on top of it. it was cute café with plenty of seating and takeout

They say service is everything, and that is why this review that should easily be four stars or more resides at a lowly 2 star rating. We attended a wedding in Washington DC on Labor Day weekend, and a few of the group headed out to brunch on Sunday Sept. 1.Ordered a Chai Latte and cucumber lemonade, and they did not disappoint at all. Very good beverages all around. When handed the menu, the waiter had headphones on and chose to not say a word at all. No warm morning greeting, no "how are you today." That's just awful for someone in the service industry. He was quickly replaced by a female coworker, who came to the table and abruptly uttered "what do you want?" That was the entire inquiry, and again, no greeting or kind words of any kind. She returned with the food, and that's the last we ever saw of her. I guess she got busy, so we had to ask another waiter to bring the check to the table. This young lady belongs in the hospitality trades, as she was cordial and kind.I doubt we'll be back to Washington any time soon, but certainly wouldn't frequent this place if we went back.General Manager - run your staff through the basics of kindness and warmth. Your business actually depends on it.

Tryst has been around a while as I've been here 3 times. The first time was WAY back in 2011. All 3 of the times were associated with dates or women.November 2011:Date with a woman from online. I think she was a District dweller. I thought the drink was good as I recall, and I remember it's a cute place with coffee, tea, & even alcohol. Date was decent, but it was one of those one & done.February 2017:I picked this because my friend was performing Live music, which yes, Tryst does have, which is cool. Another online date, on an unseasonably mild rainy night, which I had thought went well, but she ghosted me.September 2022:Over Labor Day weekend that year, I went on a large Meetup walking tour of Woodley Park & Adams Morgan talking about the history of the area. After the long walk, I was hungry & thirsty. I ended up getting a wrap or sandwich as well as a drink. I remember the service being slow. The food was pretty good, the drink was average. They aren't terribly friendly in here. The interesting thing was there was a cute visually impaired woman on the tour who agreed to go with me to lunch here. We had a nice conversation eating on their outside seating on that nice warm day. At the end, I asked for her phone number, and that's when she mentioned her boyfriend! Conclusion:Tryst is a decent option for Adams Morgan. It is a cute place. The drinks are decent, but nothing to write home about. The food was pretty good. The service was slow, and they weren't very friendly. This place was a mixed bag for me.
