I've been to this restaurant many times when I'm craving a great steak, and it never disappoints. This time, I decided to try something different and ordered the meatballs and a half-dozen oysters, and they were absolutely spot on. The flavors were fresh and perfectly balanced. Our waiter, an experienced and friendly older gentleman, made the evening even better with his attentive service and deep knowledge of the menu. Despite it being a busy Friday night, the ambiance was delightful, with a live piano player serenading the crowd with some wonderful tunes. Portion sizes are generous, and I left with plenty of leftovers to enjoy the next day. It's always a pleasure dining here, and I'll definitely be back.

Came in with 3 others on Valentine's Day. We had a reservation and were met at the door with red roses. The inside is gorgeous. Dimly lit with high ceilings and sparkling chandeliers. There is a full bar, plenty of indoor seating and more tables upstairs. The sea bass was very good, the fish was cooked perfectly and I liked the portion size of the garlic mashed potatoes. The steak frites were amazing as well. The salmon was moist and flaky with a great butter sauce. Service was subpar, I am assuming because it was Valentine's Day but our drinks took over 30 minutes to come out and our food took about 40 minutes to come out. We had to flag our server down for the check and for more water. I think the backup was due to the Valentine's Day crowd, overall I would recommend Trulucks for any special occasion!

I visited for restaurant week. Very accommodating with the menu choices to make the dinning experience desirable. They have 3 mocktails. I had the blackberry bramble. I didn't like it. 1/5Now for the dinner.Appetizer- lobster bisque. Smaller than i expected, but it was enjoyable. 4/5.Entree- Broiled salmon. It usually comes with mash potatoes but I was allowed to substitute with vegetables instead which I appreciated . 5/5Supplemental- crab fried rice. This was really good, it had some lingering sweetness to it that had you going back for more. 5/5Dessert- carrot cake with candied pecans. This was a knockout. So rich and sweet. 5/5I wrapped up dinner with green tea and really enjoyed it because they use loose leaf. 5/5

Nice ambience and great for a birthday or date night but the food is just okay and overpriced. We went for Valentine's Day and we had a late reservation, but seemed like our food took forever to come out. The drinks we had were delicious. We had the voila which was super cute with the dry ice and a jalapeño blackberry margarita. For appetizers we had the calamari which was fried to perfection and a few Rockefeller oysters which were also tasty. Since we waited a while for our food, we were given complimentary bread which was just okay, nothing special. My ribeye was a little overcooked but still tender, the rockfish was overcooked and dry and barely any crab fried rice with it. We ended up sending that back but kept the fried lobster tails, Caesar salad and creamed spinach. It all tasted okay , nothing spectacular.

It was a great experience. I can't stress enough how good the service was that Tone provided. He was very attentive and the fact that he was Jamaican made the evening better for the bday girl. The food was delish. I had to have my steak refired. Asking for medium is NOT asking for rare. The snafu was short lived and everything was great. The restaurant felt cold. Was surprised by that. It was a cold night in WDC but that didn't explain why it felt cold in the restaurant. Good job Trulucks! See you again in the future

Truluck's proved to be an excellent choice for our client lunch, as the restaurant's Power Lunch menu provided a well-curated dining experience at a reasonable price point. I opted for the two-course meal, which began with a delightful Lobster Bisque followed by Sesame Seared Tuna was equally impressive. While the overall service was very good, there was one minor hiccup worth noting. The server responsible for refilling our water glasses seemed to struggle with the technique, resulting in a few instances of water spilling onto the table. A bit of coaching on the proper way to twist the bottle when pouring could go a long way in addressing this small issue.Nonetheless, the high-quality food, impeccable ambience, and the opportunity for valuable client bonding made this lunch a resounding success.

I had an amazing experience at Truluck's! The food was incredibly fresh, and the service was excellent. This was my first time visiting this location, and after hearing so many great things, I was excited to try it for my birthday. The restaurant itself is stunning, with gorgeous chandeliers that truly take your breath away. We started with the stone crab and jumbo cocktail shrimp, both of which were absolutely delicious. For my entrée, I had the blue crab stuffed lobster tails, and they did not disappoint--it was a dish I thoroughly enjoyed.Truluck's made my birthday special, and I'm looking forward to dining here again!

We had the pleasure of Veronica serving us this afternoon. Like Really...where did you find Veronica, the epitome of perfect dining service. We were greeted by the manager who was very professional. Veronica was knowledgeable about the menu, wine pairings and just on top of everything. Veronica brought back high level service. The atmosphere is lovely with beautiful chandeliers, dim lighting and large potted dracaena's. I ordered the stone crab which came with 7 medium and a side for around $65. The stone crab was sweet and rich. My partner got the lunch special with wedge salad and chicken stroganoff. He enjoyed it a lot. The Caesar salad is the best you can get. Definitely dont miss this place when you are in Downtown DC and ask for Veronica... you wont be disappointed.

New favorite happy hour unlocked! In case you didn't know, Truluck's has happy hour from open-6pm. If you go, I highly recommend the meatballs. The taste is just *chefs kiss* and the meatballs are made from their leftover cuts of beef. The bartenders are super friendly which is great if you're going there solo.

Came in to celebrate my birthday and let's just say it started off great and ended with me leaving hungry and disappointed. While there were great parts of the dinner, the sole reason for me being there was because I had a taste for stone crab...therefore this review and eating will explain the lack of stars. Drinks: Ordered an Volia and it was delicious as usual. Food: Started with the Parker house rolls...chef's kiss as well. Perfect! No notes!! My partner ordered the sea bass. Although she asked for extra glaze cooked on her fish, they put it on the side. Other than that, she said the fish was pretty good. Here's where things took a turn for the worse. I ordered the large stone crab platter with a jumbo claw and fried rice instead of the potatoes. The jumbo claw was perfect. The larges....NO. The first was good. The second had a funky smell and then chewing, it was mushy. I alerted Gage to the issue. He offered to replace it, and I agreed. When I went to eat the next claw, the lower part had a tang to it. When I removed the shells from the rest of the claw, it too was mushy. Gage stated he would get them all replaced. The manager, Bond, came over and said he would personally make sure the next ones were perfect. He bought out the replacements upgraded to jumbo with assurance that I wouldn't be disappointed. Let's just say that things didn't go well. The first was great. The second was mushy. Tried the third and the meat felt like it just melted between my fingers. Anyone that eats crab knows that is a major red flag. I sent them back by Gage. Bond came over to check and make sure everything was okay. I let him know those weren't any better. He asked if he could get me another entree but I declined. Bond said they had just came in the day before...even made the joke he ate 2 to make sure they were good. Apparently he had the 2 that should have been on my plate lol. I told him no thank you because I couldn't handle more disappointment. He apologized and even removed them from the check, which we didn't know until the end. Because of my birthday they had something sweet for me. They bought out a baked Alaska. This was another red flag. First the alcohol didn't cook off the meringue, so it was a mouth full of alcohol. Considering I love a good drink, I thought I could handle it...I couldn't. On the reservation we made sure to note that I have a nut allergy. The baked Alaska had a coffee ice cream on the bottom layer that had some type of nut in it. When we were told no nuts were in the ice cream, my partner showed them where she found 5 nuts from the ice cream. We received an apology and Gaged offered to get me the Vickie cake instead. I declined again. I couldn't fathom what would happen next. Service: Our server, Gage, was very attentive and fast. Bond was really nice as well. They both tried to rectify the issues but I didn't want to try anything else. Overall: I was not only disappointed because it's my birthday but also because we drove over an hour just for the claws. My drink and the rolls were delicious.
