I had heard about this place as being a bit of an Ethiopian institution in DC, mimicking the grander institution that is Tomoka coffeehouse in Addis Abeba. I liked it: Laid back, old-fashioned. It is a very male space: old-school Ethiopian guys, gathering in 2s to 5s and holding forth about their country's politics, chatGPT, and all manner of other topics. I was literally the only girl. Tomoka had lots of things on their menu that were not available in reality, like crepes and pancakes. So I had the chechebsa, which was served side by side with scrambled eggs and honey on the side for the former. It was truly delicious. They were not into offering tap water when asked for water in addition to my coffee. Instead one has to buy bottled water. That was perhaps the only manko. The staff were very kind and warm yet chill and not on one's case. A perfectly pleasant spot. I may be back.

I stopped in here to chill before meeting up with a friend later. It wasn't crowded and the lady behind the counter was very nice. I ordered a macchiato and a mysterious Ethiopian pastry from the case. I asked the lady about the pastries but she was unable to communicate to me much, other than that it was made by a lady locally and that it was fried. Well, you had me at fried! SOLD. The coffee and the pastry were both delicious. The lady was alone behind the counter, so I have to imagine that if it were busy, things might take some time. While I relaxed, I was charmed to note that the handsome man sitting across from me was dressed in pink velvet tuxedo pants. Yes. With a pink satin stripe down the legs, exactly. And a matching vest. It's in a little strip mall so there's parking right there and seems fully handicap accessible to me. It's a fine place to cozy up with a friend or sweetheart and pass a pleasant hour or two.

Starbucks got nothing on their coffee. It is an original Ethiopian coffee smells and tastes amazing. One coffee is good for the whole day unless you get addicted. Pastries are awesome as well, they have a perfect texture and minimum sugar goes perfect with the coffee. They also have Ethiopian breakfast which was amazing.

Best baklava EVER!!! There are lots of great aspects to this little place - friendly service, homey vibe, a variety of delicious drinks and sandwiches and pastries (I had the cinnamon latte and egg cheese croissant, both very yummy) - but the best part is the spectacular baklava Definitely will become a loyal patron!

Great little cafe, I loved everything I tried! I got a drip coffee and it was solid, smooth and flavorful. Next time I will definitely try one of their fancy latte drinks. They also sell bags of coffee beans if you'd like to brew your own. The bagel sandwich was generous for the price, and had a nice little kick from the green chiles. And I'm so glad I added a pumpkin muffin to my order at the last minute, it was the perfect fall treat--well-baked, not too sweet, just enough spice. There are spaced out tables inside for indoor dining, or a couple tables outside for outdoor dining weather permitting. Masks are mandatory and there are signs on the floor for socially distancing if there's a line for ordering (there was no line when I was there). I can't wait to go back and try more of the Ethiopian dishes. I'm glad this place has opened!

Wanted to try this place but the man behind the counter refused to wear a mask. I asked if he could, and he said, sorry I don't have one. Completely unacceptable during COVID times.

Delicious ful! I'll be back. Service was courteous and almost all patrons were Ethiopian. Ask for the wifi password--it's not posted. The outside looks a little sketchy but don't judge a book by its cover.
