Updated Review: I made my return visit this evening about 6:00 pm to take the owner up on the offer of a meal on the house and to give them another opportunity. I passed on re-trying the shrimp and grits as they were described as still being just grilled shrimp atop a serving of grits. Shrimp and grits are an absolute favorite of mine and everywhere I go has the shrimp in a sauce with seasoning, peppers, onions, garlic, bacon, etc. and I really wanted to enjoy my food this evening.I ordered the ribs with macaroni and cheese and collard greens. The very nice lady taking my order, I believe is Shirley, was kind enough to include sweet tea and a piece of chocolate cake.Ok so now for my opinion...the ribs were decent once I heated them up. The ribs seemed to be very chilled and not from the 5 minute drive home when my sides remained steaming hot. I enjoyed the ribs which had a pleasant seasoning although they weren't smoked at all, I assume just oven baked. The greens seemed to be canned but the chef did a good job of enhancing them to remove much of the canned taste. The macaroni and cheese was well seasoned and it was made "in house", however it was very difficult to find whole noodles within my serving. The macaroni was very broken up and left me feeling like I was eating just clumps of cheese.The honey lemon ginger iced tea was outstanding! The chocolate cake was not homemade and was just ok.I had to think long and hard about this review because I continue to want to see this business succeed in the neighborhood. I strongly believe that when I go out to eat, the food purchased should be something exceptional. There are many positive things about the service and care apparent when you enter the establishment, but the food is hit or miss for me at this time.

Had the catfish and jerk chicken. Best fried catfish we have had in the DMV. Jerk was real Jamaican jerk. Wet and hot.Asked for what veggies was prepared fresh. Had the Kale. Really good. Based on previous reviews we confirmed that the string beans and yams were canned. We got them anyway. Not bad. Just not anything special.Chef Darryl did a great job. If you are expecting Micheline stars from a neighborhood mom and pop joint at this price point you will have to share with everyone when you find it. Will definitely keep this place in our rotation. Local. Tasty. Cheap. Friendly. What more can you ask for?

My family and I believe in supporting small businesses, especially black businesses. My mom had a Groupon deal that she needed to use, the deal was 4 dinners for $30. My mom and niece ordered the chicken and waffles, my dad roasted chicken collard greens with mash potatoes, and for myself pork ribs mac and cheese, and collard greens. When I finally got home my ribs was good but he mac and cheese was too salty and the collard greens tasted like can collard greens. My dad's biggest complaint was that they only offer one portion of the chicken "thigh" and the greens tasted like can collard greens. Sorry this place is not for us.

One and done! This visit was my first and my last time at this new cafe. My husband and I ordered 2 dinners. Whiting fish with 2 sides and beef ribs with two sides. The ribs were very spicy (barbeque sauce was on the side) and the greens and green beans tasted like can vegetables. Candied yams were too sweet!! 2 pieces of fried Whiting. We were very disappointed in the taste and portion size. Cornbread was an additional 2 dollars. No cash register. Meal was calculated on cell phone.

My aunt told me about this place about a week ago, and Today was my first time trying it out. I must say I was very pleased by the customer service I received. The food was great and I will be definitely be returning to purchase more delicious food as well as some items from their Boutique ! If I could give this place 10 stars I would :) I've shared their menus on both of my social media pages (Facebook and Instagram) we need to get the word out I'm all for supporting our Black Businesses !

I am outdone! I decided to try this place again because it's a black owned business but never will i ever return. I DONT CARE if it's 3 minutes from my house. I decided to call in a to-go order for a catfish sandwich at 1:07pm. I was told by Shirley that the cook had to go to the grocery store to buy the food and won't return until 2! She asked me to come at 2 to pick up my food. I waited a couple more minutes in my house to give them some extra time to prepare. I left with my food 45mins AFTER 2! OH LET ME NOT FORGET. THEY RAN OUT OF BREAD. WHAT'S A SANDWICH WITHOUT BREAD?NEVER AGAIN.

New cafe figured that we'd check it out. It took about 45 minutes for two ordered of chicken tenders and waffles, a curry chicken and a shrimp and grits. I was getting very frustrated waiting and listening to the owner yelling to the back. We were waiting so long that Moses took us on a tour of their salon, and boutique next door. As the orders (carry out) started coming out one at a time my husband checked them. By the time the last order came out she (Shirley) said I'll just bag this one up, you've seen the others. Boy oh boy, should I had I'd checked it. It was an entire container of grits with about 8 baby shrimp. No season, no veggies or anything. Talk about misleading advertising

I would first like to start my review off by saying that this is a black owned business (the only reason I gave it 3 instead of 1). I do not want to another black business to fall to ruins because of yelp. instead, I will like to offer advice from someone who owns 2 businesses and has a degree in Marketing and Communication. I tried this place out and I got waffles, chicken, catfish, yams and greens. Greens were canned, yams were sticky, catfish was not fresh or fried hard enough, waffles....? I dont even know and chicken, not fresh or seasoned. Food is not nasty but it is definitely subpar. It reminded me of when you're at a cookout and you taste the food and you're like "damnnn they put no love into this" This place has 0 passion for food and are jus looking to make money. Advice::::: You should try to obtain fresh meat and produce and use authentic recipes. We live in a time where people genuinely care about their health and the food they eat. Always try to cook and prepare award winning food because that is the ONLY thing people want to eat or purchase. STOP looking for cheaper and easier alternatives!! No one will ever like this restaurant if you dont prepare better food. Secondly, whoever is responsible for responding on this page needs to quit...NOW. You are insensitive to the dissatisfaction of your customers, who keep you business! Contact me for assistance, my rate are affordable..

My husband and I were excited to try this new restaurant after seeing photos; unfortunately, we were more disappointed than anything. The plus is that Tim and Shirley were very cordial and accommodating (that's where the extra star comes from). The down side was the food. We ordered two beef rib platters and three chicken and waffles. The bill was over $70 and it was just not worth it. The ribs needed to be cooked more. They were tough and one (there are only two in the platter) was nothing but fat. I was excited to eat the Mac and cheese but they forgot to put it in my order. I ended up with greens which I did not ask for. The waffles although large were chewy and tasteless . I took a small bite just to try for myself and I could not finish chewing.I understand that the chef was out so maybe this was a bad day, at least I hope. Wish them well because they seem nice and would like to see them succeed.
