Alley lined with lanterns lights your way to a delightful place for a night cap. Lower level was lively but still chilled out -- no thumping music and you can hear your companions Vibes are chill, bartenders are chill.Belgian sour is great if you like bourbonNon-bourbon people will enjoy "getting Alsace-y with everyone". Balanced and light. Not too sweet at all. Don't know anything about the food, just the nighttime vibes (and that too just the lower level) but they were just what we wanted. a place to grab a nightcap and actually sit down without having to scream your order to the bartender and stand around in sticky filth. Would happily come back next time we are in Georgetown.

A gorgeous gem tucked off the main road, down a lil alley. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and snagged a seat at one of the larger high tops upstairs. Super homey interior with a great causal vibe. Ordered the beet salad with a side of fries -- I hear life is all about balance! The beet salad was very, very beet forward. If you're into that, then I highly recommend it! Fries weren't the best I've had but they were hot, fresh, and plentiful. Lots of beers to choose from so you can definitely spend hours here before you've tried them all. The staff isn't the most attentive, so I can't give a full five stars, but I'd definitely recommend stopping in!

We stopped last night just for a couple of beers (btw... best selection in the DMV) and decided to stay for dinner at the bar. I had the sovereign burger and my husband the beet salad and mussels. Delicious! You really can't beat the cozy atmosphere, general chill vibe, knowledgeable bartenders ohhhh and they have legit Italian coffee machines and I had a - def not Italian approved - after dinner cappuccino. Pro tip: Friday is was tough to get a seat. Make a resy or show up at 5:30. Otherwise, don't complain you have to wait.Pro tip 2: that herb butter and bread everybody raves about IS THAT GOOD!

The beer selection cannot be beat, especially if you're looking for Belgian beers. The food is also upscale (?) gastro pub but everything is done to warrant the price. I keep going back every time so travel to DC.

The walkway up to the restaurant is an alley lined with lanterns, so wasn't sure what to expect. Huge selection of beers, wines, and cocktails. Loved they try did half pours of beer so you could try a variety of them. The food was solid as well. Loved the bitterballen appetizer, seasonal liegoise for dessert, and rabbit for entree. Ambiance was nice though loud as the restaurant gets pretty packed. Service was great and friendly.

Went with my wife for valentines day dinner. Not my first time, maybe my 50th time in the almost 10 years since they opened. Me and my wife both got the valentines day special with the beer pairing. We both got scallops for 1st coarse and filet for the second course and then we diverged from each other for dessert. The filet was amazing and it paired with a cantillion that was made with merlot grapes, so not a wine, but a very good belgian tart beer made with grapes. The pairing with the filet was excellent. If you have never been to the sovereign the ambiance is incredible. Feels like Belgium circa 1900. Anyway great place. I can't live with out it.

We had a decent dinner here. The brussels starter had a lot of shaved cheese and pomegrant seeds, was somewhat filling. The beet salad my husband had included a mix of yellow and red beets along with decent spring salad. Coq au gueuze is flavored with a beer sauce that worked out, and served atop mashed potatoes with broccoli and sliced onions. It was hearty and more than I could finish. We did however splurge for a waffle (the one with strawberries and cream), which was alright (not too big, but enough to share if you're not hungry). I did like they offered French cider.Dark interior, somewhat loud, friendly and professional service.

Had a couple of beers here. Had to do up an alley way. Bartender was helpful. Didn't really try a beer I like but the service and ambiance was good.

2nd time in DC & also second time back. This cozy alleyway is a welcoming entrance to what's inside. I know this place is a considered a beer bar and that it is! 1st time we came we were served so many delights but our second time back I asked for something a little different and was met with one of the best spicy mezcal drinks I've ever had. The bartender was so excited to make it too which made me just as enthused I was obsessed !!! Will back next time we're in town

Sovereign is a nice Belgian tavern. It's down the end of an alley so keep an eye out for the sign or you might walk past it! Think high-end pub offerings with a Belgian theme. We had the Infinite Darkness Imperial stout and Brugs Quadrupel (Straffe Hendrik), a fruity, dark-roasted lambic. For food, we started with Bitterballen, a Dutch meat stew formed into a crispy ball with a rich mustard with plenty of horseradish. Rabbit in Kriek is a Belgian classic featuring rabbit roasted in beer with farro, bacon, carrots, and sour cherries. The Sovereign Burger is a pub grub classic with onion jam and gruyere sauce and frites.
