The Backroom

This is the first speakeasy in the city I've been to that feels like a hidden club. I don't need to speak on the history of speakeasies, but some have looked and sounded like clubs -- having live music and such. So I won't spoil the entrance here (though some already have), but as soon as I stepped in this place, I was SHOCKED by how big it was! It was by far the largest speakeasy I had been in. There was a live DJ and there were places to sit -- though by the time I got there they were all occupied. There were two separate bars -- neither had a physical cocktail menu, just QR codes you could scan. Averaging $15, I started off with a gin-based drink that was 10x stronger than I would've expected. Talk about bang for your buck LOL! No seriously, it was tasty, but I had to drink water in order to finish it.That aside, the DJ was playing hits back-to-back... I wish I got his name! The fact that everyone was up and dancing and it got so crowded made it feel even more like a club. I'd go back honestly... but sheesh, it was just so clubby!

This place is really neat. It feels like a well kept secret! You enter through a walk in fridge door and are presented with a well decorated speakeasy with perfect decor. When we went it was nice and quiet and a great place to spend time with a date. It would be a really cool thing to take a first date to. Service was outstanding and we really enjoyed it after the theatre.

Great ambience when you walk through the door and you see this magical place it's chic in the decor. The QR codes for drinks are nice. In fact, I had a drink that I was pleasantly surprised with. The staff was kind and pleasant to work with. I really enjoyed this place. The only reason it got four stars was my sandwich from Capo. I watched a number of videos on TikTok from an Italian deli in New York. I came in with the expectation that my sandwich would be like the one in the TikTok video. It was not as hefty as I expected. The bread, however, was good maybe this is a 5 Star Pl. for Cold sandwiches the meat looked extremely fresh and I can tell they care about the food, the hot sandwiches or just a little bit of a letdown.

We love coming to the Backroom at the end of a night out - it's especially fun to bring friends who have never heard of it so you can surprise them by going through the freezer. Great drinks, good service! Sometimes they'll light shots on fire which is super cool!

The music in this place was really good. They had a freezer you walk into, felt like a hidden club really nice vibe. Drinks here however are very pricey, a shot was $18. Ridiculous prices and when you ask for water they will only give you bottled water to try and up charge you and get a tip. I said no because I am not paying $3 for a bottled water, but the bartender refused to give me water on tap. After I declined he kept shoving me in the back to move from the bar when I wasn't even close to it. Ridiculous I would not tip him to save my life. Rude bartenders but the fellas in the front before you go in were very nice and good energy. Really good music to dance to, but only come if you are ready to spend a lot of money.

I ordered the French 75 (which is gin, lemon juice, and some other ingredients). It is by far one of the best drinks I have ever had. It was insanely refreshing and the bartenders were very nice in noticing I was inebriated but needed a good drink. This drink woke me up, and I was good to go for the night. Shoutout to the bartenders for fixing up a drink that made me feel rejuvenated. It's a little pricey but it taste damn good. The inside is also very cool with music playing and a good amount of seating for the patrons.

Our group decided to get drinks at The Backroom after dinner and it did not disappoint! Upon arrival, we walked into Capo Italian Deli. We were confused by the establishment and had no idea we were about to enter a speakeasy. The bouncer at the door was super friendly and led as through a freezer door. We were speechless by the ambiance. The bar had sleek leather couches with plenty of seating against the wall. There was also a huge chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The vibe was definitely sexy and intimate. The bar had just the right amount of people. However, it did start to get busier closer to midnight. They had a DJ playing a bunch of throwback hits which was also nice. As for the cocktails, they were delicious and strong (major plus). The drinks ranged between $9-14 which is pretty decent for an establishment like this. It was entertaining to watch the bartender make our drinks as he put so much enthusiasm into it. Backroom was a nice get away from the regular old Dupont night scene. It definitely felt like we were in a new city!

Our group of 7 stopped in or should I say attempted to stop in after dinner. I saw this place online on a list of speakeasies in DC. Excited, I told everyone my experience at other speakeasies and we all looked forward to this one. Big disappointment. This is not what I would consider a speakeasy. After showing our ID and entering, it was wall to wall people. Truly felt like the room was filled way beyond capacity. This was definitely a night club scene. A millennial club scene. We squeezed our way to the restrooms and there was of course a long line of clubbers waiting impatiently. A couple of people used the restroom and we squeezed our way right out of there. If you are looking for the chill, grown & sexy speakeasy vibe, this is not the place. I can't comment on whether there were crafted cocktails because we got out of there.

The service, the quality of cocktails, the ambiance...it is unmatched. Rohit and his team have created an amazing place worthy of all 5 stars...wish I could give it more. Many people may not realize it is tucked in the back of Capo Deli. Just look for the red light over the door inside to begin or end your evening in style.
