Thai Chef - Rockville

Thai Chef is in our neighborhood and is one of our go-to places. I've reviewed it before, but feel compelled to again. It's really good. Last night, my partner and I ordered a soup each, one order of Pad Thai with tofu and a chicken satay. Everything was delicious and after the soups (each containing a healthy portion of vegis or tofu) and most of the satay, took much of the Pad Thai home. The restaurant is welcoming, the servers friendly and attentive. The food is great.

Sunday 10/13/2024I remember coming across this spot a couple of months ago when I saw an instagram post/story about the best Thai in MD so I had to find out for myself.I made an uber eats order and got the D.U.I with chicken (drunken noodles) $17, chicken satay $10, panang curry with chicken $17, and the rocket shrimp $10.- The D.U.I was slightly above average with a nice spicy kick but it wasn't anything special. Also $17 for the portion you get is pretty expensive.- The panang curry was easily my favorite item and was pretty good when it comes to flavor & taste.- The chicken satay came with 4 chicken skewers and 2 sauces: peanut sauce & a sweet sauce. The chicken satay looked a lot better in the pics when compared to what I got. They were alright but I've definitely had better.- The rocket shrimp looked significantly better & bigger in the pictures compared to what I ended up getting. They came with 4 shrimp and a side of a sweet (& slight sour) sauce for them. I know shrimp can be expensive but $2.50 per shrimp "rockets" isn't worth it to me.Overall, this was an okay Thai food experience but it didn't really do much for me in terms of my expectations regarding taste, look, and flavor of the food (the panang curry was good tho).

Read the reviews on- line & decided to give them a try.First, the decor was cute , colorful & and playful.There was only 1 young lady taking orders on her tablet. However, she was fast & efficient.The food came out fast & was hot. We ordered 3 dishes. My husband ordered the Ka pow with chicken it was good & flavorful.I had the massamam curry & added string beans. It was delicious. We ordered a crabmeat fried rice. Like all the other reviews stated, it lacked flavor & spice. It would help if they seasoned the lump crab meat first added it to the rice & added more flavor. I wouldn't order thos again. The service was good. They definitely helped each other. The guys cleaning the tables was fast, and you never saw a dirty table.Would definitely return & try other dishes & a different rice.

Fun restaurant, lovely for a night out! The menu has lots of Thai street food inspired options. I really enjoyed my duck noodle soup, which was very flavorful! Also have a nice cocktail menu--the rye old fashioned was delicious! My partner tried the basil fried rice and did find it a bit bland, but otherwise a good dinner.

This is the most darling by restaurant I have ever eaten at! It was so bright, colorful, and fun! I loved it so much!The food was incredible! We tried the Thai beef salad, the beef was incredible! The green curry was amazing! I loved this restaurant so much, great service too!

I absolutely adore this place! Every time I'm in town craving Thai food this is a place to go! The flavors and all their food is fabulous. They have a wide variety menu. And their prices are not too bad. And the set up in here is absolutely too cute to miss! However, they lost one star just due to service. Every time I come in here, I barely get greeted by a smile. I'm always rushed. And I don't feel too welcomed.

Some of the best curry in the area. Prices are fair. Food is good. Service is very friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating. Happy Hour. Accessible. Right on the Town Square.

My 3-year-old's review: "This is a colorful restaurant. We should go here again."In addition to the lively and indeed colorful decor, we were very satisfied with our dining experience.We ordered 7 dishes to share family-style and they all came out lightning fast--in what couldn't have been more than 10-15 minutes.+ Koki Calamari ($10)+ Grilled Pork Shoulder ($11)+ Chicken Satay ($9)+ Crabmeat Fried Rice ($18)+ Pad Si-Yu with pork ($16)+ Pad Thai with shrimp ($19)+ Green Curry ($16)Although no dish particularly stood out, as a whole, the food was good and satisfied our Thai craving. One note is that the pad thai has a stronger tamarind flavor than I'm used to.Reservations can be made over the phone for parties of 5 or more and the restaurant is located conveniently in Rockville Town Center.

We went to dinner on a Tuesday and were able to be sat outside. We got Thai teas, which was a good starter. The rocket shrimp - our appetizer - was EH. Just taste like shrimp wrapped in egg roll wrapper and the sauce is just the Thai sweet chili sauce. The pad Thai was good and something i would get again. The Chinese sausage fried rice - like others said was bland and i didn't realize it was going to be so sweet. They tasted like maple sausages, but this may be standard for those kinds of sausage. The service was just okay, it seemed like there was only one server caring for everyone.The other thing I would add is the 20% sub charge is a little crazy. I wouldn't expect to be put on a bill for 2 people. I've seen it as a standard when it's 5 or more people in parties.

The catfish dry curry had lots of flavor and cooked well with good texture. The Panang Curry had a weird taste to it, did not taste like any other I've had. Didn't taste much coconut nor sweetness. The wings were seasoned well, didn't even need the sauce. Just wish the skin had more crisp to it.The place was designed well with an interesting decor and the staff were very friendly and attentive.
