Takumi is a popular sushi spot in the Falls church area and is slightly overhyped in my opinion. The sushi here is good but not anything spectacular especially given the price. I ordered the sushi tasting 3 which comes with 9 pieces of nigiri for $30. I would say that ordering the one with toppings is worth it as it does add a good twist. This place is small inside and mostly has 2 tops so keep this in mind when trying to come here in a bigger group! It seems that they take a lot of to go orders so don't be scared if you see a long line out the door (there is also no place to wait inside which attributes to the line being out the door).

I chose to go here since people had talked about how it's pretty good quality sushi for a decent price. I had really high hopes. Walking into the restaurant, it smelled very fishy in a bad way. I understand that there's fish but I know what fresh fish smells like vs borderline rotting fish. I ordered the salmon and avocado as well as the spicy salmon. My partner got the crunchy eel roll, soft shell crab roll, and salmon and avocado. Service was very slow and the place was pretty small so it's difficult to get a seat. Overall, the sushi was disappointing because the rice was mushy and lacked seasoning. Fish portion sizes were pretty small. I tried a bit of the crab roll and the crab was very fishy tasting. The other fish tasted fine though.

Honestly, I was not expecting much as it seems like a small local sushi shop but Takumi exceeded my expectations! The calamari pasta was super unique and yummy--I see why it's a popular dish. I also got the special sushi set, spicy scallop roll, and the negitoro roll. The fish were all super fresh and prepared so well. There were no fishy smell or taste. The server was super friendly and prompt as well. She had the type of smile that makes others smile. I will definitely be back for more!

Takumi is a cute little shop situated on the corner. The interior is super fun with art fixtures and little fish lanterns hanging from the walls and ceilings.The staff was super friendly and helped us out a ton during our visit.Unfortunately, the sushi was pretty average, and a few of the pieces we got noticeably lacked quality. The tuna did not taste that fresh, and our fatty tuna with scallion roll didn't really have much flavor other than the scallion and seaweed.

Cute little restaurant with mind servers and amazing sushi. I wish i could come more often.

Decided to order again for lunch as this place is super close to my house. As noted in my earlier review, I wanted the rice on the outside of my rolls and figured it wouldn't be an issue to ask in the future. So this time I asked that the spicy tuna roll come with rice on the outside. They wanted to charge me to add rice. Rice is so inexpensive especially for a restaurant that makes rice in bulk. That's a bit ridiculous to me. The lunch special options are also very limited as to what you can order. Most are just trust the chef and the pick your own rolls you're limited to ones $7.5 or less. They don't allow you to pay the difference to have that roll included. The woman on the phone was SO RUDE. I probably won't come here again.

Takumi is an excellent place if you're craving not just sashimi but creative and good flavors in nice rolls. It's not necessarily the basic plain rolls that you're used to at take out sushi joints -- they're pretty solid quality wise but also has enough of a twist where you won't be bored. The ambiance is lovely where you're in a small dining space. Parking is general available and this is a good small town date spot.

I was really excited about this restaurant based on the incredible reviews it had already, but it unfortunately left much to be desired. It was a very mediocre sushi experience. I didn't feel that the sashimi platter that we got was fresh, especially since the tuna that we had was fishy. I unfortunately wouldn't come back here because I think you can definitely find better quality sushi for a better price.

Reservations highly recommended since the place is small. A friend introduced us to this small gem. We sat at the sushi bar and tried a variety of appetizers before a sushi tasting. Perfect way to enjoy the food here.Each dish was nicely plated and the flavors were delicious. The crunch in the yellowtail dish was a nice surprise. Scallops were so refreshing, the cucumber and seaweed underneath with a slight tangy sauce.The sushi tasting was delicious too. Toppings made each piece even more enjoyable.
