Taj of India

Very tasty Indian food!I've driven by this place so many times and never thought to stop because it always looked dead. Don't let that fool you. Upon closer inspection, the building is well maintained and the inside is nicely decorated and clean. While there were only a few patrons inside, it'll be a place I come back to time and time again. The food was full of flavor, well portioned, and you could tell they care about their customers.

Instead of the coconut fish curry I love here, I was served dal with fish in it. Awful!! The kofta were not the same either, tho the sauce was.Other 2 dishes were the same as before and good.But if they have ruined two of my favorite items here, I likely won't return.

Excellent Indian food on Route 1 near the Fort Hunt Road intersection. We called ahead to confirm a larger party, and were able to be accommodated with an hour notice. They suggested we book at least 1 day in advance, but at the time we arrived there was plenty of space.With a large group we sampled lots of items. From the appetizers, we really liked the Gobi Lasooni (spicy cauliflower) and Tamarind Chicken Wings. The vegetable samosas were solid. For entrees the Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala were both delicious (and looked very similar). The Lamb Saag and Lamb Roganjosh were both good, but were finished only after the aforementioned chicken. And of course no meal is complete without naan bread. I am strongly partial to the Garlic Naan, which was excellent here, but we tried the mint paratha, onion kulcha, and paneer kulcha. Both of the kulcha were well flavored, the cheese or onions contributing primarily, and can be eaten on their own. They do make for a different and tasty pairing when dipping in sauces (like the butter chicken sauce). I would recommend trying these out.

I love Indian food. LOVE IT.Taj of India wasn't it tho. Ive never tried this place before but it got amazing reviews, so I ordered delivery. I got the things that really can't be borked: saag paneer, and lamb roganjosh. I also got popadum, mulligatwany soup and some mixed pickles.First off, the saag. I've never had saag paneer that was so soupy and thin. At first I thought they'd made a mistake, but nope. There's paneer in there. It's just that it's basically spinach soup with chunks of paneer. It was a nice soup? Coconut milk with green color soup? It was not saag paneer.The lamb roganjosh was also super soupy. And had about 1/2 inch thick layer of fat on top. Not really worth eating, honestly.The mulligatwany soup was super watery and didn't have much flavor.On the plus side, the popadum was delicious! And the pickle was tasty. 1 star I spent $70 for delivery and all I ate was popadum and pickle. I don't think I'll order again.

We sat down and ate at Taj of India and had a great experience. It was our first time eating Indian with our children and the waiter helped us choose items that they would like. Service was great and the waiter was very attentive and filled our waters often. We e joyed the food we ate. We ordered mild and there was no heat in the food-fyiWe ordered-Appetizers-Gobi lasooni-amazing! The restaurant was on the smaller side but could easily seat 20 or more people and can accommodate larger groups of 6+ at a table.

I was here to grab some dinner after playing pickleball for hours. I ordered gobi lasooni (deep fried cauliflower and mixed in with garlic red sauce) for appetizer. This is one of the most common appetizers in Indian. If you ever go to India, you will see this appetizer served everywhere including the street carts. It's most commonly called as Gobi Manchurian, but Gobi lasooni tastes pretty similar. The cauliflower was nice and crispy from the outside. Trust me you don't want to eat soggy cauliflower. Garlic sauce was delicious. Had enough heat to go perfectly well with a nice cold kingfisher beer. For entree, I wanted some rice dish. So I ordered goat biryani medium spicy. This one packed some extra heat. If you don't like spicy food , I recommend ordering mild version. However, it tasted pretty good. Goat was very flavorful and tender. I wish they served it with half boiled egg. Nevertheless, it was worth it. I had so much for leftovers as well. Price is in the same range as other Indian restaurants. Biryanis cost about $20. Plenty of parking space. Service was great too!

The food took some time to come out...meanwhile some employees in the kitchen insulted and yelled at each other lol. The portion was smaller than expected (and for the price), but I was starving so I finished it all with exception of one piece of chicken. It was good once it was combined with sauces and veggies.

Great Indian cuisine, the chicken jalfrezi was spicy and delicious. I also tired to the chicken saag and the spinach was well cooked. Also the garlic naan was good. I had my order delivered and they packaged all the food well so it didn't spill.

Food bad service bad so rude to customers. Sorry but never recommend this for anyone.

Food is good but portions are on the small side and too expensive so I won't be back unfortunately. Drinks are made strong and the decor/restaurant is clean and nice
