Taco City DC

Excellent small business with fresh food and excellent service. I have been coming her for about 4-5 years and cant believe I never reviewed them!They have great happy hour specials and yummy food. They recently redecorated and painted inside and it reminds me of the movie Encanto. The space is small but bright and lively with really cool paintings and decorations. I met the owner Juan who gave me the history of how it came to be. Come and see him to hear for yourself!I usually stick to the tacos but they have plenty of great food options and drinks to go along with it. Def come check them out!

Reliable and delicious tacos and margaritas - check out their happy hour (ends at 6)!I try a few different types of tacos each time and they are all substantial and flavorful; I haven't disliked a filling yet. The drinks are strong but balanced, with several customization options for the margaritas (tequila quality and flavorings). Their chips and salsa are heavenly, and their tortas are also a good option if you're not feeling tacos.Service is friendly but can be a little slow at times, although they are always worth the wait.

It's hard to find good tacos in DC. This place is it! I went to the Navy Yard location. I've been here 3 years, tried countless taco spots, and THIS (Taco City DC Navy Yard) is only one of three places I'd recommend thus far.Didn't make a reservation, though you might need to on busy nights. It's a small, casual spot that's decorated nicely. First, corn tortillas - yes. Delicious, complex flavors - yes! Yummy margaritas and caiparinhas - yes. Kind staff - Yes. Happy Hour - Yes. But wait, there's more. You can order drinks to go! The second time I was there, I was just picking up food to eat at home. When I arrived, I added 2 caiparinhas to go to my order and went home and had a great yummy dinner with delicious bar-made drinks. Doesn't get any better than that. Tacos =cauliflower tacos - delicious!Polvo (octopus) - delicious!Shrimp - yummy!!Steak - my partner said it was great, one of the best steak tacos he's had in DC (and he's been here 4 years)Chicken - good, but I liked the other tacos better. Chicken Quesadilla - not my fav. I like cheese and onions and peppers in my quesadilla. Not sure if this is traditional to have these things in your quesadilla, but that's my personal preference. Taco City surprises me every time -- in a good way! Outstanding service, delicious tacos, guacamole, chips, and salsa, and plentiful seating both inside and out (in the warm months, the high-top tables are great!).It's cozy and clean inside. Does seem to get busy during the noon lunch hour, so come for an early or late lunch if you want to be in and out. Either way, you'll leave happy!

These tacos were amazing. The meat was so tender and full of flavor, and the toppings were fresh and well paired. The salsa added a nice little kick, making the whole thing even better. The service was great, and I left feeling so happy with my meal.

Ugh. I just hate updating reviews to lower a previous five-star rating, but it's warranted. In the last few months, we've dined at Taco City and it's gone downhill. Here's why.1) Wait time: Both times we walked into an almost empty restaurant and it took a very long time to be welcomed, water brought, food ordered, etc. Times are tough in the restaurant industry, but since we were the only ones there, it seemed odd.2) Food: Literally everything we ordered was so bad from the tacos to the chips and salsa. The carne asada was very tough and half couldn't be eaten. It tasted like literally nothing so we had to heavy up on the soggy onions and avocado dip they brought with it.I want to love Taco City and will come back to give them another chance, but our previous two recent experiences make us hesitant.

Where do I begin! We were welcomed in by the staff as we approached the bar area. After a review of the menu I started with a yummy pineapple margarita. I like sweet drinks and this definitely satisfied my sweet tooth. This is my first visit here so I opted to try 3 different tacos. I ordered shrimp, steak, and fish. The fish tacos was my favorite, followed by the shrimp taco. The meat inside the steak taco was a little too tough for my preference.

The DC taco scene is seriously disappointing, and I was really rooting for this place to be good. I came for lunch, just takeout since I work up the street, and yes, everything just got bagged and the horchata was delightful. But the tacos themselves just weren't good. Edible, sure. But if you're going to charge me $5 for a taco, you have to make it good. Plus side, the restaurant is pretty.

Portions are small and didn't have many things from the menu. Drinks were just ok. Service was good.

I came in here for a quick-to-go lunch as I was working in the city. Since it was Tuesday, I decided on Tacos (Taco Tuesday). They have a 3-taco deal and I also got a Hibiscus drink, which was delicious. I got their shrimp taco, Al pastor taco, and mahi mahi taco. The shrimp and Al pastor tacos were delicious and flavorful; however the mahi mahi taco lacked flavor and the fish was tough and not flaky, which is what I expected. Service was great I was greeted when I came in and my order was taken right away. It took longer than I expected to get my food and drink. Honestly, I think the waitress forgot I ordered a drink because I had to remind her when my food was ready. The establishment is small inside; however, they do offer outside seating.
