Can not say enough good things about this place! I indulged in the freshest nigiri. Salmon, yellowtail, amber jack... I could not get enough. Chef Boo was amazing making suggestions based on what I liked. I felt very taken care of the whole time I was there. It's a smaller restaurant but provides just the right atmosphere to make it feel comfy. I would recommend this place over and over again.

Mediocre food in small portions at a premium price. It's one of those places where you spend $100 and get McDonald's afterwards. The servers delivered little bowls of miso soup and charged us $4 for them. The $3 hot tea had an oily film on the surface. The sushi and nigiri were underwhelming. If you want good sushi, there are plenty of other options in northern Virginia I'd rather go to instead.

3 stars is the best I can give. 1. Reservation: not necessary, walk in is good enough. 2. Service: seems nice but very inattentive. For example, my son had to ask for 3 times and finally got his plain water after 35 minutes since our seating. No water if you got tea. like why? it is not like we ordered some fancy bottled water, why ration? 3. Food: barely 2.5-3 stars. None of them tasted that good, It was totally edible and I did get full, but any food can do these. Especially when you factor in the price, it is very bad. If they were cheaper, I would have been okay with it, cause it is cheap and I should've known better but for 20-30$ dishes, I expect better. 4. Drinks: limited choiceIf you want basic beer and maybe sake, they have some choice, but if you want anything fancier, they won't have it. All in all, I am beyond disappointed, I can here with high hopes. I won't be coming here again. Kizuna, Gyu shige even right across the street Wren has way better taste.

Service was great! Very attentive first thing we walked in and always updated us the wait time.I just got a salmon sushi roll because the pricing is a bit pricey than usual. It's really good, fresh sushi! With a lot of sushi spots in the DMV area, I wouldn't say this is my go-to spot.

3.5 stars. Good but very pricey. Had a quick dinner here but shared the taste of umi and the takoyaki appetizer. That was enough for two people but you don't leave feeling super stuffed. I like how they've thought of the little details. For instance mixing imitation crab with the rice. Which is tasty. Or super fresh uni. Or having the fish pressed into a little heart. Like having a cell phone holder for the "window seats" but again, for the food quality, and amount, it is a little pricey. I get the location and food costs. The food was fresh, well prepared, and I would dine here again but not regularly .

Good sushi, conveniently located right next to McLean metro station (parking is hard to find). The sushi was a bit pricey, wish there were more vegetarian options, and sadly no outdoor seating. The indoor seating is a bit cozy, no space for strollers or large groups. Hubby and I ordered a feast! Hubby got the $23 Roll Combo with 3 sushi rolls - California, Salmon & Avocado, and Tuna & Avocado. He enjoyed the sushi rice and all 3 rolls. The Umi Tempura with crispy fritters of sweet potato, carrots, onions, and asparagus was fun to try, but quite dense with veggies heavily coated in thick tempura batter. After a few pieces, I started getting full. Next time, I would skip it to save my room for the sushi. The vegetarian Yam Tempura roll with the cream cheese didn't quite blend well. I would opt for the roll without the cream cheese. The Seaweed Salad was tasty and a good portion. The sparkling Choya plum wine was very sweet and tastes like Moscato wine.I wish there were more vegetarian rolls and dishes available, beyond the standard avocado and cucumber and the Yam Tempura roll. As another Yelper mentioned, it's pricey. We spent $90 on our meal and be prepared to spend $40- $50 per person especially if you order a drink and 2-3 rolls or apps.

First time dining at sushi umi and had a great experience! We had to get their sashimi sampler like many of the other diners there. It was $78 for 9 different samples of chef's choice cuts. Besides the sweet shrimp(served with uni), fried mackerel and fried wagyu, each type had 3 slices. I think that is a reasonable price for what you're getting. There's plenty of rice with the sampler too. The chirashi deluxe was $48. Larger portion : probably 15 pieces plus uni. I only wish there was more seaweed to pair. Between 2 girls, we couldn't finish it and brought home a carefully packaged to-go container. The absolute can't miss item: their house wasabi. It is less overpowering than normal wasabi so you put more on your fish. They give you regular wasabi to compare because they know which is superior. Their house soy sauce is less salty and more umami too.The service was excellent. The sweet lady saw that the sun was in my sister's eye and got on top of the chair to help pull the shades down. All the servers were super attentive. Ambiance is bright and casual. They encourage solo dining too with the phone stands provided. Like many others have said, parking is tough. Limited free street parking. We found parking on S. Dartford Drive. Valet available at the hotel around the corner.

Parking is really limited here. My friend and I stopped by for dinner yesterday at around 5:30 PM and all ~10 spots were taken so we had to park a few blocks away. Not the most convenient for sure. But at least it is metro accessible! The kiss and ride is right outside of the restaurant. Service was friendly and we always had enough water. But the pricing here is very expensive, which is typical Tysons. Unless you're only eating a single maki roll (which is less than a snack), you'll probably be paying over 25 for an entree. INFINITE TRIO DON - 37Each rice bowl comes with 4 pieces of tuna, 4 pieces of salmon and 4 pieces of yellowtail. I don't normally like tuna too much but it's quite fresh here. Yellowtail here was good but not the best. Salmon is always delicious. The sushi rice was a bit too dry as it easily fell apart. Overall, it's good but kind of steep to be paying so much for a casual dinner. The bowl they served it in was interesting. Never seen anything of that shape or color, lol.Sushi Umi is definitely not a casual meal. Be prepared to shell out 40-50 dollars per person after tax and tip.

The environment and the food is very good. It is also pretty expensive. The waitress is extremely friendly and fun. Overall, restaurant wises, I love this place. However, it is quite confusing for the first-time visitor to find the parking place. Here are your two options: 1. Valet parking at the hotel where the restaurant is located. It will cost you $10 plus tips; 2. Public parking at the apartment complex right across the street, and it will cost you about $6 for 2 hours. The lunch menu and the dinner menu is a bit different. I was there for dinner in the weekend, the taste of umi is $79.00.We ordered the Chirashi Deluxe ($48), Taste of Umi ($79)Sake Don ($37). All really really good.

This is a new, upscale Japanese place that opened up. Don't let the exterior fool you - it's nicer inside than you would expect and great ambiance. There isn't really parking here so you will have to park on the street. For the food -- I ordered take out the first time here and thought it was a 5/5. When I dined in a second time, I would say the food is a 4. Their dinner menu is only 2 pages and the dishes were more on the expensive side. I asked for their special rolls paper menu which is more similar to the regular sushi rolls you find at restaurants.I ordered the Dragon Roll again which was good - unconventional from other Dragon rolls since it has salmon and tuna inside in addition to eel/avocado. There is also asparagus which I wasn't the biggest fan of. My friend got the fried eel and cream cheese (Vegas roll) which she enjoyed. I would recommend if you don't like raw fish, since she doesn't normally have sushi.
