2.6stars Just got pickup. The nigiri lacked flavor and freshness. The Salomon roll was better but just ok, the rice was prepared well. Nice staff when I picked it up.

This place got my attention as they serve Fugu if you reserve ahead of time. I was curious of the quality of the fish. There were two chefs working (one was also the server). The 10 piece Chef's Nigiri was $55. The food took quite a while to come out and the chef/server never explained what I got. The quality of the Sake was kind of lackluster as well. I only give this place 3 stars because I'm curious of their Fugu dinner which I plan on getting someday. If not for this, I'd say 2 stars. I added an additional star for cool factor having Fugu. The atmosphere is very basic as well.

My friend and I went on a Thursday night and the restaurant was completely empty, so it was a quiet and more personal setting. The server was incredibly nice. We got the green tea and yuzu cocktails, which were both very light and refreshing. We ordered the Deluxe assorted sushi and the Gakyu Chirashi bowl. The sushi rolls were very typical of any other sushi restaurant, and the Chirashi bowl had some good toppings that paired with the rice. Overall, the food was decent, but the fish was not that fresh. Surprisingly, the ginger was incredibly light and refreshing- I typically don't like to eat ginger at sushi restaurants because it can be too potent, so this came as a surprise to me.

we came to DC to celebrate our anniversary. The original place that we were going to ended up closing down so we found this one and we couldn't be happier with this one sushi restaurant is hands-down, our favorite one even in the ones that we eat in Miami it's only the sushi chef and so please keep in mind that you will have to wait a little bit of time compared to other restaurants but the service is amazing. It's a very intimate restaurant because there was only two employees thereand the freshest fish I've ever had. extensive list of sake. we definitely recommend this place and we'll be here whenever we come back to DC.

Over priced low quality Costco fridge sushi. They are also so shorted staffed that the waiter became a sushi chef during the night.

Just came back from Japan and have walked past this place multiple times over the years and always wanted to try. I got the okimari prix fixe menu and the sushi was very good. Fish was served at the right temperature and rice had a good texture. Chef is from Japan and the service was very attentive. I would definitely recommend anyone who needs their sushi fix to come here.

We went for a Saturday date night and they required a deposit. I expected something grand due to this. I will say ...The service at the restaurant was extremely accommodating. Our server was also one of the sushi chefs. A 3 because the sushi portions were very small and the ambiance was not good for a date night. I imagine it may be very busy during the week. It looks like they have some specialty items on the menu that are off the beaten path of traditional American sushi.

Came here for lunch yesterday with a friend. I was shocked by the unbalance of the high price and low quality. This friend of mine and I celebrate our b-days with lunch at our favorite Japanese restaurant Sushi T. every time for the past decade but for some reasons, my friend could not make a reservation at our usual place this time. So we came here to Gakyu instead. I had Gakyu Chirashi with hefty $42 price tag, only to be disappointed, by the quality and and by the quantity of fish. The separately served rice had colorful toppings but nothing speccial. No wonder the place was less than half full..Can't wait to go to our usual place again.
