I came here with a couple friends for dinner this past Saturday. Somehow, we were the only ones at the restaurant at around 6 PM which surprised us. We ordered and got our food relatively quickly.SEVEN PIECE NIGIRI + MAKI ROLL - 37The three of us got this nigiri and maki roll set. The seven nigiris that we got (I think) were tuna, flounder, salmon, yellowtail, seared striped jack, eel, and another seared fish (red snapper?). It also came with a tamago, and four pieces each of salmon and tuna maki. The sushi rice here was so good, with the perfect vinegar and rice ratio, which made the perfect texture. The fish quality here was amazing, leaving me wanting more of everything I sampled. The tuna here was amazing, and one of the very few places where I enjoyed the tuna more than the salmon. Honestly, out of all the nigiri, the salmon was actually the most underwhelming, which is a first. The two seared pieces in the end had a slight smoky flavor that was amazing. Lowkey, I wish I got the nine piece nigiri + maki roll set for $44 because the fish quality was so good.CHUTORO NIGIRI (2) - 18This was quite good but I'm not sure if it was worth the price. It was fattier than the normal tuna and very fresh, but it was leaner compared to other chutoro I've had. Overall, good to try!Sushi Capitol blew me away with its high quality fish and well-prepared sushi rice. It's definitely my go-to sushi restaurant to take friends to now for a more traditional experience. Pricing is affordable, and I love how lowkey and unassuming the restaurant is. I'll 100% be back.

While I still order here from time to time, the quality just isn't what it used to be. I know the business has gone through a lot of changes since Covid, but it's been a couple of years since I've ordered from here and felt as excited and satisfied with the food as I used to. I'm not sure if perhaps pick up and delivery creates any variation, but I used to be able to pick up and get the same quality and consistency every time so it's hard to pinpoint what has changed.Overall, it's still solid sushi but the way I used to fiend and crave for its unique level of quality has waned and I've found a few other places near by that are on par. But I still do wish them the best and will still give them a shot every few months for old times sake!

Definitely check this place out for Omakase! Came here for lunch omakase and it was sooooo good! $100 pp chawanmushi, an appetizer dish, about 8ish sushi pieces, hand roll and miso soup and dessert. The omakase had a variety of fresh fish and all the traditional stuff you'd expect to have with hints of variation to bring out the fish. My fave was the hotate with salt and lemon. Best way to serve hotate! They take call in reservations for omakase only and then walk in for ala carte menu. A very calm and quaint sushi spot tucked away on a busy street.

It's been a while since dining here. This place used to be the go-to date night for sushi until we moved a bit further away. The restaurant still had its dim-lit appearance from outside that makes it look closed. Also, we were a bit surprised we were the only customers during peak dinner time on a Saturday but make no mistake, this is one of the best value omakases in DC. For $100, you get about 20 pieces of sushi from tuna to yellowtail, shellfish, white fish, uni, handrolls, you name it. The pace was a bit fast, perhaps because we were the only customers but the quality of fish was amazing. Lastly, they don't have a bar so bring your own beverage! I'm not kidding. For no extra charge, you can bring your own liquor of choice. If you forget, there's an awfully convenient liquor store next door.

I always recommend this spot whenever someone wants great sushi in DC! I went for the first time 7 years ago & was very impressed from service to freshness of each piece of fish. I recently went back on a work trip and stopped in for lunch. It still wasn't a disappointment AT ALL. Service was still great and the quality of fish was excellent.

I came here for my birthday dinner with my wife and we had omakase ($100 per person). The interior design is great, unique, and pleasantly quiet. Great service. It's a BYOB restaurant, and there is a liquor shop next door. Great appetizer, nigiri, miso-soup, maki-sushi, and matcha-ice cream. It's definitely one of the top-notch qualities in terms of food (literally everything). We felt this price is definitely worth (unlike other much more pricy restaurants in DC), so we would love to return. It's a five star restaurant.

Been a while since I've stopped in for the omakase - it's a solid entry level omakase, priced fairly at $100 for around 20 bites. Quality of fish varies, it's mostly more common fish given the price (most expensive bites were otoro and hokkaido uni). Shari held shape, but lacked flavor for me and wasn't served at optimal temperature. Neta is sliced ok, maybe too thick overall, some of the nigiri bites weren't properly balanced. Otoro was sliced poorly with lots of sinew/chew. Truffle salt on the scallop way overpowers the bite. Hamachi, Kanpachi, Unagi, Aji (surprisingly good) and of course uni were my favorite courses. You begin the meal with some small otsumami and there's also a miso soup course, tamago, toro hand roll, and store bought green tea ice cream to finish to mix things up. Call to make a reservation, we were the only diners on a Wednesday for our meal. The restaurant is BYOB with no corkage - there's a bottle shop next door too.

The very smallest 8 piece (2 were tamago) $30 charashi bowl I've ever seen in my life, more like a $9 sashimi appetizer. NEVER AGAIN Sushi Capital!!!

Great sushi for a very reasonable price! It's an intimate ambiance, nothing fancy. Sushi chefs know what they are doing. Would come back here any day :)

Trying to pass off trash fish as legit sushi at exorbitant prices. We grew up on the West Coast so know what sushi is supposed to be like, and this place has got to be the worst sushi restaurant I've ever been to. The rolls were about the diameter of a nickel and the fish inside was just little bits and pieces. The first red flag that should have sent us out of the restaurant as soon as we got there was that everything was "spicy" which is pretty much the way for them to hide the quality of bad fish. And did I mention that the service totally sucked? If you live in the DC area and are Jonesing for some actual good sushi at not crazy prices with quality fish, I suggest you check out rainbow sushi in Germantown.
