Service and ambiance is top notch here!We went in the evening and it was busyWe all got the Taste of the South, which was a great option for our first time, since we've never been and were interested because of the Netflix Show Culinary Class Wars where Chef Edward Lee was a contestant on!The meal was fantastic! Southern style with korean twists!

I surprisingly enjoyed Succotash! My sister and I already had plans to stop by an art exhibit and planned to grab food at any available restaurant afterwards. Succotash happened to be the closest spot so we walked in and waited about 10mins before we were seated. We sat upstairs in a darker area which seemed more like a little bar. There was a single restroom nearby. Our server, Leo, really helped make our experience a great one. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and honest with his recommendations. We ordered French 75 to start, they were good and pretty strong. Then we followed up with oysters and shrimp as appetizers. Both were very good and each had a kick to them. The oysters were cooked and present on small pieces of toast. The battered shrimp came out similar to fried calamari. For our entrees, we went with catfish and garlic smashed potatoes, and dirty chicken with old bay macaroni and cheese. The fish was nice but I requested a side of hot sauce for added flavor. Everything was so tasty. The smash ex potatoes were amazing. And dirty chicken had Asian spices and is doubled fried. We ended up adding dessert, going with the banana pudding and hummingbird. Delicious!!! The hummingbird cake was huge and I couldn't eat it all. I'm so happy it all worked out and even happier with the exceptional service Leo gave. I'd definitely recommend this spot. This restaurant has more of a southern cuisine but they do bring the flavor. The inside is nicely decorated and gets great lighting. However, we sat in a very dimly lit area of the restaurant.

This was the second time that I've been to the Succotash Prime location. Both times I expected just a little bit more. It's not the service. Our servers were impeccable. It's just that I wanted just a little more oomph from the food. Maybe just a tad more seasoning. My dining partner and I got the brunch for the table (which was underpriced - words I never thought I'd say): deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, citrus salad, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and pecan sticky buns. We also got a side of the greens and kimchi and an order of corn bread Everything was fine, but I wanted there to be a pop of flavor in my mouth and there really wasn't with the exception of the citrus salad. We had a child with us who ordered macaroni and cheese and she LOVES macaroni and cheese, but she didn't finish it. She really liked the ice cream, though. So, good but not great, but great potential is there.

Went to Succotash and overall was a great time, staff is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing and upscale. It felt like an elegant southern comfort restaurant. We got the taste of the south which I would recommend if you have never been to try it all but the chicken and waffles were underwhelming, i personally did not like the shrimp and grits (was a bit too soupy and under flavored) but the steak was amazing. The cornbread was the best I have ever had but truly the star of it all were the chicken wings and old bay Mac and cheese, so unbelievably good!

The happy hour here is phenomenal! They have a great selection of food and drink items. The country ham and biscuits were to die for. The biscuits tasted like they were made from scratch. The crispy Korean cauliflower was so good as well. The portion sizes were large enough to share with two people. I got 4 happy hour glasses of wine and two happy hour food items for $36!The ambiance was very relaxing. The lights were dim and the music wasn't too loud. If you want a table, I would definitely make a reservation. The bar gets crowded pretty fast too. I would suggest getting there early if you want seats at the bar. The service was great. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. The manager even came around to see how we were doing.

Came here with a party of 4, friends from out of town. We were able to get reservations and it's conveniently located off the metro stop. We decided to the taste of the south and it did not disappoint. This selection came with many different items and if you decide to order this, it does take time. The tasting menu and its portions were thoughtfully crafted and we were able to try every dish without feeling hungry or without too much extra. Each item was so good and I would eat any of them again. My favorite was the Kim chee collard greens. The collard greens were cooked well without being mushy, like how I sometimes get them, and they had a nice Kim chee kick. The chicken and waffle was another one I enjoyed. The chicken was so good and the waffle also was golden and had a crunchy, not soggy waffle. If you're hungry and the items on the tasting menu are interesting, then I would recommend it! Everyone in your party must participate though.

Arrived at Succotash as a Valentine's Day surprise, my husband decided we should start trying new places especially after we watched a culinary show with Chef Edward Lee.Upon arrival the restaurant is within a building with two large doors with I believe corn shaped handles. Upon entrance it has a nice dim lit ambiance with tables set up on two floors. The second floor overlooks the first. There was an available Valentine's Day menu to enjoy in its entirety or a la carte. There were options on the traditional menu to do a tasting of a few menu items - the taste of the south.I decided on the Valentine's Day menu lamb option my husband ordered ribs. Comparing both our meals the lamb was definitely more flavorful while the ribs and dirty rice felt they were missing something not quite hitting the mark on expected flavor profiles, although they did look visually appealing and were very tender. We did also try the deviled eggs with bacon jam, which was enjoyable with a nice piece of bacon paired under with jam beneath the whipped deviled egg yolk. As well as the fried oysters which we were informed had a kick but we also enjoyed. Service was great, our waiter informed us of menu items they enjoyed, drinks we might consider and ways to explore the menu from his experience. Interested in trying more menu items possibly at a happy hour visit bar side.

I went right after Culinary Wars aired because I was obsessed with Edward Lee. This is the central location by Chinatown. There is another succotash in the National Harbor by the casino. This was my first time going with my friend who had been there in the past. I was really happy to see a late happy hour here so we got to partake in happy hour, and because it's DC the service here is exquisite. The restaurant is absolutely stunning. I think it's an old bank turned restaurant and the ceiling is just spectacular. I quite enjoyed a lot of the appetizers, but the steak was really disappointing. We obviously got a prime rib. The name has prime in it but the steak was dry. I think it might've been an off day so I will have to come back. When I checked their website towards the end of the year, they did have a fun culinary wars (if you've been living under a rock, this is the Korean cooking competition on Netflix) special menu, but I think this might not be there anymore so just doublecheck.

I came with a group of friends for brunch and I was very impressed. The exterior if I wasn't actively looking for it, I would have assumed it to be a bank or some corporate company. The interior almost makes you forget that you are in a restaurant in DC, I felt like I was in a museum/greenhouse. Our group got the "Taste The South" as we were about 10 people. It's a set menu served family style including appetizers, mains and sides. Two people in our group had nut allergies, which they were very accommodating on even with the "no substitutions please". Our server was very attentive to our needs, after each course was finished, our plates and silverware were all cleared and given a new set. He would sweep away crumbs in between courses as well. Portion sizes were plentiful and considerate of everyone. The fried green tomatoes would have been more enjoyable if they were laid on top of the salad rather than beneath. I felt that it lost the texture of the breading. My favorite dish was the French Toast which was substituted for the Pecan Sticky Buns. The brioche was so crispy on the outside that it almost felt like it was panko crusted instead of corn crusted, the inside was so fluffy, The mixture of the lemon curd, berries and maple syrup were the perfect balance between tart and sweet. It is a must try. We also tried their drinks; according to one of the individuals in the group, the gochujang bloody mary had very little gochujang taste. My boyfriend got the bellini but without the egg white foam. My friend tried Belle's Punch which was very tasty in his opinion and I got the Hey Peaches. The Hey Peaches is quite bourbon forward, it was the first time I'd had a frozen bourbon drink and I highly recommend eating the peach ring first or else you'll get hit with a wave of bourbon if you let it soak. Overall, I would love to come back and try their other dishes. It was hard not to peer over to other tables to see what they were ordering.
