Stan's Restaurant & Bar

By far, the best chicken wings I have ever had. No other restaurant that I have visited to enjoy chicken wings comes close. Located on the corner of Vermont and L in City Center down a winding flight of stairs in the basement, Stan's is a superb local hangout spot with great vibes, food, and drinks to go around. My server Jacks Jacks (or Jackie) was awesome, and made me feel at home as I quickly determined my drink order and my food order. Throughout the evening, she made sure I had what I needed for water, extra napkins, additional cocktails. She was superb.And as I said at the beginning... THE BEST CHICKEN WINGS I HAVE EVER ATE. I ordered a full portion of uncut wings that were deep fried and battered with a mixture that was simply divine. I am a flats person systematically removing the bones and cartilage to enjoy the perfectly crispy skin and piping hot meat was a joy. Pure joy. Technically, you didn't need the buffalo sauce from the serving bowl in the middle. Because the wings were sooooooo good by themselves. I devoured the drums while some of the flats needed to cool down, using these to dip into sauce. I couldn't get over how delicious the fried battered skin was on the wings. Perfectly cooked, juicy, the skin just magic in your mouth. Also I enjoyed a couple of cocktails: the sidecar was solid, but the deconstructed Paloma was quite a trip. At Stan's, they prepare the cocktail by pouring your choice of tequila (I did Don Julio) in a tall glass 3/4th full with a side of pink grapefruit juice. You determine how much grapefruit juice you want in the tequila glass. I am pretty sure there was at least two shots, maybe three of tequila. I was feeling footloose and fancy free after that drink, let me tell you. I had the grin and was feeling thin.I also enjoy the joys of lemon cake with a side of vanilla ice cream that was the perfect compliment for a good evening out. And you. Can't go wrong having a good evening out at Stan's. The restaurant and bar crackles with energy after work especially as the drinks flow and the food is noshed. People discussing all things politics and more, taking it all in and feeling the vibrations and togetherness.

Wow... all I can say... I am so full. Awesome food. Unique atmosphere. Friendly and accommodating service.I am so glad I found this place on Yelp. This place is known as a staple of DC and it's the truth. We got there and it was packed but they got us a table quick.Let's talk about the food. My burger was big and delicious and I ordered the slaw to see how they make it here. It was just how I like it... not too creamy, it was crunchy and I loved every bite. Let's put it this way about my burger... it was so good that my wife took a piece of it away from me!!!My wife ordered the tenders and a baked potato. The potato was a good size and came with bacon and sour cream and butter. She loved it.My daughter ordered the half wings with mashed potatoes. Wings have a great rub on them and the masked potatoes came as a huge portion and were a good garlicky flavor.All in all... great experience!!!!

You're not coming here for an upscale experience, you're coming for the wings and strong ass drinks!Stan's has been one of my favorite bars for the past 8 years. No frills. Just a simple good time.

I've heard for awhile that Stan's is a staple in DC for its strong drinks and it's wings so once I started craving wings I knew I had to go. When I went the timing lined up perfectly because it was still happy hour and I found a parking spot right in front of the restaurant (winning lol). The bar was pretty full when we got there around 4:15 pm and the dining room only had a couple of people there. The chairs were super comfortable and the bar gives a very homey neighborhood vibe. We had the best server, Joaquin. He was so friendly and kind, popping in at the right time to check in on us and he was so laid back. We ordered their mozzarella sticks, fries and some wings. On top of that we got a tequila sour and a beer. The drink was strong and the wings were fried to perfection. They could've had a little more seasoning in my opinion but still delicious and paired well with the mumbo sauce. Everything else was your average bar food. We ended up leaving with left over wings and paying about $50 which I think is not bad for drinking and eating in the city and leaving full. Stan's has been around for about 48 years and I'm so happy that I finally was able to pop in. Check Stan's out the next time you're in the city.

Drinks are hella strong and the wings are legendary. It's a DC classic for a reason. It gets crowded during seasonal events like HU homecoming and CBC weekend, so plan your visit accordingly.

Love Stan's for a fun Friday night vibe! I went for a friend's birthday. The drinks were well made and everyone enjoyed their food. I wasn't a fan of the shrimp alfredo but others at my table loved it so it might just be my tastebuds. The space is tight but comfortable and definitely a good time for a large group, a few friends or a couple. Stan's is known for their wings so I definitely recommend trying them - so good!

Stan's is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in DC! I've been coming here for years and they have never disappointed me. While this restaurant stays busy due to its popularity, I've never had an issue getting a table. The restaurant is fun and super lively and is always a great time due to the staff and crowd. For food, my friends and I usually do a half order of the baked wings and a half order of the fried wings. You can't go wrong with either order and both are delicious. Also, help yourself to one of Stan's famous drinks! The pours are amazing and lives up the Stan name.If you're in the area, definitely visit!

Been coming here since spring 1997 and spend 10k a year here. Much love from all the staff. But lately, the new night manager has been very aggressive. Her name is stormy. She screams and hollers about time to leave but the website says closing is 1 and 1/2 hours away. Say a man should drink his drinks faster. The professionalism has left the the door at Stan's.

Let me start off by saying; yes the reviews are correct!! Their drinks are strong and their food is good! I drank 2 long islands, which tasted like an actual Long Island, and ate half dozen whole wings which end up being a dozen regular wings! That mamba sauce they serve it with wow! Delicious! The bartender was attentive and the conversation flowed effortlessly. Will definitely come back when in DC!

It has been almost a year since i have visited Stan's. I ordered the corned beef sandwich expecting a decent meal, but what was delivered to me was a life-changing experience. This sandwich was so good that it ruined all other corned beef sandwiches for me. The corned beef is perfectly tender, paired with various other toppings and sauces sitting perfectly between two crispy slices of bread. Sometimes i close my eyes and imagine that I'm eating this sandwich for the first time again. Sadly, i can never experience it for the first time again, but i look forward to the day that i am able to consume this perfection on a plate again. Thank you Stan, sadly i don't have a picture of the sandwich, but eating it made me feel like a kid going to Disneyland for the first time, so i put a picture of that.
