I've been coming to South China since I went to GW across the street. Now as adult with my on family,my mouth still drools over their Singapore noodles and General Tso chicken, and what's better is it taste the same as it did back then. I've tried many other Chinese sit down restaurants and takeout places, for convenience reasons, and nothing has come close to being satisfactory in taste.

Here on a warm Fall day for some variation on typical Chinese food (Malaysian) and wound up at South China in Del Ray. An unassuming store front greets you to a basic 4 walled restaurant. But again, one doesn't typically need a fancy restaurant to get great Chinese food. The difference I found between traditional Chinese and the Malaysian is more of an Indian twist on staples (more spices and some spicier options), distinct soups and the noodles. On the latter, rather than the wide egg noodles are yummy fried and chicken noodles. As for soups, you've got to try the Pan Mee (House Special). It is unique with a chicken base, mushrooms, fish balls and mustard greens. Outstanding! We also pigged out on the Sayang Meehoon, which is the aforementioned fried rice noodle adorned with plentiful tofu and shrimp in a spicy soy bean sauce.Don't say that Chinese food is boring because it's all the same. We were impressed with the variety and quality, and I suspect you will be too.

We got this for delivery and it was amazing. The General Tso chicken was just the right amount of spice. The beef lo mein was also very good. We added dumplings and wonton to our order and they were also fresh and tasty. The food was delivered hot and quickly!

I'm a big fan of South China--probably order delivery once a week, and it's always fast and good. The food is fresh and prepared just right, and the portion sizes are huge. One dish = at least 2 meals for me. Highly recommend!

I love food places that look a little "hole in the wall" ish. It's not a very big place and not a lot of decor but it gets the job done when it comes to Chinese food. The food was hot and delicious. We got plenty of condiments and our fortunes were good! My lo me in was a little oily but still enjoyable. I would order from here again!

Ordered pickup on a Sunday afternoon around 5PM. I had no issues with the pickup or the payment at all. We ordered off their website and were able to pickup our order easily within 20 minutes (could have been faster but we were able to choose the specific time of our order)We got the sesame beef and general tso's chicken. Both were really good. The sauce was delish and both our dishes came with some steamed broccoli which I always like to use as a sauce sponge. My beef was a bit hard to get through, but using a knife I was able to get it into smaller more manageable pieces.

Searching for a "pre marathon" take out meal and this spot checked all the boxes. The food was your standard take out but it was good and the owners were the nicest. You could tell that this was a beloved spot as there were several regulars that popped in while we were waiting for our order. The portions were hearty and the garlic sauce was delicious. I just wish the wontons in the soup were a bit more "put together" but all in all a great meal.

Lunch specials are still good if you get the right thing. Recently got the sesame shrimp for dinner and it was terrible. Literally just huge pieces of breading with tiny shrimp inside. I think my $14 meal had like 4-5 shrimp and everything else was just breading. The fried rice was also undercooked and had no flavor this time around. Should have just gotten white rice instead. Not sure if it was an off day but I don't on't recommend those dishes.Still a fan of the egg drop soup though.

One of the essential foods that I need to survive is Chinese Food. South China does a very good job of preparing Hot Delicious Food; American Chinese Food.I like this place. A small takeout restaurant with 8 or so tables. There is no waiter service, but the food comes out in takeout packaging to the table. Some paper plates and eat. Simple and no frills.I have only done takeout and service is fast. NYC fast; old-school fast. You call. Place an order. Ten or fifteen minutes later. Pick up and enjoy. Been here half a dozen times already. Always fast. Always ready on time. The food is delicious.Standard dumpling. Had them both pan-fried and steamed. Like them both; not doughy. Lite on flavor for my taste; but it's really tasty. Enjoy with hot oil.Beef Chow Fun. Another winner. The noodles have body; not mush; even after a 15-minute car ride. Plenty of beef. Tender. Flavorful. Nice change of pace for me.Pork Lo Mein. Spot on dish. This is a go-to dish for me. Noodles, protein, veggies, and sauce; equals delicious. My order had plenty of the above. Decent noodles. Tender pork. Veggies in proportion. Well well-balanced dish.Beef Szechuan and Pork Szechuan. Had both and both were delicious. Nice Szechuan sauce. Spicy hot but not deadly spicy. I like the layers of flavors in this style of dish. Again tender beef and pork with carrots, onions, and celeray. Delicious. My favorite; is The Egg Roll. I am a sucker for egg rolls. Top it with your favorite sauce and enjoy. Hot, tasty, filling...Overall, South China is a very good American Chinese Restaurant. Very friendly service. Large portions. Easy on the wallet. Always leftovers. Hot and tasty. CC friendly. Plenty of street parking. No frills; just delicious food. These are all the things I look for in my local Chinese Restaurant.
