Just for reference, the location of this food truck is at 200 Florida Ave, NW, Washington DC. We tried this place via the TooGoodToGo app (an app to help save food waste!) So glad this was our first place to try using this app, since we were late and the food truck owner was super nice! We called her knowing we were running late since we came across a car crash on George Washington Memorial highway. She was totally understanding and friendly about it even tho normally she closes at 7pm. We got there around 7:15 and waited for a little bit before getting our surprise bag :) What we ended up getting was a meal filled with delicious fries and wings! I'm not sure what the sauce was, but it was sweet and yummy! Feels extra good to be decreasing food waste while trying out a new and delicious food place!

They missed the mark for me... I ordered two sides because the gentleman at the registered stated they cook their fish and salmon cakes in the same grease as the chicken and being pescatarian that would definitely upset my stomach. So, I had to stick to sides which he said weren't cooked with meat. The Mac n Cheese - lacked moisture and cheese throughout and tasted as if it had been seasoned with oregano or something similar. The Greens - were cooked to a good texture but I didn't like the way they were seasoned either. I ate two fork fulls and it went in the trash. The greens had a nice little kick to them but they were sweet... It made me think of one of those pre-mixed seasonings, my colleague thinks it may be red peppers and honey from what he tasted. I won't be returning but if you like trying different (flavorwise) things this may be the place for you. I will note, they were playing an amazing Oldie but Goodie play list :)

Being from the South, I was skeptical a place in the middle of a downtown DC food court could deliver legit Southern food but they actually do a pretty decent job. For $13 I had a combo which contained two huge tasty fresh hot fried pork chops, some yellow rice and gravy, and seasoned green beans with a side of excellent sweet corn bread. The portions were huge and in fact I had enough I was able to take half of it back to the office and eat it for lunch the next day. That doesn't happen too often with downtown DC restaurants so that's quite a deal. I can't say this place is the best Southern food I've ever had but for a downtown DC food court it more than does the job. I enjoyed my meal and will be back here for sure.

Interesting meal. I've had better, but I'll up it to 3, for now. I got the jerk chicken, soul fries, and collard greens. So, about this jerk chicken... It's... interesting. It's not your conventional grilled or baked jerk chicken. It seems like they fried it hard and then soak it in a jerk type sauce. The sauce is liquefied with a fair amount of green, tangible jerk stuff. It was fairy spicy and had some heat to it. They're nowhere near the best jerk wings I've had, but they sufficed. On a spicy scale from Eva Longoria to Rosie Perez, it was about a Jennifer Lopez, so it had some heat. Therefore, I needed relief and my challenge with this meal is that I didn't feel like I got any. The fries were crinkle cut with old bay seasoning. I had a ginger ale, and I don't drink soda often, so the carbonated fizz didn't assuage my tongue at all. So, I assumed that my only resort to offset the heat was the greens. So, I go to try the greens and the flavor was very peculiar. Initially, the greens tasted sweet and I thought we had another grits sugar/salt debate on our hands. Then, as I ate more, they started tasting spicy. So, I had spicy wings, spicy greens, spicy fries, spicy soda, and no relief. I got through the meal with my nose running and head sweating. The meal didn't leave me ecstatic or disappointed, just kind of bewildered. I believe this place has 3 star potential if you get the right items. I will say that the meal I had did not justify $11 dollars.

Wow, some harsh critics for this place. Okay, if your mother was an African American woman who came from North Carolina or Alabama and made Southern Soul Food the traditional old fashioned way with her own unique modifications perfected over a lifetime, well no, this place is not going to compare. And if you're looking for the kind of polite, obedient, prompt service you might expect at, say, Olive Garden, you're also going to be disappointed. But I'm going to say this place deserves four stars because compared to other mall food court meals, "Yay! I'm a fan." The only thing I miss about my first marriage was my mother-in-law's cooking, and yes, she was an African-American woman of a certain age who came up north during the tail end of the Great Migration but her cooking sensibilities never left rural North Carolina. I don't ever expect to experience that heavenly heart-attack building culinary perfection in a restaurant, but "Original Soul Wingz" really isn't bad at all, I enjoyed it. It's got more soul than the any other mall food court food, and frankly I liked that the counter service wasn't scripted, even if it wasn't the most polite exchange I've ever been in. And they were rocking 1970s funk unabashed and unfettered, so I'm coming back any time I'm around.

First let me say I wrote a review on Facebook and like magic it was gone! So they are deleting negative reviews.... I used uber eats so I never stepped foot inside but I WILL NEVER WASTE MY MONEY ON FOOD FROM HERE AGAIN!!!!!! I ordered baked wings...... BUT I certainly did not get them! They sent me naked fried wings with bland cabbage and runny mac and cheese that was somehow dry at the top. I only ate what I ate of the food because I was starving. My co-worker ordered fried wings but everyone else got 10 wings and she got 6. The wings were dry and hard. And they did not send our corn bread but maybe that was a blessing.... I will not order here EVER again. PLEASE do not waste your money on this establishment. If I could give it ZERO stars I would!

Wow. Really disappointing $13 lunch. The wings were NOT cooked all the way through! If you are going to wait as I did, you expect the poultry to be cooked completely. The greens were sweet (ewww), the mac and cheese was just ok. It was not organized at the registry. Waste of money.

Had a great experience...the food is delicious! Had the wings (lemon pepper, mango habanero, jerk, and sweet chili pepper). They were cooked perfectly. The steak and cheese and chicken cheese steaks were big and tasty. The whiting and shrimp were very good too. Owners were professional and pleasant. Will definitely be back soon.

SAVE YOURSELF A TRIP!! Omg I would not recommend Soul Wingz to a soul. Just left here less than 15 mins ago & instead of enjoying my lunch, i'm on yelp leaving a review. That lets you know how nasty my meal was. I ordered the rotisserie chicken, green beans & mac. The only thing that was good was the skin on the chicken. I initially wanted wings but they didn't have any, which is weird with the name being Soul Wingz. I want to go home & make a plate of "real" soul food for them, so they can see the huge difference in taste. If people pay for this..I can make a killing with my food!!! *Also the customer service sucked. I was next in line and the older cashier with glasses looked right past me to attempt to help the older lady behind me. Weird. Then after I had my order, I asked her for hotsauce. She said ok but never got it. Had to end up asking someone else. I guess it's the old lady gang up here because they were getting all the convo & help. I was on my own.
