As long as this spot has been around, somehow I am only just recently discovering it, and admittedly, I'm ashamed. Right along the Rt 1 corridor, across from Between The Bread which I frequented for quite a bit, is this hidden gem of a distillery. I think one reason I forgot about it is because they're only open a few days a week, and a majority of the time when I go by they're closed. But anyways, after grabbing some sandwiches from across the street, I saw some activity, and I was with my parents. I asked if they were interested in checking them out. Gin and whiskeys and brandies, oh my! They have quite the menu, and they use some less common fruits in their cocktails and spirits, like pears and pomegranates. The staff are really cool, and my parents enjoyed some bomb gimlets (one of their favorite cocktails). It's not far from home, but this small spot is definitely worth supporting. And it's looking like they're about to expand.

Inviting place with cheerful barkeeps; all are knowledgeable about the history of Sangfroid, the brand. This local distillery has a bar/tasting area which, of course, features the results of their special alchemy. I'd purchased their apple brandy at a farmer's market; put some into an apple cobbler that I baked, and, wowie, did that cobbler zing! So, decided to check out Sangfroid's retail space to taste some of their other products--I wasn't disappointed.Their liquors are lovingly made and rich; can taste the difference immediately.Had a White Russian, made with Sangfroid's coffee liquor that uses coffee from nearby Vigilante's, a local coffee house/roaster. It's delicious and bold. Jeff Bridges would love this White Russian (movie hint: What "The Dude" drinks in The Big Lebowski). Also tried a Hot Cider, made with their pear bandy--yummy.Walked out with a bottle of their Old Dutch Style Gin and some of their maple syrup. The maple syrup is a partnership with a maple syrup producer from Vermont. Sangfroid ages it in rye barrels. Marketed as "Strong Syrup", it's top-notch stuff.Open 3 days a week, I've encouraged them to increase the hours! Conveniently located on Route 1, in Hyattsville, MD, across from Franklin's Restaurant.

Very cool distillery that offers a variety of gins, brandies, and whiskies that all have distinct flavors. Everything is made on site and their owners are really fun to chat with

The distillery was really cool. Many of the products are made on site. We went for the tastings and to pick up winter gifts. On the flight tastings you are able to choose from gin, Brandy, and a few other options. The atmosphere was really laid back and the staff super helpful and informative. Overall I thought it was a great experience.

This place rocks. I follow them on IG but I've never gone there even though it's close by. Well on NYE, they advertised a pear brandy that was available by delivery. Now I love pear cocktails so I gave it a try. What gets this place 5 stars isn't just the booze , it's the service!I messaged to confirm I could still order for delivery even though it was already NYE. They said "absolutely." And no lie, before I could drive back home from the eastern shore, that brandy was waiting for me when I got home. How was the brandy? Delightful. Now I usually savor alcohol but by early February, that's right six weeks later, the brandy was gone and I needed more for this hot cider that's been my weekend companion. For me, that's saying something because I never finish a bottle of any spirit. The brandy rrrooocckkkss!!I reached out to ask about a dilemma, pear brandy or apple brandy? I explained that I could get both but I need to watch my waist line so I keep it to one bottle of alcohol at at time. Not only did they provide me with decision making information, they gave me a coupon code too! I mean booze, communication, and coupons, I think I'm in love. I opted for curbside pickup and that was a breeze. I parked out front, the order was packed and ready, and I was back in the car in less than 2 minutes.

The "Maryland Rye Whiskey" is a must try and the "Old Fashioned" is the best I've ever had. I recommend stopping by if you are in the area.

Sangfroid Distilling is a pleasant new entry onto the blooming Maryland craft distillery market. How new? Their doors opened to the public about four weeks ago. Co-Owners, Jeff and Nate have nurtured their passion for making fine beverages for years. Starting with brewing, they have now firmly transition into the fine art of distilling. Distilling raised to the level of an art form may be accurate, as they were completely sold out of their Pear Brandy. Leaving only their delightful gin behind. Gin that needs to be replaced, as both the 750ml and the 350ml bottles keep marching out the door in the arms of the happy public. Speaking of Gin, make sure you go for a tour and tasting. Let Nate take you through the different ways to enjoy Sangfroid's gin. You will go from, "That's pretty good" all the way to "Wow! I'm sold. Give me a bottle!" Brandy topping you list instead of gin? Switch over to Jeff for tales of reclamation of the 45 acre apple orchards, rain fall, harvest, and all the steps that lead up to soon to be replenished supply of brandy. Sangfroid is young and growing, with a very bright future ahead of them. Get to know them now, so that years down the road you can say how you knew them back at the beginning of their journey.

I recently moved to Takoma Park and realized I have a small distillery right in the backyard/neighborhood.Sangfroid is relatively new, doors have been open 8 months but distilling has been happening for almost a year, and they are already turning out exciting spirits. This is the most local, handcrafted, small batch experience you will find in the DMV. Clearly the focus is on product and making something fully in-house and Maryland local. If you're interested in a high-production product experience, go to One Eight or Sagamore. But, if you want a more unique product and a personal touch from the owners/founders/distillers you need to go to Sangfroid. These guys understand that there is no shortage of American Whiskey in the market and the need for more local/exceptional/unique product.

Sangfroid, whose rye whisky, pear brandy, and gin we've been enjoying at home, is open for cocktails in the weekend now! We went down to try it out--tried the Old Fashioned, Negroni, and Dutch Mule. All the drinks were perfect--especially the Old Fashioned--and the guys are super friendly and helpful. Another great addition to Hyattsville!
