I was in the area and had a craving for sushi so Sakana was perfect for a solo meal. Service was efficient and no frills. Rolls had a great ratio of rice to fish and tasted fresh. Salmon sushi was so buttery! Rolls were certainly worth the price, and they're cheaper than others in the area. Quite a few solo diners and take out orders on a Tuesday night. Very much a local hangout. I'll be back!

Sakana has REALLY gone downhill. We have not eaten here for several years and now I understand why. The waitress was among the worst I have ever experienced. When she took our order, she put her order sheet on our table and bent down with her face so close to my face that I could smell her breath (and it was not good). She maybe said 4 words to us and they were when she brought the bill for payment. We ordered tempura for an appetizer. When she delivered it, I asked if that was the entire order because it was so pathetically small. She did not answer. The yakitori dan was ok. That's the best I can say.It is not the worst restaurant I have ever been to - but it's close. I cannot recommend Sakana to anyone.

Pro-tip: Place a pick up order and pick up at the P street door, not what the directions will point you to. Also, when you arrive call them and they will come out.Food: 3*Service: 3*Value: 4*Was staying across the street and wanted sushi. Their individual sushi prices were good, the lunch were just okay in terms of price to quantity. Very fresh, tasty and delicious.

This place is odd. They claim to be open at 11:30 AM for lunch, which they are, but not for dine in. Instead you have to stand outside and either creepily look in the place until someone notices you or you need to call letting them know you're there. You can't even get to the front door as the gate is locked. The sushi is also meh. The rolls are cheap because they're tiny and basic. I spent around $25 and thought it was a waste. One and done for me.

Sakana Japanese Restaurant in Dupont Circle is a hidden gem that will transport you straight to Tokyo. But before we dive into the food, let's talk about the history of Dupont Circle itself. Did you know that Dupont Circle was once a rural area known for its farmland and orchards? It wasn't until the late 19th century that the area began to develop into the bustling neighborhood we know today. Now, back to the food. Sakana Japanese Restaurant is a small, unassuming spot that packs a big punch when it comes to flavor. Their menu is full of traditional Japanese dishes, from sushi to ramen, and everything in between. But what really sets them apart is their commitment to using only the freshest ingredients. They source their fish from the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, which means you can expect some of the highest quality sushi outside of Japan.Their sushi selection is impressive, with over 20 different options to choose from. But if you're looking for something truly unique, try their Omakase experience. For $120, you'll receive a carefully curated selection of sushi, including rare and exotic fish flown in directly from Japan. It's a true culinary adventure that will leave you feeling like a king (or queen). But Sakana isn't just about sushi. Their ramen is also top-notch, with a rich, savory broth that's simmered for hours to perfection. And their tempura is light and airy, never greasy or heavy. Plus, their service is always friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home.In short, Sakana Japanese Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who loves Japanese cuisine. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or just looking for a new culinary adventure, this little gem in Dupont Circle is sure to impress. So next time you're in the area, stop by and experience a taste of Japan in the heart of Washington D.C.

In search of sushi in the Georgetown/DuPont area late Friday night and "stumbled" (I say that with air quotes as it's easy to miss) across Sakana. A traditional Japanese style restaurant with a nice assortment of sushi and other dishes. We ordered California, spider, avocado, and spicy tuna rolls plus the chicken teriyaki. The food was delicious with great presentation. Our waitress was a bit all over the place but considering how busy it was not too big a deal. Will definitely be back as it was well priced and tasted great.

surprised by ratings because this place is truly a hidden gem! this place is definitely underrated, the rolls here are very inexpensive (I.e spider rolls for 7.50 is unmatched and unheard of in the dmv area), with decent portions. Service was nothing to complain about as well. It does get crowded during dinner time, and ambiance is more like a hole in the wall vibe, but the quality and cost of food makes up for it.

OH MY GOODNESS!! Stay away from this restaurant, horrible food and rude service. We came in a group of 4 about half an hour before closing. The waitress has a rude attitude, we accidentally ordered something wrong and she spoke with her voice as if we committed a crime. THE FOOD IS THE WORST PART. I ordered a KATSU DON which supposed to be deep fried pork cutlet over rice but it came out to be microwaved old fried pork cutlet with an egg over it.The soup is bland and full of processed meat. Overall, please walk couple more minutes for a better restaurant nearby.
