Ruby's Jamaican Kitchen

I recently visited Ruby's Jamaican Restaurant, and I must say, it was a delightful experience! The atmosphere is quaint and inviting. Despite being a busy spot, the energy was vibrant, adding to the overall appeal.I ordered the oxtails, collard greens, and mac and cheese. Each dish was made to order, and while it took about 40 minutes for my meal to arrive, it was well worth the wait. The oxtails were tender, the collards perfectly seasoned, and the mac and cheese was delicious!If you're looking for a place with amazing food, I highly recommend Ruby's. I can't wait to go back and try more from their menu!

The food is still good but the service is really taking a hit. I know there's a long running joke about poor service at Jamaican spots --I'm not expecting smiles and pats on the back--but I do expect that when I order ahead, the time you tell me the food will be available will be close to accurate (on Saturday I waited 45 min after the ready time of the food) and I expect that you will give me what I ordered (ordered bbq jerk, waited 45 min, came home and it was just regular jerk). The food was still good, but it wasn't what I ordered. As I waited in the car for the food (and my husband waited inside to pick it up), they offered him a beef patty for his wait (great!) and then made him pay for it. That should have been on the house for the wait. Double check your order and be prepared to wait.

Today I walked in to grab a snack while waiting to get the car to get detailed and I'm so glad I did!! The patties were fresh out the oven and piping hot. The patties were exceptionally good. I'm still thinking about the curry chicken patty and how perfectly seasoned it was! They were so good that I was done eating BOTH in 10-15 minutes. Curry chicken Patty: 10/10Beef Patty: 9/10 The patties would be the best in the world if they contained a little bit more filling. The crust was the perfect amount of flakiness. I will definitely be back to have the curry chicken as a dish!

Definitely a solid Jamaican food spot but a little far from us. It was about a 50 min drive for us to get here. We also learned it gets crazyyy busy here. We didn't mind waiting but be prepared that it can be around a 30 min wait or so if you don't put in an online order. But the wait was worth it. The jerk chicken was bussin . The meat patty and jerk chicken patty were also both delicious. The dinner portion comes stacked too. It costs a little more than the lunch but you get your money's worth. The Mac and cheese and the cabbage were both great sides. The ginger beer here is spicy and I love it. The service here was friendly and as fast as they could be given how busy it was when we visited. The restaurant is small but it does have a little bit of seating if you choose to eat there. Or if you want to wait inside.

We drove 1hr and 30 mins and I was so excited to bussss downnn! Mind you, it was so busy they said we might have to wait another hour I said alright I'm already here I can wait. The service was just regular they were just trying to keep up and didn't have time for much else. There was one big table with a few seats. We ordered:Coco bread 9/10 Beef patty 8/10Chicken patty 8/10Jerk chicken 8/10Brown stew 6/10 - this was mine and it was dry no actual sauce for the stew. The rice was dry dry and over cooked beans in rice was dry. Plantains were alright. The cabbage was not traditional it was a coleslaw that was cold with interesting taste. Overall, I probably wouldn't drive that far for it again since it was busssinnn downnn for me. I will say, they might've just had a really busy night sadly.

Went for lunch today. Got jerk chicken, rice and peas, and Mac and cheese. Service was great and food came out hot, fresh, and fast. Tons of flavor and really great! Had the chicken curry patty, sorrel, and key lime Bundt cake as well. The curry patty was so good it didn't even make it home! I'm so glad I gave this place another chance and looking forward to trying more! They had container for hot sauce this time so I got some hot sauce to go!

And they've gotten worse...... too many people standing around and they make plating food too hard. I asked about timing on a patty and the dude was like I don't know...there in the oven. No more.......

This was my first visit to Ruby's; it was on my tagged restaurants to try. I ordered curry chicken, Mac & cheese, cabbage, and rice and beans for takeout from their Alexandria location. First, none of the items was tasty. I was disappointed with everything. Additionally, they used pasta shells for the Macaroni & cheese, and not macaroni. The rice grains were very tiny, which becomes gritty when rewarmed. The cabbage was shredded like slaw, and had a sweet taste. Lastly, takeout was the only option for this location. Therefore, I really don't like this growing trend to program high tips into payment systems. I felt intimidated into adding a 15% tip. This is not fair to waiters who work hard for tips.

My husband and I recently visited Rubys and we absolutely loved it. We were both craving Jamaican food and this hit the spot on Saturday. We got the jerk chicken wings and oxtail lunch combos and let me tell you they were out of this world. For sides, we got the Mac & cheese, collard greens, cabbage, mac & cheese and plantains. The jerk chicken wings were very tender, a little spicy and just so so good. The oxtails were succulent, juicy, and the broth that was soaked in it was just delicious. The sides were all delicious but what stood out the most to me were the collard greens!! I would highly recommend this restaurant, please go check them out because they are just such a good restaurant .

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic spot. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the establishment and the friendliness of the staff. Given its popularity, I highly recommend ordering ahead online to avoid the wait, but trust me, it's well worth it. The jerk salmon is nothing short of extraordinary--it melts in your mouth, and the sauce is the perfect blend of spicy and flavorful. I especially love how the sauce complements the rice; I always ask for extra to drizzle over it.This dish has quickly become one of my favorites, and I can't recommend it enough. If you're in the mood for something delicious and satisfying, this is the place to go!
