Pupuseria La Familiar

Okay these pupusas were delicious. A friend who lives nearby told me a while ago, so I'm glad I decided to finally check it out. It's located across from the plaza that has Ko's, Hip Hop, LAX and others. The inside has plenty of tables and booths, and there is a counter at the far back for pickup / takeout orders. The pupusa menu stands out... there's a whopping 13 different options! I decided to get an Ayote (squash) and Frijoles (beans).Now, they took a while... like a whiiiiile lol. The place was about half full, but folks were constantly in and out for takeout orders... seems to be the norm in terms of service based on other reviews. So call ahead! That's what I'm gonna do next time. And there most definitely will be a next time because THEY WERE DELICIOUS! Great texture, great filling... nice and cheesy, but not obnoxiously. I'm going to make it a point to go through the full list. The Loca sounds fun because it has pork, chicken, beans, cheese, squash AND loroco. If you like pupusas, give em a shot for sure. But be prepared to wait if you don't order ahead. Also, try dining in!

I'm happy we chose to try Salvadoran cuisine today. The pupusas and platanos were delicious, but the service was noticeably slow. The atmosphere was enjoyable.

Accidentally came to this location for dinner as we usually go to the college park location and sort of sorry we came to this one because the service was so slow and there was only one other table. It was sorta ridiculous. I'm only giving this 3 stars because our food was good and my previous experiences with the other location. If you're able to, I'd only order pick up instead of dine in because it'll save you time and frustration.

This place was recommended by my friend for pupusas. I ordered pupusa pollo and loca, which was very authentic, and it tasted so good. Got plantains and salad as side dishes, and they complemented well together. The wait time was less, and the service was good. Overall, it was good and will come again.

I appreciate the service, the ambience and the food! The best pupusas I've EVER had and trust me.. I am up in age, I've been eating them since I was 12yrs old.. when I am rating this place I am rating it across the board including home made pupusas and restaurants across 4 states (NY, NJ, MD, FL) hands down and big ups to La Familiar.. those pupusas are the best!

Came to this little spot off the strength of my friends recommendation. I've had many failed attempts at good Hispanic food and this one right here was the winner. I ordered the seafood soup (Mariscada) and man was it delicious. Did not need any salt or anything extra. Just what I needed on a Sunday afternoon. Love this place

Been a while since I had pupusas. This place hit the spot! The staff were welcoming, wore mask and gloves, and checked my temperature. The seats are well spread out to the walls, no seating in the middle of the dining area.My orders consisted of two pupusas, cheese w/ loroco (Salvadoran flower bud) and cheese w/chipilin (perennial legume leaf, like spinach). I also got a healthy portion of their sopa de gallina (chicken soup).The pupusas are super cheesy delicious. I really enjoyed trying both new flavors to me. The chipilin did have a familiar spinach taste. The loroco was different, a hint of bitterness, not much, mixes subtlety with the gooey cheesy goodness. The side sauce was not overbearing, adding a little savoriness to the pupusas. I also really like the side slaw, a little vinegary taste and great crunch factor when pairing with the pupusas.The soup is hearty and full of flavor! The grilled chicken breast is every health nuts' dream with little fats and all protein. A bit dry by itself so I diced it and added the chicken to the soup. Waaaaay more flavor and becomes less dry, absorbing the soups flavors. The soup had a variety of ingredients ranging from carrots, zucchini squash, chayote squash, potato, and a little bit of rice and shell noodles for giggles. I added lime for extra acidic goodness.Overall, I really like this place. They have many entree dishes that I have yet to try and many pupusa combos to check out next. Give it a try of you're around the Beltsville, MD area and want some really good pupusas. Until next we eat, stay safe and healthy! SUPER NOMZ!

Of the hundreds to thousands of choices of pupuserias in this general area, I choose to return to this spot at the location because of ease of access and timely made food. Considering each pupusa is hand made and supervised on the grill top, I have not once had a bad experience with room temp or cold food here. I'm a creature of habit, so I will always recommend a cheese pupusa with the cheese pulling apart as you tear it into pieces to dip in the tomato juice with the sliced cabbage. The chicharrón and pollo pupusas are a must try if you're not adventurous. But really you can't go wrong with any of their vast choices. Make sure you order an horchata to help all the goodness slide down!

(English translation at bottom)Yo fui a este restaurante con mi familia y Abuela. La mesera q nos sirvio se llama Elida. Nos atendio bien malo, casi nunca vino a nuestra mesa. Era malcreada, ella tenia atitud como no queria trabajar ahora. Nosotros vamos ahi siempre pero nunca mas. Muchos (2) platos q ordenamos, nunca llegaron y no lo importaba a la mesera. La carne de la sopa lo cosinaron frisado porq era muy ajuado y se desisio.I went to this restaurant with my family, mom and grandma to celebrate. We've been there multiple times. Our server (Elida B.) was very rude and absent the entire time. Almost as if she didn't wanna serve us or even work that day. 2 dishes never arrived and she was missing a lot of add ons that come with the entree's. My seafood soup had bad meat in it, it was very obvious they put old meat from the freezer and rushed it. All around bad experience, enough for me to never go again. I always go and it's a different waitress with better food experience and I tip 30-40%. Never again.
