History of Present Indulgence:After a night out in Chinatown, we needed a spot for dinner and noticed how popular New Big Wong was, so we decided to give it a try.Physical Exam:Food - The food is essentially New York takeout-style Chinese food. The entrees weren't terrible, but nothing stood out, and honestly, I don't even fully remember what we ordered. It's the kind of place my parents would have been disappointed in, and I felt the same. It'll satisfy a craving for sesame chicken or other takeout staples, but that's about it.Service - A typical mom-and-pop operation with quick service to keep up with the demand.Ambiance - Basic and no-frills, with a location right next to Capitol One Arena and a divey bar scene that clearly drives much of its popularity.Assessment/Plan:New Big Wong is fine if you're looking for a quick fix of takeout-style Chinese food in the heart of DC. Otherwise, you're better off heading out of the city for more authentic or memorable Chinese cuisine. It gets the job done, but not much more.

Poor service! My friends and I visited this restaurant last night & were disappointed by the service we received. Upon entering, we were not acknowledged; the staff continued their tasks as if we weren't there. After finally getting a staff member's attention, she was notably standoffish during our attempt to place an order. What stood out was that, after about ten minutes of waiting, a Caucasian family entered and was immediately greeted, seated, and provided with water and menus. This disparity in treatment left us feeling unwelcome and concerned about the establishment's practices.

We ordered carryout for four of us via DoorDash. It arrived quickly, and was fresh and hot.My shrimp egg foo young was full of shrimp, and it came with a separate large container of brown gravy -- perfect! I also had a couple of the crabmeat fried wontons, and they were very yummy. The others had General Tso's Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Cashew Chicken. All greatly enjoyed their choices. We also appreciated that we could easily opt for fried rice versus white with each order. This was recommended by a restaurateur relative as the best Chinese in the area, and after our meal from here, I'd agree! Thanks!

There was a lot of hype around this restaurant. I didn't want to believe it because the food seemed like standard greasy Chinese American fare, but I can now say that this is my go to spot for takeout. They are consistently good, there's a ton of variety, and the flavor is great.

The old saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" applies here big time. From the outside as you walk down a few steps you may wonder if you made a bad choice. Don't worry you didn't, this place is so good. The service was excellent. The food was great. I started with the wonton soup, it had two large wontons and the broth had good flavor. I got chicken lo mein for my main course. A very large portion, with lots of chicken and veggies. Cooked and seasoned just right. There are a lot of options in DC 's chinatown for authentic food, be sure to put New Big Wong on that list.

The location in Chinatown was convenient for the group I was with. Ordered many dishes but the highlight was their Peking duck, walnut shrimp and mapo tofu. Enjoyed chatting with the server who was helpful and while English wasn't perfect, they were able to help the group get a variety of dishes that were all good. Price to quality to quantity was very good.
