My Cup Runneth Over Southern Cuisine

I received a gift card to this restaurant, and I had not heard of it before. It was definitely my loss for not hearing about it. We ordered two catfish and shrimp platters and a few sides, and our total was about $65. The fish and shrimp were cooked perfectly and the hush puppies were small bites but I appreciated it. The only thing I wish they had was some homemade tarter sauce. The packets just doesn't match the greatness of the catfish. The wings were flavor-full and crispy. And the sides were just as good. I will have to ration myself because I will be here everyday! Ok taking a nap now...

Updating my review. I've ordered a few times from this restaurant and initially gave it 4 stars. Every time I order the same things . I desperately needed to find what I would call "hug on a plate". I wanted something ole school, something homey. I came across a "special" for the day. It was Salisbury Steak. The picture advertised looked really enticing. I ordered it with a side of mashed potatoes/gravy and collards. When I received it. It looked nothing like the picture in ANY way . In fact, the advertised picture was the first picture that popped up when I googled it (I did that because I was prepared to show the owner how it's typically made). It was two balls of ground beef without any seasoning. It was smothered in a very light brown gravy over a giant mound of rice. No mushrooms... no darker color in the gravy to show "flavor". Uber Eats wouldn't help with a refund because I had never complained about taste before. I just feel this was in NO WAY Salisbury steak and the pics could easily show from what they advertised. I called the restaurant. No one picks up so I leave a voicemail. Then I about several mins later when I was busy, I had two missed calls from the place. The third time, I picked up. It was a young lady that accidentally called the wrong person when inquiring that my order was ready for pick up. I stated I already received my order some time ago and she quickly apologized and hung up. Now, I also left them an email with all of my contact info to please contact me back. That was Feb 8,2025 and still no word. Therefore I'm updating my review. So important for mom n pop places to thrive but not when you start out strong and start to not care about the customers that keep it going. I'm a professional Chef by trade and at the end of the day, I sometimes don't want to cook and just want a tasty warm meal. This wasn't it and it feels like it's just bad business. Please, research your "specials" and make them special.

Our first time will not be our last. We are a senior couple.We took out four ribs, three chicken wings, coleslaw, beans, and special fries. Portions were generous so we got two meals each from this order. There are no other soul food offerings in the area that we are aware of so this was an experiment. Glad we tried it. Wings were crispy and full size - large. The order of four ribs was really five! The ribs were sticky St Louis style not like dry BBQ places nearby. Coleslaw was crunchy, beans super flavorful, and fries uniquely good. Not a bad dish in the bag. All the containers were tightly closed so there was no spilling nor seeping during the ride home.Service: Our order was ready when it was promised. Not much staff interaction but pleasant and professional.Ambiance: Clean, jazzy music, and well lighted. Welcoming, but otherwise quiet. Plenty of parking in front. We were the only customers mid-day. One table and a few chairs for those awaiting their order. Price was around $50 total. Not bad for two meals each and uniquely great food.

Thursday 12/14/2023I made a takeout order using my 10$ off doordash promo and got the half slab of ribs with Mac n cheese $24, the 3 pc catfish dinner with yams & collard greens 21$, house strawberry lemonade $4.50, and the cornbread $2.75. The food was supposed to be ready by 5:19 pm but wasn't ready until 5:36 pm.The half slab of ribs came with 8 ribs that were all pretty good and the bbq sauce on them was great & flavorful. The 3 pc catfish wasn't as good as I was expecting, it was okay but adding some hot sauce made it better.The Mac and cheese was decent but I expected better.The candy yams were great. It was very sweet and the taste was close to a dessert but I still enjoyed it.The collard greens were pretty good and the little meat pieces (I think turkey) definitely helped to make it even better.The cornbread was awful: extremely dry and wack corn bread.The house strawberry lemonade was decent but it didn't really have that strawberry lemonade taste that I was expecting, it more so tasted like a fruit punch.Overall, the food experience was pretty decent but the food is definitely overpriced in my opinion. I'd be open to returning and would recommend this spot but just be ready to SPEND.

Very good! I'm in town for work and wanted to grab some grub before I call it a night. Ordered the half slab of ribs with mac and cheese and also got an order of collard greens and candy yams. The sauce and flavor of the ribs let me know someone back has PhD in grill mastery lol. I liked all the sides. The collard greens being the top choice. Good flavor with out being too salty. The candy yams came in 2nd. Great taste wish it a little marshmallow like the pics on line but I might have just missed out due to come about 45 mins before they closed. The Mac and cheese was cool. I make mine with heavy cream, a small bit of sour cream and Dijon mustard so I'm use to it being a little bit more of a creamy texture but theirs was still on point. Not dry, cheesy and good taste. I will definitely be back my next trip in town. Keep up the good work! Yall got my support

I've been craving fried chicken and we found this spot on yelp. The chicken was decent. Growing up eating soul food, I can't say this was a favorite but for Montgomery County it's the best around here for sure. The mashed potatoes definitely taste like they are out the box and not from scratch. I'd definitely eat the chicken again if I'm desperately craving some chicken wings and don't feel like driving to the carryout in DC.

The price isn't bad and the food was seasoned well and satisfying. The order came with fries which did not stand a chance (they were good). The service was efficient and communicated well. I advise placing your order ahead of time. I will be going back.

Ribs were dry and extremely tough almost as if they were old and reheated , sucks because I've been here before and ribs were juicy, moist, and tender , most likely won't be returning because this the 2nd time I got dry ribs

I had already ordered and paid, they offered a substitute I wanted cornbread..Cornbread was not ready--Was told "I came too early" ..don't y'all prep before opening? I settled with the yams which are not my go to but they were good Customer service-eh must have been an off day..they did apologize. As a first time experience, I wasn't impressed. staff seemed overwhelmed and scattered. Arrived about 1 hr after opening. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to make a visit but if I were in the area I would maybe consider giving this place another try. I will say it did seem pretty clean in the lobby and behind the front counter. 3 stars bc of my experience
