Looking back over my reviews, I discovered I never wrote a review about one of my absolute favorite restaurants; shame on me. It came to me as I was ordering take-out yesterday. I've had the pleasure of dining in with family and friends. But most of my orders have been to go only because of scheduling. For the sake of this review, it was again to go. This time, I ordered General Tso's Chicken with Fried rice and a bowl of Wonton Soup. It was just what the doctor ordered (okay for me). Their portions are ALWAYS plentiful and well packaged, and the presentation of the food is excellent, but more so than anything else, it's so tasty and favorable. The staff is always courteous and friendly. I chuckle when I call to place an order, and they take my number. I must be flagged in their system because they always make me feel so welcomed: " Hello ____, what can I get for you today?" I appreciate the love. Some other dishes that I have personally eaten there are as follows: Egg Drop SoupSweet and Sour SoupSpring RollsB.B.Q Spare RibsFried Cheese RangoonCrispy Shredded BeefSeafood DelightCrispy Whole FishJumbo Shrimp with VegetablesShrimp in Lobster SauceOrange ChickenSauteed Assorted VegetablesCombination Fried RiceCombination Lo MeinMiso SoupEdamame Yes, I've tried everything under each menu except the Sushi. There is still time. However, I would want to dine in and sample this menu. The atmosphere is so inviting and conducive for a great dining. This is the place to go, and they have been tried, tested, and delighted by many. Join us for a wonderful dining experience.

Meiwah did an amazing job hosting our wedding reception, many thanks to the countless staff members who worked so hard on event day as well as the days leading up to it. Special thanks to Sally L, who was in charge and our point of contact. She updated us throughout the planning and was transparent about restaurant policies.Almost a year prior we were shopping for restaurants in the DMV area that offer Chinese-style banquets. We stopped by for lunch and were impressed by staff professionalism, good food (plus presentation) and beautiful decor. We expressed interest and were shown the private party room and prelim prices. Sally followed up with us via phone with additional info. Several weeks later we decided to book with Meiwah (the wedding date was still available). In the months following, they worked with us regarding menu (crafting a veganized version for certain tables), decor, parking, cocktail hour, and alcohol orders, ect. When things changed they adapted and accommodated. The restaurant also went through a renovation during that time and finished well before the wedding. The patio and dining room looked very modern, elegant and well lit.On reception day we were welcomed to a festive private party, where the usual white linens were swapped out for red and gold tablecloths/napkins. They added red roses for each table centerpiece, table assignments, and arranged our party favors perfectly. They threw in extras (sesame balls, cut up fruit, chocolates, almond cookies). More importantly each course in the banquet meal was excellent. The guests complimented and praised the food (Peking duck, lobster Cantonese, seafood soup, flounder, ect). Staff service was seamless (each course came out perfectly timed, plates and utensils were cleared in a timely manner, ect). Sally was present to tend to guest needs as well as help staff. Many thanks for making our wedding day such a memorable one, as well as going above and beyond to make sure everything needed was catered to.

Meiwah - Great Food, Greater Stories!Let me set the scene: I was headed to Meiwah for a meeting -- thinking it would be a typical dinner with some good food. Little did I know, I was in for so much more. The restaurant was buzzing, with the smell of sizzling spices in the air, and I started with a variety of dishes -- the kung pao chicken, Peking duck, and octopus, to name a few. Each dish was bursting with flavor; the kung pao chicken had that perfect mix of heat and crunch, the Peking duck was crispy on the outside and tender inside, and the octopus? Succulent and cooked to perfection. You could tell every dish was made with love and attention to detail. But what made this visit truly memorable was meeting the owner, Larry La. He stopped by our table, and we got to chatting. He's the kind of guy who makes you feel like you've known him forever, with stories that captivate you from the get-go. He told me about his journey from war-torn Vietnam, growing up in East Tennessee, and eventually taking a leap of faith to open a restaurant right in the heart of DC. Larry's story is so inspiring that he's written an autobiography called *"Square Moon: One Man's Journey from War-Torn Vietnam to DC's Hottest Kitchens"* -- a book I cannot wait to read. It's not every day that you get to experience a meal that's a culinary delight while also getting to know the story behind it -- straight from the man who lived it. Meiwah is more than just a restaurant; it's a blend of incredible food and rich history, a true hidden gem that serves not just flavors but experiences. If you're looking for a place that's full of heart and soul (and amazing food), make sure Meiwah is on your list. Trust me, it's a place you'll never forget.

Enjoyed the food from here. Nothing special but decent Chinese in the DMV. I had the chicken fried rice and general tsos. Both very taste and enough food for two with leftovers. I'll definitely be back.

I have been going to Meiwah for years, and they never disappoint! The food is always freshly prepared and flavorful. The ambiance and service are always good. And the Long Island Iced Tea is a legend on our household! It looks like they recently expanded their menu with new options, which is exciting as it gives me a reason to come back sooner and try something new, though I am a creature of habit and almost always order the same thing. Do yourself a favor and try the Flounder Duet - it is DELICIOUS and the presentation is flawless! It always gets the attention of anyone who can see it because it is a showstopper. The sweet and sour shrimp was classic and tasted good as well. If you're looking for a warm atmosphere with good food, look no further than Meiwah. I just wish they still had their downtown DC location because it was so convenient, but I will happily drive to Chevy Chase for my fix!

Ordered takeout from here because I had a bottle of wine at home I wanted to drink. I grew up in DC and was a customer of the owner's previous restaurant, City Lights of China. Ordered the General Tso's chicken, pork fried rice, spare ribs, shrimp/pork dumplings and whole fried fish. The whole fried fish and spare ribs were great. We weren't expecting a snapper as the fish so it was a nice surprise. Everything was super fresh and tasty and up to par with New York Chinese food. Quick service since the food was ready about 20 minutes after ordering on the phone.

My wife and I have a place a block and a half away from Meiwah. We have to check on my elderly father, who is still by himself in nearby Potomac; he might move in eventually. We have ordered from Meiwah. We will order again. They are reliable. That is important. They also deliver. I always feel guilty and lazy, since we could easily walk over there or one of us drive and the other hops out the vehicle. But that is a nice convenience. It is great if the weather is inclement. (The speed has been acceptable the few times we have used it. They come right up to the unit.)Everything is as expected. Chinese American food is not the same as Chinese food. It is related. But it is distinct, generally generic and not regional (there are, it is said, eight culinary traditions in the Middle Kingdom, itself a term that is translated poorly; it would be better as Central Kingdom, to communicate the concept that China, like other nations, perceived itself as being what everything else radiated outward from or rotated around as the sun to the planets; that is to recognize how alarming that is, albeit no different than Athens or Rome or Constantinople would have described itself during empire). It also has been modified to a palate that prefers lower ratings on the Scoville scale. This is exemplary Chinese American fare. It is not, if you are looking for what would be difficult to find anywhere in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the more specific, spicier cuisine available to diaspora communities. That's fine. The adaptation is to the marketplace. The last order we placed was for mapo tofu, which has no meat in their preparation, which is what we would have requested were it not the default; moo shu vegetables, which has no egg, which is too bad, prompting my wife to say we should get it with a protein next time; and pan fried noodles with seafood. We've had various other dishes. People we know have entertained there. They can accommodate a big party.

Near Friendship Heights - right on bus lines and parking options nearby... Take the elevator or stairs up to this lovely little Chinese food restaurant and enjoy the ambience, and the options for food and drink. We were there to reconnect as friends happening to be in the same town after decades apart - wanting a place to chat leisurely and also share a meal. The staff was helpful, patient, and polite - giving us ample time to decide on selections, and explaining subtle differences between plates. We also never felt rushed in finishing the meal and opening the table. The food was generally excellent and plentiful. We had shrimp fried rice and a couple of tofu options and spring rolls. The tofu and spring rolls were not the best I have ever tried, but they were tasty and we had no challenging consuming the shared meal. Oranges and fortune cookies were offered as we finally wrapped up. I would definitely enjoy another gathering here.

This is my favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Yes, it's a more expensive than a traditional Chinese take-out joint, but I don't think the owners/management ever expected to position themselves as direct competition to restaurants of that sort. The dining area is rather large and fitting for special occasions. I've hosted large group gatherings here on several times over the years. In each instance, the service was great, and the food was good. My favorite dish is the "Fried Jumbo Shrimp with Spiced Salt." I like to request that it be made extra spicy with no shell. It can be found on the "Chef's Specialties" section of the menu. The steamed pork dumplings on the appetizer menu is also a personal favorite. In addition to dine in, pick-up/take-out and delivery are also options.
