I love coming here for authentic Dominican food. I usually get the chicken mofongo and it's delicious! The service is always friendly and the restaurant is always clean. I would recommend visiting for a great food experience

Friday 9/27/2024I first visited this spot nearly 2 years ago with my dad but I didn't remember much from the experience. I had saw a TikTok from a foodie influencer (big schlim) who went here and decided that I wanted to try it again but for real this time.I made an order in person for takeout and got: pork chimi (pulled pork sandwich) with sweet plantains $10.50, pernil (Dominican pulled pork) bandera with sweet plantains and Moro de gandules (rice & peas) $14.75, chicharron de pollo (fried chicken) with arroz blanco (white rice & pinto beans) and boiled yuca $15.75, chicken empanada $3, and beef empanada $3.The service was nice and friendly. I wanted to get the mofongo but they didn't have any at the time of my visit. Also I saw ALOT of reviews praising this spot for their generous portions but I disagree. You get a good portion of the rice but the side and meat is quite limited. - Both The chicken empanada and beef empanada were decent but I liked the beef empanada a bit more.- The pernil (Dominican pulled pork) was solid but I've had better. Some of the pieces were dry and some were what I kinda expected. Also it was a lot better when paired with a sauce (I used bbq sauce and it was good).- The Chicharron de pollo (fried chicken) was good but I expected more in terms of the portions. - The Arroz blanco (white rice & pinto beans) and Moro de gandules (rice with pigeon peas) were both alright.- The boiled yuca was okay but then again I've never been a big fan of boiled yuca.- The Sweet plantains were made well and were very good.- The pork chimi (pulled pork sandwich) was very good and was easily my favorite item. They use ciabatta bread to pair with the delicious & juicy pulled pork.Overall, this was a solid Dominican food experience that I would come back to and recommend (try that pork chimi). The limiting portions for the side and meat are what hold this spot back from being a 5 star in my eyes.

This place never disappoints! The food is authentic and the best Dominican food in the DMV. In my opinion. I have had several different dishes and I'm always satisfied. Not to mention the portions are enough to have leftovers. The ladies are always pleasant and there is tons of parking. Te amo Mechos‼

4/13/24Our last day in DC, and we had to get the hubby his native food It's a big space in a shopping mallYou order and take the food to a table. Inside or outside.Hubby wanted the Tres Golpes, but they were out of eggs, so hubby got extra cheese. We can't figure out how they did it, but the cheese was so soft and melty. Usually, it's a little gummy. And the mangu was so soft and buttery. Since it was close to lunch, I opted for the Chuleta y Arroz con Gandules. Which was good. They don't serve as much food as the restaurants in NY/NJ. I had no leftovers.

Mecho's has been on my list for a little while. I'm in the shopping center from time to time so I finally decided to try over the weekend. They had beautiful holiday decor throughout, a full service bar, and plenty of seating. I couldn't stay so I was placing an order to go.The line wasn't long when I arrived but it moved pretty slow. They were handling customers in line and delivery and pick up orders simultaneously so they could benefit from a better system to keep things moving smoothly. I also wish they had labels for the food to make ordering a little simpler because I had a few questions about what's what. I ordered the yellow rice and peas, pinto beans, mixed vegetables, and stewed chicken. The portion sizes were nice. There was more rice in the plate than anything else but it tasted good. I also ordered the flan and Dominican cake. I didn't really like either. The cake had a decent flavor profile but the actual cake was hard and too spongy. While I was there, a lot of people ordered the soup. It looked delicious so I want to go back and try it one day.

Food is fine. Typically get stewed beef or pollo guisado, tostones, and yellow rice with black beans. Overall I'd say buffet quality in terms of seasoning and flavor - middle of the lane comfort food. Reliable, doesn't make a statement, but doesn't try to either. I rate at 3 stars because it can be oddly unreliable. Sometimes you go in and they're just out of basic things, like no chicken of any kind or no black beans. This isn't a place that serves up a huge variety of things, it's surprising how they can run out of basics.

I have been seeing this neighborhood gem for a while so I decided to stop by for some shrimp mofongo. I hopped in and the wait was not long but people were definitely rolling in for a Friday night dinner. The staff was kind and the music was great! My mofongo took about 20 minutes. I was not very impressed with the mofongo or Tamarind (so I took away 2 stars) but I will be back to support this local business and try something else!

This was my family's 1st time trying Mecho's Dominican Kitchen. I like the statue at the entrance and the artwork on the walls. It's a bright and welcoming place. It took us a while to decide what we wanted because the servers didn't offer any suggestions, any references to the most popular items, or anything. They stood there having a conversation in español. We.moved aside to allow other customers to go because they knew what they wanted. We stood looking at the menu for a total of 10 minutes before deciding to order the "Build Your Own." I ordered chicken with rice and beans, and cabbage / mixed vegetables. My family followed suit ordering the same thing I got and they added 1 slice of tres leches cake and 1 slice of Dominican Cake. The food was alright. The rice and beans tasted closely like Jamaican / Caribbean Rice and Peas. The vegetables could use more seasoning. They were bland. I had to season it at home. Although the slices of cakes belonged to my husband and daughter, I took a taste to be able to write this review. The tres leches cake was magnificent! This cake by far has beat out all the others I've tried over the years that have disappointed me repeatedly. I had given up on finding a good tres leches cake. My husband ate half and gave me the other half. The Dominican cake was dry. I mean super DRY. That single piece had me almost choking. I don't recommend it. Overall this place is a 4 Stars.

I hadn't been there for about a year. I've ordered items online since then but didn't review. But I was in the neighborhood yesterday so I went in. This is a happy place as soon as you walk in. The music is so lively and it puts you right in the mood! The beautiful lady who helped me was so nice and so helpful! I'm apologizing because I said I'd remember how to spell her name but I don't. I think it was Neishka. She helped me to choose what I wanted and it was delicious. I got the rice with pigeon peas, oxtails, and mangu. I recommend the place highly.

It was near Costco so that's good but bad because of traffic.Hadn't really had Dominican good before but the sandwiches were tasty. The help really seemed to be bothered by the customers there and was not in the mood to help anyone. Most of the people there seemed to be locals and everyone was happy with the food.Place was nice and clean. Most of the food was precooked and ready to serve.
