If you're a food lover, this place is basically paradise! It's cozy--just the right size to feel intimate without playing elbow wars with your neighbor. Spotless and neat, which is always a win. The servers? They were on it, like psychic ninjas who knew when I needed a refill before I did. Now, let's talk about the food. Oh my, the food! Delicious doesn't even begin to cover it. My only problem? My stomach has a size limit. I couldn't devour everything I wanted in one sitting, so obviously, I'll have to come back for round two...or three.

I tried the lunch special at Matsui Japanese Sushi & Ramen and found it to be a great deal for the price. The sushi was decent--nothing extraordinary, but fresh and satisfying. For the value, it's hard to beat! Perfect for a quick, budget-friendly lunch spot.Next time I go, I will want to try more of their higher-quality sushi!

About a 2.5: Matsui is a Korean-owned Japanese restaurant that offers sushi, Japanese and Korean-infused entrees, as well as ramen. We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered:+Toro nigiri - comes with 2 pieces; these could have been more fresh as it had a slight fishy taste to them+Sake Belly nigiri - comes with 2 pieces; these were salmon belly, and these were actually pretty tasty+a Salmon & Sushi Box - a bento box that consisted of salmon teriyaki, 6 pieces of California roll, tuna/salmon/white tuna/shrimp nigiri, rice, and salad; the menu stated that miso soup was supposed to be provided, but we never received one; the salmon was super dry and also had a slight fishy taste to it; the nigiri were forgettable+Volcano Ramen - a chicken-based broth with supposedly 'extra spicy miso', spicy chicken, bok choy, corn, bean sprouts, fish cake, and a halved egg; the broth itself was lukewarm, while the noodles (which were way overcooked) were piping hot; the 'spicy chicken' tasted like 'jaeyuk chicken', so there was no spiciness to it; our server stated that it was more than Thai spicy, and we believed her; however, there was hardly any heat to it... I stated that her Thai card should be taken away immediately!Service was friendly, and you could tell that this place seems to be a favorite spot for the locals; while we were one of the two parties initially, there were more and more groups coming in in the hour.Parking is available in the shared plaza lot, but can be filled up quickly.+friendly service+underwhelming nigiris+lukewarm ramen broths+'spice levels' are extremely debatable+parking available in the shared plaza lot

Matsui was highly recommended yet it was not the finest sushi experience I ever had. Customer service on our first visit varied depending on who was serving us. The male server who brought our appetizer was very courteous and friendly and corrected an error made by the server who took our orders. My husband was not thrilled at the tough texture of his chicken in his meal and didn't like how the female server disregarded me and did not put in the order for my appetizer but she did for his appetizer. He didn't like it when we were not asked if we wanted a refill of our drinks. He does not want to come back to Matsui and would prefer Chinese takeout from another establishment. He also thought Matsui was overpriced compared to the many Japanese restaurants we went to - with better service and food. Regardless of the treatment and his complaints, he did give a 20% tip and kept his complaints private. I liked my sushi and how efficient the sushi chefs were. The servers were polite. One of them was forgetful but it didn't bother me. As for my husband's complaints and his complaint of how I was treated by a server, it didn't upset me, and she was not rude to me - just forgetful. I told him that I didn't take it personally and that when he isn't around me females are not very nice to me or just very rude out of pettiness ( at least the servers were polite at Matsui). I was going to give it 3.7 stars and round it off to 4 stars. Yet, due to his complaints and refusal to ever go back to Matsui, I lowered my rating to 3 stars. I have to consider his opinions and thoughts. His views matter to me deeply, even though, I had no complaints except that my husband was unhappy with the food & service and that the server forgot to put in my appetizer order and other things I requested.

We had dinner at Matsui for the first time and I was wowed by how great the sushi is here. I didn't know what to order, so I opted for the sushi dinner, which was a mix of different nigiri. Everything was excellent, especially the hamachi, salmon, ikura, and tuna. In fact, I am usually not thrilled with tuna unless it is blue fin, or toro, but the tuna here was super fresh and a splendid cut that was simply delicious. I noticed the table beside me order the sushi boat, which I was very intrigued by and even tempted to invite some friends to next time just so we could order it.The service was very friendly and I loved the fact that the restaurant seemed to be busy with many locals and regulars who know exactly what's best to order. We will definitely be coming back soon, and I hope to try the sushi boat next time!

So far, they are my favorite sushi restaurant in the DMV. The sushi is always fresh, and their sake belly (salmon belly) is the best in the area. Their karage chicken is delicious too; though, I wish they were crispier. Customer service is always great.

Service here is horrible. Here's why. Waitress didn't check on us for drink refills, which is just another order of a canned drink and another fee of $3.00 per can. One waitress was outside somewhere and the other on her phone behind bar. Waitress took four trips to get proper takeout containers. Food wasn't the best. Simple chicken fried rice. Rice was excellent with great flavoring, but chicken chunks were tough. We paid more here than most places and not worth it. We recommend Chef Huang's, Alexandria VA. Excellent service, excellent taste, fast service, and friendly ambiance.

Amazing service. Food was excellent as well. A little bit on the pricey side but it was worth it. Servings were almost good for 2. Kid-friendly so that was a plus!
