Solid Chinese takeout and carry out food in the downtown Silver Spring area! Did takeout from this restaurant the other for a late lunch and glad I did. The food was prepared fresh and delicious. I ordered a General Tso's Lunch Special and a Sweet n' Sour Soup. All were prepared perfect and tasted excellent. Food was ordered and ready right on time; roughly 10 minutes from the time I walked in and placed the order. Not sure with what the food would look like as this was my first time coming here, I was in for a pleasant surprise. The General Tso's Chicken was still piping hot even after driving back home for about 15 minutes. And, most of all not soggy or mushy!.... something I can't stand when ordering takeout!! The plate and servings were hefty and quite generous. The chicken was a mixed between white and dark meat. It was seasoned just right and so crispy, even after sitting in the container for my drive back home. The General Tso sauce was very tasty as well. My only gripe is that the dish comes with fried rice and I am not sure with what's up with most of the carryouts around the DMV, but a lot of them served this yellow - orangish fried rice that is not the most appealing to me, but I must honestly admit....it was dang good. Lol. I prefer a more wok-charred, brown fried rice over the neon fried rice served here and other places around the DMV. The Hot n' Sour soup gets a thumbs-up and good marks from my end. It was tangy, spicy, and sweet all roll into one. A delicious bowl of tofu, mushrooms, tamarind, and spices that aim to please.In all, Mandarin Restaurant is a solid option when in the Downtown Silver Spring Area and you are looking for something good to eat. The owner was very pleasant and he greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. His wife was very friendly as well and made sure I had all the proper fixings I needed to complete my dish; including my request for extra soy sauce and hot chili oil which complimented and elevated both dishes very well. If it wasn't for the neon orange looking fried rice, I probably would've given this place five stars as a first impression. Also, they could've served more broccoli in the dish than the two pieces that I received Lol -- see pic as receipts. The restaurant itself has limited seating but it appeared to be a popular takeout service with most that came in and patroned the place. A decent winner in my book and will definitely be back to try out other dishes.

Placed a to go pickup order for general tso chicken for my niece and pad thai for myself. Unfortunately we were both disappointed in our meals. I only took a photo of my shrimp pad thai, didn't get one of her chicken. The pad thai looks nothing like any pas thai I've ever had, the sauce, flavor and color was all wrong, and they definitely didn't use rice noodles...they were very soggy. I decided to try this place hoping it would be better than my regular takeout place, but it wasn't, and I definitely wouldn't order from here again.

Food was ok. The shrimp toast were ok, and felt like they were cooked in old oil. I didn't care for the sauce on the general tso's wings. I did like the chicken and garlic sauce - good flavor and large potion. The lo mein had an odd flavor but the noodles were cooked well.

One thing about reviews, if things are 3.5 or less? Better believe that things are bad even if it's good that 1st time you go! I know previously I gave them a good review after first time trying them, unfortunately they've been bad after like the 3rd or 4th time. Rice completely flavorless, chicken smaller and smaller and tastes like it's been cooked in old grease each time, even looks like it with grease spots here and there on them and when using their delivery service, I noticed that they're always missing things from the notes or simple things like forks. The guy that runs the place is very nice but due to quality of the food I won't be ordering from them anymore. I will be going back to new century carryout, sadly I live a bit further from there now of days.

My delivery was late- it took an hour and a half instead of the 45 minutes they initially gave me. I paid online and I even tipped and paid a delivery fee. My food was cold. The bag was missing the egg rolls and dessert I already paid for. I feel the restaurant didn't care because I had already paid. I am not even going to complain directly to them - I just want them to know that I will never go back. Very icky place
