Went for lunch, it was busy but not where reservations were a must but towards the end of lunch hour it was busy. There is free parking around the building. Food was great! I only took 1 star off cause dishes on our table. We stacked them nicely at the end for pick up and there were still there until the end. Even when we ordered dessert. 1 side got picked up after dessert arrived, dishes from the other side were not. We ordered a bunch of stuff so it would've been nice to have the whole table cleared for room.Foods was favorable and we ordered a bunch of food to share. It was filling. Singapore noodles, hand pull noodles, pork soup dumplings, steamed and fried dumplings, ganghood fried chicken, scallion bubble pancake, bakes egg yolk pineapple bun. Soup dumplings soup had so much flavor, steamed dumpling were great even the sauce ( which wasnt even needed). Pineapples bun was great, warm, and not sweet. I don't have a thing badly to say about the food.

Mama Chang came recommended by a friend who lives in the area, and did not disappoint! Expect flavors of Hunan, Szechuan, Hubei, and homestyle Chinese cooking. Everything is shareable, so I recommend ordering from different parts of the menu. Our server Tommy was a delight and was very accommodating when I asked for no Sichuan "numbing" peppers in the dishes. Everything we ordered was fresh and extremely flavorful. Also, I highly recommend making a reservation. This place is a gem and got very crowded after 5pm on a Sunday. Enjoy!

Mama Chang is one of our go-to spots for delicious and flavorful Chinese food. Some of our must-order dishes include the crispy cauliflower, which is perfectly seasoned and addictively crunchy, and the scallion pancake with curry dipping sauce, which is fun to eat and pairs so well with the rich, aromatic curry. The fish and duck are also standouts--tender, well-prepared, and packed with bold flavors. We also love the lamb, which is always cooked to perfection and full of fragrant spices. What's great about Mama Chang is that their menu offers a bit of everything for everyone, from small plates and dim sum to comforting soups and their signature Peking duck. Whether you're in the mood for a quick bite or a full feast, there's always something delicious to try.The restaurant has a modern yet cozy atmosphere, making it a great place for both casual meals and special occasions. Service is efficient, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Parking is convenient with plenty of spots available, which makes dining here hassle-free.Overall, Mama Chang delivers on both taste and experience, and we always look forward to coming back!

Second Chang restaurant I've been to, first time at Mama Chang. First noticeable between this spot and the other spot in Crystal City is that there is ample ground level parking. Second, the prices are higher - but for a reason. NiHao is more "tapas" / small-plate concept, Mama Chang is more family style, where you order for the whole table to share. The one popular dish they both do? Bubble Scallion pancake - popping it is an experience! Unfortunately I cannot partake in the eating part as it has gluten, but I hear it's super delicious with the sauce on the side which almost resembles the sauce from roti canai. Besides that, we got a half Chang's roast duck, Singapore rice noodles, fried flounder in scoop, and cumin spicy lamb shank. Service was pretty fast for dinner time, we were so surprised! The Chang's roast duck was phenomenal with the plum sauce, the Singaporean noodles were filling, and the spicy lamb shank had a strong sichuan flavor. My favorite was the fried flounder with the sweet and sour sauce and shreds of ginger - so delicious with white rice on the side!! Highly recommend Mama Chang for family style Chinese / Sichuan style food. Come hungry with a group, leave happy (with a not so damaged wallet haha - it's affordable as long as you share!)

This has been one of my most wanted to try places for years. We reserved a table for a birthday celebration, party of 10 and was seated in the private dining room, far quieter even with all 4 tables filled, than the main dining room. There were such a variety of items to choose from the menu and seasonal menu In addition to the roast duck, the deep fried cauliflower, and the mala hot pot were in my top three dishes we tried. The Grandma Sizzling Pork Belly was a let down as the pork belly was soft and had a soggy texture rather than the sizzled char I was expecting based on the name. The food came out fast and service was exceptional.

We reserved at Mama Changs for my husband's birthday dinner at his request. We were there for lunch and dimsum. No carts, but a separate menu. It was excellent and I highly recommend. Do reserve in advance. Service was great as the ambiance is modern and fresh. This was a mid December 2024 visit. We are becoming regulars, it seems. Great place. Happy they are nearby!

Having had dim sum for a while and I love dim sum growing up. The ambience is like a standard restaurant rather than any classic Chinese one. I am ok with that the service is also good. Enough staff at least.I only had dim sum there and I can day that it is acceptable and better than most places in DC. Still a bit off from what I call great dim sum place though.Shrimp dumpling is a classic dim sum and it is pretty good. Feel classic.Turnip cake - taste ok but a bit too soft, under pan fried but somehow oilyEgg tart - the weakest of all but still ok. Would go to Fortune Grocery at Eden center to get a good one.

Great spot in Fairfax for Chinese cuisine. I've been multiple times and tried different dishes, my fav is the beef chow fun and the tofu/fish clay pot dish. There's always a little bit of a wait when I go, but no more than 15-20 minutes. My parents are a big fan of this place as well.

I am absolutely in love with Mama Chang and jump at the chance to come back anytime I can!The menu is vast and diverse with a myriad of authentic Chinese flavors, heats, and cold and hot dishes. In addition to their regular menu they offer a dim sum menu and a rotating seasonal menu that has almost as many items on it as their regular menu.If I could recommend one dish that you must order on your first visit it'd be the Ganghood Fried Chicken. Several pieces of boneless, dark meat chicken are battered and fried and topped with chili spice, jalapenos, red chilis, and scallions. It is perfection. The service is quick and attentive. The food comes out as it's ready, so don't be surprised if one thing comes out quicker than another if you're ordering with an appetizer-then-main mindset.Mama Chang is great for couples but excels for larger parties 3+. The only reason I leave Mama Chang upset is only because I could not try more of their menu due to my party's size. All of their dishes are perfect for sharing family style, so come hungry and come with friends!

We had a group dinner here, and it was fantastic! The Peking duck was a huge hit, and coconut pudding was perfect way to end the meal. The staff handled our big group like pros, and everything came out quickly. Highly recommend for group gatherings
