Always go for the combo platter. It will always leave you full.

I was really excited to try and find some good Chinese food in my new neighborhood. This, however, is not it.I was not swayed by the fact that they do both Chinese and Mexican (I've been to places like that before that have been killer). The takeout side is really no more than an empty store w/ a counter at the back and some fridges on the side. I placed my order and paid. Wait time was about 15 minutes. The woman behind the counter was on the phone w/ someone the entire time I ordered/paid/waited for my food. Once it came and I asked for hot mustard it literally took me waving at her for her to notice that I was still there. As for the food, I got chicken fried rice, crab rangoons, and won ton soup- my staple order. The soup was bland and while the dough of the won ton was good, there was not much filling and the filling that was there was unseasoned. The rice, again bland. The rangoons were the biggest disappointment though. Overly doughy w/ a ratio of about 90/10 cream cheese/crab.Even though I can walk here, I won't be ordering from here again.

Interesting restaurant where you can get anything you want in terms of americanized asian to el salvadorian/mexican/(insert other hispanic place here). However, dont' mistake this place for a fusion restaurant either - it definitely does not fall into that category since nothing gets fused together. Didn't know what to order off the hispanic menu - tried some beef and chicken dish that sounded some what decent. Heard the food was ok. Wasn't a huge fan of their fried plantains - they weren't quite ripe enough for me - aka not sweet enough. Singapore noodle was ok, good portion, but not spiced well to my taste. I guess its one of those places that has a good variety of food, but not really great at any one particular thing.

I was driving around and in the mood for a General Tso's combo. Figured I'd try a new place today, and this one caught my eye. I stopped in their carryout storefront, and ordered a combo, extra spicy. I am pleased to report it was DELICIOUS! Definitely one of the best in the area. The chicken was just sweet enough, and the fried rice was really spectacular, made with a lot of egg. The egg roll was dry, but that was remedied with the addition of some soy and chili sauce. All in all, highly recommended. I'll definitely be going back to try more of their menu!

So I must have been passing this place for 20 years, and I never succeeded in getting my spouse to try it. Her concern: What kind of restaurant could possibly do Chinese AND Salvadoran? Well, I agree that concept is a bit weird, but I was willing. But lo these many years, no dice on her side. Anyway, as my daughter and I were gassing up the car next door at the Shell station yesterday, we were positively loving the aroma that was clearly coming from New Moon/Luna Nueva. After topping off the tank, we went in to get carryout menus. I make "menus" plural because they have two separate brochures for the Chinese and Salvadoran cuisines, but I'm presuming you could order Moo Goo Gai Pan along with your beef enchiladas.Anyway, Adventurous Daughter was on me all day yesterday to order from there--and she had already eaten--and we finally did today. As a test of any new Chinese place, we got sweet and sour chicken, beef fried rice, and egg rolls. I figure that if any place can't do those basics well, you might as well not venture further to the exotic items on the menu. But we were pleasantly surprised. It compared quite well to our favorite Chinese carryout, Chef Express in west Falls Church. The sweet and sour chicken came in a generous portion and was separated from the pineapple and vegetables, keeping it crispy and crunchy. The egg rolls were substantial and hearty. The beef fried rice was solid--importantly, lots of good beef. And it was ready in the ten minutes promised. With good prices, too: we got that bag of goodness for $18.70, including Falls Church's obnoxious 10 percent meals/ convenience-user-fee-tax. Finally, it's clear that Asians and Hispanics work there, so I could indeed see how they could pull off both cuisines. We'll be back to try more items. And to that other poster who wanted an Asian/Salvadoran "fusion"--huh? Let's just enjoy each cuisine done well, k?

I've lived in Northern VA my whole life, and my job lets me go all over the DMV area. I've gone to a lot of Chinese food hole in the wall places, and believe me when I tell you: no place, and I mean NO PLACE can make General Tso's chicken like New Moon can. Definitely recommend for all General Tso's chicken lovers.

We love New Moon. The kids love chicken with broccoli, the lomein is fabulous, and they make me kung pao tofu which is everyone's favorite -- with peanuts and peppers, its delicious. This is the best Chinese food in the area. Hands down. We have been ordering take out and carryout for years and have no plans to stop.

Visiting the DMV on business and have ordered delivery from New Moon (the Chinese half of Luna Nueva) twice now. Kung pao chicken was excellent, chicken with garlic sauce was different than I expected but delicious and the fried rice is the best I've ever had. Egg rolls and soup were not my favorite. Friendly folks and quick delivery.

I come here every time I'm back in Falls Church. I tell myself I'll never come back but when you're hungry and NoVA traffic is terrible, I resort to coming to this hole in the wall. Mexican and Chinese food are blah...but it's either that or some Vietnamese joint down the road.Yes, I will grudgingly come back one day a few years from now on my next voyage through Falls Church.

I get takeout/delivery every so often from here and the food is generally fine; not *good* Chinese or Salvadoran, but cheap and good enough for a quick bite on the go. Today was the first time I ate on the restaurant side, and I can safely say that I will not be spending money at Luna Nueva/New Moon again. The food was... fine, and came out in good time. Otherwise, the service was exceptionally bad. There were a lot of little things, like the waitress weirdly only ever talking to my friend and not to me (we're both women, so it's not even like it was a sexism thing?), but this took the cake:The staff turned on the jukebox/music player around the time we started eating and were playing music at a comfortable if high volume. I have a condition called hyperacusis, where my ears are more sensitive than normal and loud sounds can cause me pain. This was at the upper end of my comfort level and I think for most people on the louder side of normal. Fine. Towards the end of the meal, they suddenly raised the volume to an unbearable level -- loud enough that even my friend, who hears normally, was openly wincing. I turned and tried to get the waitress's attention; when that didn't work (because she was the one at the machine and was still picking out her playlist), I called, "Excuse me, can you please turn that down?" and gestured, while covering my worse ear. She turned the music down, but not without openly rolling her eyes and tossing her hair at me.When she came back to clear the table, I tried to explain what had happened and why the music was a problem. She smirked at me and walked away mid-explanation! Mid-sentence! No one else on the staff said anything to her or to us, and you can bet we got the hell out of there quickly and without leaving a tip. There's better Chinese AND Salvadoran in the area. The food doesn't make it worth paying them to hire people like that.

Chinese food -- It seems like everyone has a favorite and never shall two intersect. After my last favorite local delivery place for Chinese went out of business, we tried a string of places in the Seven Corners area. None caught our eye. Finally we tried New Moon.We found their menu on menupages.com and placed a pick up order. The order was ready within 20 minutes. My husband said that it was an odd little place serving both Chinese and El Salvadorian food.We loved everything we ordered - steamed dumplings, egg fu yung, combo fried rice, and sesame chicken. The portions were generous and the price was reasonable. They will also do delivery in our area. Yes, maybe this is all Americanized Chinese food but what else do you really want in quick and cheap delivery Chinese? So if you are looking for more authentic Chinese food, look elsewhere. But for those nights when a won-ton is a must, give New Moon a call.
