Lopos Crab Shack

Every year Mother's Day brings up the same question: do we eat in or out? And if the former, what will require the least amount of cooking and easiest cleanup? The answer, this year: a crab feast from Lopos Crab Shack consisting of:4 lbs of Alaska king crab legs1/2 dozen XL blue crabs1/2 dozen medium blue crabs 2 lbs of steamed shrimp Both the crabs and crab legs were wonderfully meaty and sweet - and as many here have noted - more affordable and of better quality than the more famous variety from the Wharf. A few tips for ordering:- Call ahead (preferably the day before) to place your order. They do sell out. - Bring cash to pay for your order. If you don't carry cash (and many of us don't), they also accept Venmo.- Pair your crabs with store-bought hush puppies a homemade potato and andouille sausage boil. It's a must.We've found our crab shack. Who knew it would be trailer sitting in the parking lot of a gas station? :)

Disclaimer - I grew up catching and steaming our own crabs for years. At 17, I worked at a crab house in Baltimore, now Skipjacks. Say all that because I'm particular about my crabs. Overall rating, not bad for Virginia. Despite calling ahead, crabs were keep in warmer and not fresh out of steamer (person ahead of me seemed to get the fresh steamed ones - have theories about why) not sure how long they were in warmer, but texture of meat indicates maybe a little too long. The seasoning wasn't bad, but would prefer less - steamed with seasoning and then given an extra scoop in the bag - it was very salty! I never heard of the brand they use but, again, I'm use to a proprietary mix - could be okay, just suggest avoid the extra scoop! Size/weight for price was reasonable, especially for time of year. If you can't get to Ocean City or Baltimore, this is a decent option, just make sure they are steamed while you wait and get extra seasoning on the side!

Best crabs I've had in years!This is a little food truck on the side of the road that is doing nothing but passing paper bags of steamed crabs to hungry customers. It is a cash only business. Not cheap, but AMAZING!

Got a dozen and a half today. Crabs are nice for mediums and full. Cooked perfectly! Don't sleep on Lopo's Crab Shack. You can call ahead and place an order as well. Great friendly staff. Check it out when you are in the mood for blue crabs like I am. Every weekend

At first I thought these crabs were pricey (and maybe they are). But they are fairly priced and saves me the trip of driving all the way to DC or MD (which I hate). We've ordered two times already this summer form the truck. They always tossed in extras and their crabs are sooo big and meaty! It is funny. When we used to get crabs from the warf, they wouldn't be as big and all the legs would fall off the crabs in the bags. These are cooked so nicely and handled with care. When we took them out or the bag, everything was in tact and cooked perfectly. And seasoned perfectly! So glad to have this truck close by.

Great crabs, nice and heavy. Easy to pre order and pick up. Family loved it and we are very specific about our crabs.

WOW... very unassuming, and now days that's where a lot of the not just good but GREAT places to get delicious food from. An as most here have mentioned 90% of the crabs are intact. No need to drive to MD anymore for my wifes crab craving. We also got shrimp and that was AMAZING too!

I feel like this place would've been five stars, if the crabs were clean. Great local place to order maryland style blue crabs. We snagged an order of a dozen XL make crabs for $100 including tax (cash only). Crabs were meaty and tender, but definitely not cleaned. Had to scrub off the dirt and seaweed attached to it. We didn't eat all the crabs and instead spent a few hours pulling all the meat out so we could make crab cakes for the next day. I'll probably try them again vs my usual place in silver spring.

Awesome heavy crabs. Shrimp was huge as well! Plus, very nice and helpful guys the day we visited
