La Muterita

Truly fantastic food. My family and I try to get something totally new every few weeks, and somehow had never had Guatemalan food. I actually stumbled upon La Muterita completely by chance (inside La Union Mall on the 3rd (?) floor, I think, just up the stairs). The meats are EXCELLENT and everything else is great, too, all very affordable and the young woman at the counter was very nice. We got Sopa de Gallina, Garnachas (so good), the big Churrasco Guatemalteco (all the meats), Chuchitos (like tamales) and an extra order of Carne Asada. Everything was great, and we tried a lot of included sides-- a very chunky guacamole, beans, tortillas, rice, macaroni salad (that was a little bland IMO, but the only thing I wouldn't rush to get again). I didn't even get a chance to try any paletas, etc., but I will when I return! Most things weren't really spicy at all-- although grilled chilis were included on the side-- but I admit I don't know if that's more of a Guatemalan thing or more of a "we're obviously making this for a white lady" kind of thing. If it's the latter, I might ask for more spice next time-- but it doesn't need it, and my kid wouldn't be able to handle it, so it worked out great anyway. For sure give La Muterita a go! I think when my family is craving Central American food that's not specifically pupusas, this will be our new go-to.

We hired La Muterita to cater our cocktail hour for our wedding on 10/4/24. We wanted traditional and authentic Guatemalan food as our appetizers, as my husband is Guatemalan. La Muterita went above and beyond our expectations. Diane was the one who helped us with the catering. She took a lot of time to talk with us and answer our questions. She paid attention to detail and modified the menu to our needs. She provided a tasting of all of our menu options, and everything was delicious! We were so impressed by the garnachas, the taquitos, the tostadas, the mini chuchitos, and the rellenitos. The presentation on the plates was so beautiful as well. On the wedding day, they came on time and created a beautiful display, including traditional Guatemalan textiles. The service for our guests was professional and quick. Everyone was raving about how great the food was. We couldn't be happier with our choice to hire La Muterita for our special day. They were AMAZING. We highly recommend working with them for any event in which you may need catering.
