I came here for brunch with a friend in celebration of Absinthe Day. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The pictures you will capture here alone are worth the visit but the food is just as phenomenal. I had such an incredible time. Between the amazing food, the warm hospitality, as well as the beautiful ambiance. I am already looking forward to coming back.I especially wanted to give credit to the managers Carrie & Gustavo and our waitress Ligiya, they were phenomenal and went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met.Food: we started with the bottomless mimosas for brunch and paired it with Escargot which was cooked to perfection in a garlic buttery sauce with a hint taste of Parmesan. For this to be our first time eating it, it was so delightful, easy on the palate & I would be open to trying again. We also had the way carpaccio which melts in your mouth like butter.Main course- my friend had the scallops which were seasoned & cooked to perfection & were very decent sized. I had the steak frites which was slightly overcooked (I wanted medium rare) but it had the most amazing flavor & paired well with the fries.Dessert- my friend had caramel brûlée which was her first time. She said it was the best first experience she's had, the right amount of crisp on top and creamy sweet center. I had the salted Carmel cheesecake which is pretty popular here. I liked it because it surprisingly wasn't too sweet.I can't wait to return and check out their dinner menu and cocktails but already they have won me over as a fan

Washington D.C. is a town that knows a thing or two about steak. All of these political power players--they all want their meat cooked to perfection, served in a place that whispers opulence and excess. So, when you walk into La Grande Boucherie, nestled inside a stunning Art Deco building that once housed a bank, you might think you've struck gold. The space is breathtaking. High ceilings, gilded accents, the kind of lighting that makes everyone look just a little more interesting. The service? Respectable. Attentive, competent--no major complaints. Even the restrooms are very well done, which, in a town like this, oddly matters. And yet, none of it can save the food. Because here's the thing--if you're going to be a French steakhouse in Washington D.C., you better be goddamn good. And this? This is middling at best. The first red flag arrived with the cocktail shrimp--uninspired, barely a step up from what you'd find in the freezer section at Costco. You can find better shrimp cocktails in Indianapolis, and that's saying something. Then came the steak -- didn't order the priciest cut, but a New York strip at a place like this should still knock your socks off. Instead, it tasted like it belonged in a mid-tier diner--decent, but forgettable. Dessert followed suit: pistachio ice cream that might as well have been scooped from a supermarket tub, and a crème brûlée that lacked the contrast of a truly hard shell over silky custard. It's an "just okay" meal. It's just not good enough to justify the rococo venue. A steakhouse should leave you reeling from the sheer indulgence, already planning your next visit before you even pay the check. In D.C., there are plenty of places that understand this. La Grande Boucherie is not one of them. Recommend skipping it.

Really great spot for dinner or happy hour. The interior is absolutely gorgeous and photographic. Just totally massive and unlike anywhere else in DC and the menu is pretty substantial! It's French food, so lots of classic options on the menu like escargot and steak frites. When my friend and I came for dinner, we ordered the escargot, carpaccio, steak frites and the scallops. The escargot was pretty good, really buttery. The carpaccio was just okay and I probably wouldn't order it again. I liked the steak frites a lot though the steak was a little small. My friend said she loved her scallops! Cocktails and mocktails are also really good. Love the La Vie En Rose! Overall, I will always come here because of the ambiance and the food is solid. Service is awesome too!

Parking can be a little difficult to find but they do have several garages around the area. We arrived way earlier than our reservation and had asked if there was a possibility to be sat earlier. She said she had checked us in and that she would find us at the bar if there was anything that showed up sooner. We were here on a Wednesday night around 6:00 PM, and the place was packed already. There was live jazz music, and we found 2 seats at the bar at the end on the main floor. We ordered some draft lagers (Kronenbourg 1664). It was very refreshing, light and easy to drink. The bartender was attentive. We waited out the extra hour and 15 minutes at the bar before going back downstairs to ask if the table was ready. We were asked to go back up the stairs and wait and someone would take us to our table. We were escorted upstairs to the 3rd floor at one of the tables overlooking the main floor. The jazz music and the restaurant was overall pretty loud and even when the jazz music had ended, the music that they played after was still quite loud. Our server was pretty attentive at first but I think as the restaurant got busy, the service kind of tapered off a little. We ordered the Waygu Carpaccio and the Mousse De Foie Gras. For our drinks, we started off with the Harvest Moon 75 Cocktail and my friend ordered a standard Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned was pretty good and I liked the Harvest Moon 75 but the last 1/4 of the drink ended up being very sour, almost like just straight lemon juice. The Waygu Carpaccio was delicious, I definitely recommend, it was very tender and the truffle mayo, horseradish, the large capers and the pepper complimented it very well. The Mousse de Foie Gras came with a large salad on the plate, I believe they were gherkins, two crostini and a cherry compote/sauce. The foie gras was delicious and pared very well with the salad and the cherry on top of the crostini. The gherkins/pickles were very briny and more pickled than anticipated and I don't think it paired well with the dish at all. I did wish there was more crostini to use with the mousse. For our dinner, my friend ordered the In-House Dry- Aged Ribeye which came with brussels sprouts and carrots. I ordered the Filet Mignon Au Poivre but I swapped out the mashed potatoes for fries. For our dinner drinks, I ordered a glass of cabernet sauvignon and my friend ordered the Boucherie Old Fashioned. I had asked for the glass of wine list and my server asked if there was a specific wine that I would like and I had told him that I was looking for a Cabernet Sauvignon so he just brought me the glass. The Old Fashioned was good, a little sweeter than a standard but I didn't really get the lavender that was in the description. The In-House Dry-Aged Ribeye was delicious, and you could definitely taste that hint of blue cheese in it. Cooked beautifully. The carrots were really good and actually tasted more like the brussels sprouts which were surprisingly kind of bland. The Filet Mignon and the green peppercorn sauce it came with was very good and cooked well. The fries were a let down. They were not crispy at all and just a little soggy but they were seasoned very well. I asked for my leftovers to be packed up and I let our server know that I was a little disappointed that the fries weren't crispy and realizing it now could have been the reason that my fries were not packed up. For our dessert, we opted for the Milk Chocolate/Caramel Tart and the Basque Cheesecake with the Sea Salt Caramel sauce. Desserts surprisingly took more time to come out than I thought they would but they accidently brought out the chocolate sauce first which I didn't notice when they first poured it out. The chocolate sauce when we tried it was good but could have been warmed a little more, it was a little thick. I don't know how long it took for our server to come back to let him know that we had ordered the caramel sauce but it was some time before he came back. He took the whole thing away and brought out a new one with the caramel sauce. Cheesecake was good but the sea salt caramel and the Milk/Chocolate/Caramel Tart were very very sweet. Too sweet for my taste but good and would have been good with some coffee. I could only eat a couple bites of each. Overall the service was okay and the food was mostly good. Building was beautiful and it was certainly an experience.

I went back to celebrate my birthday at La Grande Boucherie after having a great experience my first time. We had their new salmon tartare (unfortunately we dug in and didn't snap a photo) and a yuzu/matcha tart that glitters. My husband also tried the Pernod 65, an absinthe drink. Our servers Steven and Danisha Lee were friendly and went above and beyond to make our night special!

La Grande Boucherie has an amazing interior. The ambiance is inviting, with dim lighting and impressive architecture, especially the stunning ceiling. It's beautiful, though be warned--it can get loud. When we visited, they had live jazz, which really enhanced the atmosphere. Our server, Mr. Steven, was exceptional. His deep knowledge of the menu, including details about the food, the aging process of meats, and what to avoid due to allergies, was impressive. He didn't rush us; instead, he gave us time to absorb all the information before we ordered. He even knew the notes in the drinks down to a T. It's rare to get such attentive service without feeling rushed. We started with the French onion soup, escargot, and lobster bisque. The French onion soup was hearty and flavorful. The escargot were perfectly cooked, with the garlic and butter blending to create a smooth, rich taste. Unfortunately, the lobster bisque didn't hit the mark for us--the taste and color felt off.For the main course, my husband had the dry-aged steak, which was phenomenal. I ordered the strip steak, but it was underwhelming and lacked flavor. The vegetables--Brussels sprouts and carrots--were perfectly cooked and delicious.Despite being full, we couldn't resist dessert. My husband had the cheesecake, and I opted for profiteroles, which are essentially little ice cream sandwiches. Both were fantastic! If you're not a fan of valet parking, there's a garage just down the street from the restaurant. There's no parking out front, so keep that in mind. Alternatively, Uber is a convenient option.

First let me start by saying the establishment is absolutely breath taking as soon as you walk in. Grand stair case, beautiful table arrangements, gorgeous high ceilings. The service is definitely 5 star our server was so knowledgeable and kind. Constantly checking on us to make sure we were okay love love love. The food on the other hand was very unseasoned to me. The scallops in the lentil sauce taste like nothing. The salad was also very bland I had to drench it in dressing. Very unfortunate because the place is amazing.
