No pretense, high quality: I've been going there for many years at this point. The market is the real draw to that combination of restaurant and supplier. In fact, I'd rather eat in the market because of the authentic experience. Just ask for "Gator." From fillets, special orders (with a few hours advance notice by phone) to cooking advice, +++ , that crew is top notch when it comes to customer service. Leave them a tip because they will take care of you.

H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. If I could leave no stars, I would. I mean, this place doesn't even know how to prepare a burger at a requested temperature. Why ask if you're just gonna prepare it well done? And to add insult to injury, I make sure to specify HOT PINK center when I order medium because I know how some establishments like to assume you don't know what you're asking for when you clearly state MEDIUM. This spot tries to placate to a certain demographics and for those who are not stereotypical with their preferences and have a more "sophisticated" palate, you will find this place as appealing as your neighborhood McDonald's. Aside from an overcooked burger, I had the displeasure of ordering their smoked wings that were bland beyond bland. They offer a white sauce for dipping. Just as bland. Since you have to leave a minimum one star, let me credit the market downstairs where you can buy seafood, some items cooked to order for takeout and a few other packaged goods. I mentioned my displeasure with the food on a previous visit and he gave me a pack of smoked wings to cook at home. With my doctoring, they were better but still not exceptional. The shrimp I ordered steamed to go were a bit overcooked after my short walk home. I will blame the sealed packaging. Last thing I will point out, for this spot to be tied to a seafood distribution company, shocked that so much of their smoked salmon (if not all) is farm raised. Hard pass.I don't recommend this spot. Management (or part owner so he brags) also has a piss-poor attitude. There are way better spots to patronize in the neighboring NoMa.

The market is a small shop connected to the restaurant. They have a huge selection but not everything is on display. The have a warehouse directly across the street where they keep more inventory. So if you don't see what your looking for then make sure you ask and it's probably across the street. The staff was amazingly nice and helpful. I had some questions about the oysters and they didn't hesitate to crack one open and let me try it. That real customer service. Prices were right on for the quality that you are getting. Parking is quite easyHighly recommended, this is my go to seafood market in DC.

Great selection of seafood. Super fresh. This place is owned by the people that own Profish (wholesaler) next door. So, the fish is always very fresh.Just picked up some jumbo lump MD crabmeat. Not frozen.

I've been a huge fan of Ivy City Smokehouse ever since I heard about it several years ago when I lived next door. I have to say the Fish Market is just as awesome as the restaurant. I stopped by here the other day as I was in the mood for their delicious Whitefish Salad and Smoked Salmon. Upon arriving, the outdoor area was packed for a holiday party the restaurant was having. Luckily, I saw Greg the owner outside who was kind enough to direct me to double park as I was just dropping by real quick to get some items to go. The gentleman who assisted me was awesome. I wish I remembered his name. Anyway, I ended up leaving with Whitefish Salad, Smoked Salmon they make on site, Caviar, Crackers, and Prosecco. I ended up snacking on all this in my hotel room that night and it was delicious. If you're in the area I suggest checking out the restaurant and fish market. Both are incredible.

One of the best kept secrets in Washington DC. This market has the freshest and highest quality seafood items available. You can purchase directly from Profish which is their parent company across the street, but you won't have the personal attention of Gator and Taj who make it worth the trip from Bethesda for us. Gator takes the time to ask what you are preparing for dinner and makes suggestions around your cuisine, something one would usually have to go to the seaport in San Francisco or Boston to find.
