Iron Gate is an amazing restaurant for work lunches and dinners. I have been here so many times, all for work or work-adjacent dinners and lunches and everything is always great. The menu is always rotating but there are a few items that are almost always available. The service is very good and the servers are very knowledgeable and efficient. I love the back area with the fireplace. It's so cozy. For special events, they have a back table that's covered with a tent that can be enclosed. It's very quiet and private, and is very comfortable for larger groups.

We've heard amazing things about Iron Gate and were excited to land a reservation during restaurant week to try it out. For an app I got the heirloom beet salad, which was really good. Sesame crusted feta was something I've never had before, and I really enjoyed it. For dinner I paid the up charge on the bison, and this is where I was super disappointed. Bison is supposed to be lean and the piece I received was 30% solid bone, with the remaining being a solid mix of meat and fat. The gremalada (sp?) on top was an overwhelming addition to the dish as well. The polenta was good. For dessert I got chocolate parfait and enjoyed it! It was super chocolatey. Also disappointing was the wine pairing. We realized that the wines weren't paired to the food item (it was a set of three and that's what you got, regardless of what you ordered off the menu). I was told my middle one was different just because I paid the up charge on the bison.Overall, for the price it was super disappointing. Such a shame because the venue itself is so cool!! I'm not sure I'd be willing to return and try it out again at those prices.

The second venture of the chef from Vermillion in old town. IMO it's better than what Vermillion used to be in terms of quality, service, and creativity. The cocktails, wine pairings, and platings were well thought out. Pacing of the meal was perfect as well, not easily done with this many courses. It's a very well decorated and cool spot sort of hidden behind the iron gates at the entrance. Small bar and a few tables in the front narrow section, with outdoor covered seating in the back patio area, and indoor seating past the patio. No it's not cheap, but things that take effort and time to produce obviously demand a premium price. Worth a splurge for a night out.

Iron Gate in DC offers an unforgettable dining experience. The ambiance is intimate and charming, perfect for a special evening. I tried the Nikolai mocktail, which was perfectly balanced and refreshing. The highlight of my meal was the hamachi and the oyster--both were incredibly fresh, with beautifully layered flavors that elevated the dishes. The attention to detail and service were exceptional, making this a spot I highly recommend for anyone looking for elevated cuisine in DC.

One of the worst meals I've had in a long time. The service was so slow -- yet there was hardly anyone here. I came here for my birthday dinner and couldn't believe just how bad it was.We had a table in the courtyard -- the ambiance was great but that's about all for this experience. It took us 20 minutes to track down our server. We finally got our meal and my steak was freezing cold. We sent it back and my partner ate his meal -- the roasted chicken which was overcooked and dry.By the time my steak came back, my partner ate his meal. This place is overpriced and just not at all worth it. The night before we ate at Albi and that was off the charts good. Never coming back here.

We've all been to that wedding - your partner's friend from college that they weren't that close to to begin with, in some suburban town on the hottest day of the summer with generic New American fare paced out over the evening. But if you haven't been to that wedding, you can experience it in full sitting in the garden at Iron Gate. The restaurant has been serving diners since the 1920's, and you can expect to spend another century here waiting for dessert to come out.The food program started out promisingly with the appetizers - in particular we enjoyed the mushrooms with beautifully caramelized roasted garlic and the crusted goat cheese croquettes served with a refreshing beet salad. Unfortunately the main course fell a bit flat afterwards - the Caesar salad was uninspired, and the raviolis lacked much distinctive flavor. The eggplant in the pasta dish was also a bit rubbery. The cheesecake was probably our least favorite part of the meal - it was hard to even find anything cakelike beneath the tart stonefruit.

we had an amazing dinner and culinary experience tonight! We had the chef family menu for $95 per person but we got all the appetizers plus "surprises" with every course. Beyond the variety and creativity of the food, everything was delicious and we were impressed with how light yet filling the meal felt. We definitely took some of the flatbread and focaccia to go. Our main waiter Chris F went above and beyond with the service, informative conversation, and just getting my husband and I very excited for every course! Our water glasses were never left empty and the service overall was super attentive. Overall, a delightful experience and we will definitely be back!

Very thoughtfully curated menu and delicious. The pickles drink was a bit tart for my taste but everything else was incredible. I'm still dreaming of those squash blossoms! And the honey yogurt cocktail! And such a cute vibe!!! My only complaint was the mosquitoes but they so kindly brought bug spray. It's pricey and small portions, but I'd definitely go back for a special occasion.

I liked it, sat at the bar and ate but my son didn't like his to-go order. I had a really solid beet salad with a fired feta that was delish. The beets were nicely cooked and the fried feta balls were great. They also have a solid hummus with veggies that I really liked as an app.The kid had the prosciutto which he didn't like, he didn't like the sauce on it and after rubbing off the sauce didn't like the prosciutto. For him it was sliced a little thicker than he's had in the past.I did note that a lot of items on the menu have honey and a couple with truffle, which for me are always a no-go, but that's very personal.Bartender was awesome.
