Basic Italian. Nothing too fancy but good food. Everyone at the table was happy with what they ordered. We went on a Friday night after Thanksgiving so they were not too busy which was great as we could sit and talk and were not rushed in any way. Would recommend them if you are in the area looking to have Italian.

Came here for restaurant week which was $40* for an appetizer, entree, and dessert[Food]-Caesar salad was okay. It was drenched in a lot of drenching that it was approaching cole slaw. They added some pickled onion which I am not used to seeing in a Caesar salad and I was not a fan of it.-Papardelle Bolognese was good but a little too salty. Noodles were great quality though and meat was generous-Pannna Cotta was delicious. It came with two pieces of orange that I don't think pairs well with panna cotta but otherwise this was the highlight of the meal-Princess Peach cocktail was excellent. A little sweet but not too sweet. A moderate amount of alcohol. [Ambiance]-quite fancy looking[Service]-good! Checked in frequently*$40 did not include a 20% service fee, which was written at the bottom of the menu, which I would be fine with if most of that went to the server. Except at the end of our meal, our server told us 98% of it goes to the restaurant and 2% goes to the server...then why doesn't the restaurant just charge me $48 upfront?? I felt like this was false advertising. So then obviously we tipped on top of the bill so that the server could get some tips but c'mon, don't tell me my meal is $40 when it's not!

Il Piatto is a gem!I recently went to Il Piatto for a mom-daughter date, and we were absolutely blown away! From start to finish, the experience was impeccable. We started with the risotto balls--crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and packed with flavor. For mains, we shared the oxtail spinach fettuccine and beef short rib ravioli, and I can't even begin to describe how incredible they were. The fettuccine was silky with perfectly braised oxtail that melted in your mouth, while the ravioli was rich and comforting, filled with tender short rib that was simply divine. But the star of the night? The lamb chops. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection--juicy, flavorful, and paired with sides that complemented the dish beautifully. We couldn't resist ending the meal with tiramisu, and it did not disappoint. Creamy, light, and just the right amount of sweetness. The ambiance was cozy yet refined, and the service was top-notch. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel right at home.Il Piatto is an absolute must for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Just 2 blocks from the White House. Can't wait to return!

Brunch at Il Piatto is a steal, check it out! I did the bottomless brunch menu option on a Saturday morning.I started with the Arancini (8.75/10). They're fried risotto balls stuffed with mozzarella, mushrooms, and truffle oil; served with a tomato-cream sauce. So yummy, perfectly crisp and the sauce it came with complemented the flavors so well. Not overpowering, great balance of flavors. The only reason I didn't give it 10/10 was because I didn't taste too much of the mushrooms, but it was still a great starter and I'd def get it again. For my main I got the Italian Eggs Benedict that's served with home fries (7/10). Nothing out of the ordinary, your standard eggs benedict with a twist since it's prosciutto vs ham. I will say the home fries were well seasoned and crispy -- which I loved! For dessert I got the Vanilla Panna Cotta (5/10).I'm a big fan of panna cotta and this didn't really live up to what panna cotta should be. It tasted more like a firm pudding, maybe even a mousse. Panna cotta usually has a more silky, gelatin kind of texture. I didn't end up finishing it because the textures and flavors didn't blend well.*Not Pictured: A delicious Tiramisu French Toast I would 100% get again and bottomless mimosas that come in different flavors. Our options (aside from standard orange) were strawberry, passion fruit, blood orange and piña colada. The passion fruit mimosa was the best one.

I've been to Il Piatto multiple times and my experiences have always varied. It used to be a solid place for bottomless brunch since it was a good deal compared to other places ($25 in spring 2023 to $40 in winter 2024). Now, there's nothing that differentiates it from other popular restaurants. Sometimes there'll be 12 flavors for mimosas, others there'll only be 3. Sometimes servers are attentive and keep your glass filled, other times they leave a pitcher at your table and don't return for a while. The food is good, again nothing great (calamari was crispy and flavorful, Italian shakshuka lacked depth of flavor, chocolate mousse tart was definitely kept in the fridge for a while because the shell was hard/stale-tasting). Il Piatto is fine for bottomless brunch, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

While the food was fine, the fact that they add 20% service charge to all bills was off-putting. When I inquired with the server, I was told he only sees about 2% of that charge, making us feel compelled to give an additional amount to him for a tip. The food was pretty good, though service was slow despite what appeared to be plenty of staff and not many patrons in the restaurant. When it came time to finish up, a woman came to the table to clear plates and asked if we would like our food wrapped. I said just wrap mine, not my husband's. A while later, I see that same woman hanging around with my leftovers nowhere in sight. When our waiter comes back the table and asks if everything is ok, I said I'm not sure as she never came back with my leftovers. He goes to check and sure enough, they were thrown away. He blames language barrier. So now we have to wait for them to re-make my dish, which I really didn't need and tried to say that. They should have just offered to discount that entree. So, that was annoying and time consuming to sit and wait when we wanted to go. Entrees were good (pappardelle bolognese and chicken parm) and so was the bread. It was nice and crispy. Beet salad was unusual, but nothing to brag about. Probably wouldn't return.

Il Piatto was hands-down my favorite meal when I was visiting Washington, DC. The location was perfect, the server and team were incredible, and the food was amazing. We were able to snag a table outside, since it wasn't too terribly hot, and enjoyed the atmosphere with people moving about the city. Our drinks were both very strong, I'm guessing that everything on the menu is strong, which isn't bad, but beware. Of course, starting with bread is never bad, and this was just as good. For my meal, I loved my short ribs, they were made to perfection and had so much flavor. If I were go get back, I wouldn't need to try anything else since I loved them so much. Although, peering at other meals I was definitely seeing other items that also looked good - so I might need to get something new to try it.

I visited with family for brunch and bottomless mimosas. The dining room was cozy and still had some holiday decor in place, giving it a nice touch. The food was good and there were decent choices with the prix fixe option. We had calamari (excellent), Caesar salads, and a beet salad. As entrees we had the smoked salmon Benedict, shakshuka, and tiramisu French toast. As much as the staff were tremendously nice, our service overall was a bit slow. Dessert was probably the best course with a chocolate mousse, panna cotta, and ice cream. I probably wouldn't return for brunch but definitely want to try them out for dinner.

I visited a couple of times for brunch and for dinner. The servers are always pleasant and the food is tasty. In fact, the cocktails are superb. They make the best martinis. The portions are nice and not too large and the ambiance is rustic.

Sat on the patio on a delightful afternoon. We ordered an appetizer and a drink, and the drinks and came out. We then placed our dinner order. Finally, after we had been there a while, we inquired about our appetizer. It came out, but unfortunately our dinners came out about one minute later. I really don't like it when food arrives on top of each other like that, and I believe our appetizer order got misplaced. BF then ordered a glass of wine to go with us to dinner. I think, as a way of making it up to us, our server brought me out a half glass of wine for free. Made me feel better about the experience. The food was good, and I will come back here again. Especially since they tried to do some thing about the appetizer/entrée arrivals.
