I love Galanga Indonesian cuisine. There aren't many places to get Indonesian noshes in the area, so I appreciate Galanga. The owners are so nice. The husband chatted a bit about the cuisine and provided information which I didn't know, which was awesome. He let me try a bite of beef rendang and it was amazing. I almost switched my order. What I did order was the chicken rendang, which came with rice, salad, and a dumpling, along with lumpia. The lumpia were crisp and well-filled. The chicken was delicious and spicy and the vegetables fresh.I'm really looking forward to returning and recommend that you if you see this food truck, you try it.

Spice up your afternoon a lil bit DC. Y'all be sandwichin a lil too much up in the nations capitol. Galanga is servin up RENDANG! Order this. And eat it. You're welcome. For those who are confused... If you took a global vote of the tastiest food on earth.. pizza would be #2. Only #2? Why??! Because the other half of the hemisphere with like a googleplex-million more people on it vote for Rendang. While my autocorrect does not even think rendang is a word, it is actually quite delicious.Anyhooters... this truck makes it really well. I had the beef rendang served on good quality starchy ass rice. I loaded up the chili oil from the plastic serve yourself and ate like a king squatting on a bird scooter throne.

3 to 3.5 stars. I wanted to love it but it was just ok. Ordered the chicken lumpia which was nice but a bit greasy. Also, not particularly packed full with filling. But it was tasty (even without the sweet chili sauce).I was looking forward to the pangsit, but this was totally meh. It had a topping composed of (yum dark meat) chopped chicken, friend shallots, some parsley. I'd recommend asking for a side of soy sauce, get some of that chili oil and pour both over the noodles. The noodles were dressed with a thin soy based sauce that was faintly sweet, but all in all, barely tasted like anything. It was bland. So bland. Even with the friend shallots on top, it really didn't taste like much. So definitely throw on soy sauce and chili oil. +.5 stars for offering chili oil and sambalnolek, vs the boring old Sriracha.

I have been to Galanga a number of times...from their first week of operations through today and am always pleased with not only the taste and quality of the food, but also the polite and pleasant service. My favorites are the Chicken Rendang and the Lumpia. The former is made up of tender chunks of chicken in a spicy (medium) red rendang sauce on a bed of white rice. On the side is a basic Indonesian side salad. The Beef Rendang is similar, but differs slightly as the meat contributes to the sauce flavor. The Lumpia is simple yet delicious...egg rolls with chicken inside that you can both see and taste. So one differentiator from other Indonesian spots that others have noted, the sauce does not soak through all of the rice. This is true - as many would prefer less sauce so they can alter the balance of rice to sauce to their taste - but if someone wants more sauce, the Galanga folks are happy to provide it when asked.I try to avoid knocking other reviews, but I would like to point out that someone who has never had Indonesian food before not being happy that "the sauce was not as creamy as I imagined it would be" does not merit a negative review. If you are unfamiliar with the cuisine and it is not to your liking, then your review is on your personal opinion of the cuisine...not the food that the vendor has served you. Also, if a truck is so popular that it has sold out of it's specialty dish 20 minutes before closing, it should not be given a negative review.Just my opinion...but if you are familiar with Indonesian food and you see the Galanga truck, give them a try! I know I will be back :-)

Wholly mediocre. The cook has an authentic hand with the spicing, however the presentation and quantity are lacking. Two of us had the potato-tofu curry and it was tasty but rather a small quantity, a very sad (undressed) side salad of leaves, and clumpy cold rice. Wish the rice were more fluffy and moist. Wish there were more to eat. Not really worth going back to, just another sad, overcharging food truck. This fad is going to end soon.

This review is for the "Galanga Indonesian" food truck which travels in the downtown Washington DC area during the work-week. One of only a very few Indonesia-centric choices in the region, the owners are a husband-wife team, using a Bali-style cooking and have been around a few years. My favorite is the Rendang Beef w/rice, salad, and green-beans w/tofu as a main dish. (about $11). Second is the Lumpia ($5.50) which usually has 3pcs.Fast, fresh, and good quality food from folks who know how it is supposed to be cooked & served. Recommended.Overall: (****) Yay! I'm a fan.

Not sure why i bother with dc food trucks really - i guess because you don't have much of a choice in mcpherson square. passable noms and prices when you don't want yet another soup, salad, sandwich or hot/cold buffet bar takeout. got the goreng noodles - flavour was good but the chicken was a little dry. not sure if i would ever order again but i didnt hate them.

Surely not a bad option for lunch, though also not one of my favorites. As is standard for dc trucks, a meal will run you about $10, and though it does taste pretty good, I'm not sure it's worth the price tag.I went with the chicken rendang but it wasn't enough to fill me up. That's in part because I didn't eat all the rice, but that's also because it's plain white rice and I'm not gonna waste calories on just white rice. The chicken is dark meat, not white meat, and it comes served with a side salad, which is nice and light, but neither helps fill you up nor is very expensive. Also, you don't really get enough sauce to cover both the rice and chicken sufficiently. As I said, it does taste good but for dark meat, plain white rice, light sauce and just a side salad, I'm not sure it's worth the price.

I am always excited to try a new food truck, especially one that i've never seen before. So when I saw this truck in person I decided to give it a shot despite it being parked 50 feet from a more well-known Indonesian food truck (Sate). After giving it a try I can say that Sate is vastly better than this place.I tried the chicken rendang ($10) and also some of the beef rendang ($11). The prices were comparable to Sate but the portions and quality are not at all. The rendang dishes come with cooked meat with a very small amount of sauce over a huge helping of white rice and a small side salad. The portion of meat was paltry as was the portion of salad - especially when compared to the massive amount of delicious (and diverse) food they give you at Sate. The meat itself was okay - not bad but nothing particularly memorable.Overall i'd say there are substantially better options for the price from other food trucks.

It was my first time noticing this truck in NoMa and according to the operator, he'll be back every Tuesday throughout March 2016. I should start off by admitting that I have never had Indonesian food before, but I love Asian food so I was looking forward to giving this truck a shot.I went with the lumpia and the spicy chicken rending. The lumpia was delicious. The outside was light and crispy and the filling was tasty combination of chicken and bamboo shoots. The dipping sauce was the perfect accompaniment to the rolls.I have mixed feelings about the chicken rendang. It was spicy as advertised, not overly so...just a nice kick. The chicken itself was dark meat, which I love seeing in Asian dishes. It was well cooked, nice and tender. No complaints on the rice. I think I had different expectations for the sauce itself. I was expecting more of a creamy sauce, like a Thai or Indian curry. This sauce seemed pretty thin. The spices tasted like they needed to be cooked more. It was alright, but I would like to try different versions of a rendang in order to have something to compare it to.The side salad was pretty paltry and could use a little dressing. This meal was alright, I'm looking forward to trying this truck again to see how their other entrees fair. They had a beef rendang and some other tofu and veggie entrees that sounded interesting...
