Establishments such as Friendship Gourmet Market are the best of America. It is a small business, apparently run by a family of immigrants. What is special about it is nothing is special: it is exactly what it seems to be. That is meant as praise. It is a reliable, highly local, competently run, friendly shop, clean and with fair prices, offering beer, wine, items you'd find at a chain rival such as 7-Eleven, with a few fresh, hot food offerings for breakfast and lunch. They also have specialty dishes, of Ethiopian origin.I spend considerable time in the neighborhood. I live in New York City. But my elderly father is on his own in suburban DC. My wife and I stay right by this market. If we need something, such as a bottle of wine to with dinner, this is where we stop in. It's great to have it near, and not only for its convenience.I urge people to support Friendship Gourmet Market.

Friendly service all around - have come by here previously for the snacks, wine shop, and lotto, and now leaving a review as I have recently reacquainted myself with their lunch sandwiches -- which have been really good! Simple seating area is spacious, clean, and relaxed for a quick lunch break.

We are so lucky to have this in the neighborhood. They are convenient, friendly and warm. It's truly a store from another era in that the owner and staff are friends with clientele. And, by the way, the coffee is excellent, as are many of the food items. Tremendous wine selection and (in non-covid times) weekly wine tastings. Go there!

Homely, neighborhood deli spot!Friendly lady behind the counter who made the Chevy Chase Sandwich $7.99Flavorful sauce, good coleslaw and crispy bacon. One star review for dumb parking infractions shouldn't detract from this place.Has a wine section and a mini-mart to buy cigarettes/lotto.

Usually come here to buy beer and wine on Friday or Saturday night. Place is pretty over priced, but that's expected of these small corner stores. They've got a small selection of wines and beers - doesn't seem to get re-stocked often, but there's enough variety that you'll find something you'll like. Few snacks and food items - ramen, peanuts and that sort of thing. They have a deli with sandwiches and some pastries. Slightly rough interior, but I don't need anything fancy when I'm popping in for 5 min to grab some drinks.

Great place for breakfast or a late drink of wine. Indoor and outdoor seating. The prices are very good and the food is ample in serving. I ran into the same guy getting breakfast each morning about the same time on 3 occasions. He says he lives near by and he gets breakfast here every morning. Very friendly staff and customers. Good homey feeling food and atmosphere. I do tend to walk to Starbucks for there coffee only to have the stronger stuff but my wife and daughter liked there coffee since it was a bit milder.

Google maps screws up their address, it's actually across the street from the Carleton. These are Some of the nicest people out there. I left my credit card there and they actually dropped it off where I was staying. That's doesn't happen much anymore. They also have a great wine selection!

This "gourmet grocery," doesn't live up to the name. It's a wine store with a deli/bakery counter and doesn't carry much in the way of groceries. There is, for example, no milk. I went in looking for butter. After searching for ten minutes I asked if they had butter. Yes, I was told. The clerk then went to a refrigerator section and pulled a lone pound of salted butter from the back of a case. There was no selection, certainly no "gourmet" butter and no unsalted butter. Take it or leave it.The wine section of the store takes up 2/3 of the space. There is also some beer.

Been coming here for years. Great place for a quick bite and their wine selection is pretty impressive too. Recommend you come down on Fridays for their wine tasting.
