Tried this spot out during our stay in DC. My husband got the rib platter and I chose the beef brisket. Here are my takeaways:*Meat was so tender and seasoned to perfection. You can tell they take smoking meat seriously.*Baked beans had a nice kick to them. Delicious!*Food came out fast. Very few in the dining room since most of their business appears to be takeout or catering. * Wait staff was attentive and offered suggestions.*Coleslaw was sub par as was the potato salad and mac and cheese. *Cornbread was a little on the dry side.I'd say the biggest hit here is the meat! I can see why folks choose them for catering.

This is one of our neighborhood restaurant within walking distance that's been here for a while now - surviving all the ups and downs in many years. However we haven't been here fore a while as the last time we were here we were not too pleased with our order. This time decided to get takeout for a change - it's one of these days when you just don't feel like cooking dinner. We had the beef brisket, baby back ribs, which came with a bunch of sides - corn bread, hush puppies, coleslaw, green beans, and selection of sauces. The meat dishes are good and tender, veggies are tasty, corn bread soft and moist, hush puppies rather dry. Yummy sauces too but in tiny containers size of thimbles barely enough to cover one slice of meat - they seem to expect you to order extra but the included doesn't have to be so meager. Anyway, overall the food met expectations so will likely order from them again.

Used to be a hot spot when it was an Italian restaurant, dead animals on the wall and a beautiful back dining area festooned with grape vines. Then a so-so bakery, and now...Fat Pete's BBQ.Never met Fat Pete but I'm guessing his tastes buds have gone flat. I hate to slam COMEDY venues because there are so few of them. But...For those who get drunk and stop tasting the food thank God...hey, let's go to the comedy show! It's...right here and it's free! Comedians rarely complain about their fairly lousy treatment because it's a dog-eat-dog environment, opportunities to do what you love (those who don't do it well, well that's another chapter). You will find, in many of these amateur venues, the comedians are required to invite their clap-happy friends to the venue. More commonly, actually PAYING to perform. A drink, a menu item. The organizer will gather up as many "comics" as they can to pump up the kitty so they can pay for the use of the venue. And the admission is free to the customer, but not so the talent!Having 10 or 20 comics sign up for a night's entertainment (at say 4 minutes a pop) is a classic quantity vs. quality situation. On June 3rd, it was 30. Thirty comics for one night's show. What a circus. We're comics, tho, people, not clowns.Em Fiske would like to be a comic. She is a terrible one, and I mean even stacked up next to the usual fare of foul-mouthed, loud sometimes-funny comic wannabes. "Fuck" is not funny. "Cooch" is not funny. Not unless you use it in a well-written, funny piece that shocks but makes you laugh anyway. What gets me is if you multiply thirty times a drink or a dish, that makes Em look good to the venue, which is, I guess the deal they've brokered with them. She gets to use the venue and she gets to use the free talent pay for that privilege.Which makes the performers pay for the privilege of Em being a big-shot talent queen.I was set to go on in the 21st slot, which would mean sitting through Em's awful un-funny but weird opening monologue, getting the talent up to the mic one-by-one, some going overtime, maybe even not going on at all. But I figured I would be sitting around eating and drinking for an hour and a half, good for Em but nauseating for me. Brought my wife to see my routine. We left instead. Best deal of the night.

Food was amazing! My wife and I had the two meat plate with sliced brisket and pork belly with greens and we added a small side order of Mac n cheese. The brisket was smoked perfectly and the portions were great! The service was outstanding! Our server was very attentive-constantly checking on us. He was super friendly and related to our multiple food allergies well. He was very kind. Truth be told we were the only people in the restaurant at the time BUT service was excellent. We loved the vibe. It felt like a place where you should eat good food. It was great food!

This is probably a 3.5 review. We came mid-week for dinner and the place was completely empty. There was a lot of foot traffic for pickup, but we were the only ones there - all other tables were empty. The food was fine. I had pulled pork and my wife had the brisket. The meat was okay but not great. The sauces were good but the meat should be great on it's own - but it was just okay. My wife liked the burnt ends but they seemed too fatty and not that burnt for me. The staff was fine and it does look like they have live music some days.

Holy snot, this place is amazing. I grew up in the South so I've had my fair share of BBQ and the only downside is I don't live near one of these. The food is so tasty! Everything has a pleasant flavor and isn't bland. The Mac n cheese and green beans were on another level, so good. I tried the pulled pork and brisket without sauce first and actually preferred it that way. The sauce was very sweet for me but I also prefer mustard based sauces. I came with a large group and they served us family style. They had buckets of drinks waiting for us to arrive and the entire thing was super easy. I don't have enough great things to say about this place. I'm a little broken hearted we tried this on the night before we leave. Otherwise, I would have stopped more often during the trip.

Food was delivered fast, it was delicious,. I had the Brisket Platter. It was amazing! The meat was tender and juicy. The collard greens were seasoned well. The corn bread was so moist, I called it corn pudding! Great service, and atmosphere. I'll definitely tell my family, friends and I'll be back again!

Come on down and give PJ some sass! He'll love you for it. But also enjoy the good food and booze! This is a spot that is close to the metro with only indoor seating at a low top or at the bar. PJ will make sure you get a glass of whatever.. ask him about whiskey... you'll make his day!

Fat Pete's is an underrated gem. Their service is fast, employees are always considerate and the food is delicious. I do wish they had a few more sides that were suitable for vegetarians but the seasonal veggie has always been good when I've had it.
