The best empanadas in the area, hands down! The dough is slightly sweet (maybe that's my imagination...but it tastes great) and the filling is ALWAYS delicious regardless of which variety you pick. My 7-year old and I pick up a couple in the morning and have them for lunch sometime over the weekend. They're good hot or at room temp. The Empanada Stand is often the most active business at the Del Ray Farmer's Market and with good reason. You can count on fresh ingredients and a quality product EVERY time!

The pastry was really good although it's kind of hard and holds in the juice in this empanada. I wasn't used to such a filling, but hear that it is the Bolivian way. I did like the olives and the eggs in it, but the filling was a lot sweeter than expected (I got the beef), and it was laced with onions and cilantro (I hate cilantro). Others have touted that this place is amazing, so I hate to touch that but this guy (who's at the Old Town farmer's market on Wednesdays from 3:30 to I dunno when) might have been too hyped up for me by friends. But really I think that it was just flavors I'm not into that did it, I'm sure some people would think this is amazing. I will try the chicken next week and see how that goes. Follow up review to come.

This place has the best emapanadas I've ever had. The Bolivian type with the beautiful sweet pastry crust, eggs, potatoes, peas, and olives. They have a delicious juicy filling that is much more soupy than the variety from Julias - or most others you've had around town. They're messy, so sit down with a plate. Ask for the green sauce too. Chicken is best, beef is still very good. Unfortunately, the stand is only open on Saturdays, seasonally at the Del Ray Farmer's Market at the corner of Mt. Vernon Ave, and Oxford.
