I love a bar/restaurant with a very neighborhood vibe. Parking was a bit tricky when coming to El Chucho but once we settled in I had such a great time. The bartender was extremely knowledgable about mezcal and tequila which we really appreciated. I had one of their espresso martinis with tequila and a spicy margarita. The martini was delicious the margarita was spicccyyyy so beware unless you love some spice. We also tried the al pastor tacos and some chicken taquitos. I would say the tacos were giving a 2/5, kind of fatty and the taquitos a 3/5. I'll be checking out more of their food the next time I go. But again I appreciated the vibe of this place reminding me of neighborhood bars that I loved in Baltimore.

My wife had the enchiladas Suizas, which were delicious (she could only eat one - they are large) and I had a trio of pork belly/mole tacos that were superb, and presented in an elevated style, flat with refried black beans beneath. Very special. The house margs were yummy, followed by a Negra Modelo for me with the entree. The menu is not Tex Mex, it's more traditional, actual Mexican, which I appreciated (though I do love proper Tex Mex). The bar is stocked with a deep cut mix of Mezcal which I want to delve into next time.Staff was super attentive - 3 people checked in on us from entrance to exit. The ambiance is that of a neighborhood favorite bar/restaurant with an appreciable history and clientele, though I don't know how long the place has been there. Highly recommend, and I'll be back as often as I can make an excuse to be, given that I live a half hour away (lucky neighbors - I'm jealous of you!)

Let me start off with the good. The food is incredible. Everything we had was excellent.Let me also just get the bat out of the way. The restaurant at a 1.95% surcharge on all checks, however, the issue is that the surcharge is actually not 1.95%. It is closer to 2% or 2.1% . This is a little scummy by the establishment. However, like I said, the food is excellent. We started off with the queso fundido. This had so much flavor with the fresh tomatoes and onions on top, but the Cheez itself was grilled beautifully. The tortillas were also double layers and tasted fresh and homemade. Then we got some tacos. The duck tacos are by far the best that this place has. Super crispy and flavorful duck. That taco lives rent free in my mind. The Ahi tuna taco was also very unique as I had not tried this before. Seared ahi tuna was cooked really well. I do wish they had served this with some lime to bring it together. Finally, we tried the chicken tacos. These were also excellent, however, I personally prefer Pollo Asado over shredded chicken. Again, I think if they added a salsa or some lime, this would really bring the dish together well. The mango Agua fresco was delicious. Refreshing, bubbly, but they only give you a small quantity and fill it to the brim with ice. Service overall was fine. They came by once to fill up our water, and maybe two other times to just check on us.The atmosphere is also excellent. They have an upstairs enclosed heated area, which was nice to get away from the rowdiness at the bar downstairs. Overall, I would come back just for the queso as well as the duck tacos.

Came here with a couple of friends and got a solid burrito. This is a hole-in-the-wall spot but really enjoyed the food here. My recommendation is to get teh burrito chupacabra. It is honestly big enough for two people and it was PACKED with the birria-style brisket. The fixins that came alongside worked so well. The pickled radish, which I terrifyingly mistook for carrots at first, added a bit of crunch and slight sweetness. The chipotle aioli was not too spicy and the cheese smothered all over were great additions. I also got some sour cream which made it even better.

We recently had a really fun night out at El Chucho. Yes it's a bit loud and a bit tight but the vibes are really fun. The service is very friendly and efficient. You never need to wait long for your food or to be offered another drink. It's a great neighborhood place that definitely fills up on the weekends. So make a reservation and go have a great margarita.

Found this place on Yelp...and I'm glad I did! It's a tiny place, but it was a nice night and they have a big patio, so we sat out there. The salsa was better than nearly any other restaurant I can remember. The elote was amazing! Our server suggested the flautas and that was an excellent recommendation!I had the asada tacos - they were good but a little dry. My daughter really enjoyed the birria quesa-taco.Overall, a really tasty dining experience! And it's super inexpensive!

One of my favorite taco spots in DC! Seating is very limited so small parties are better (4 at most really; 2 is better) and only street parking is available but the staff is friendly, the food and drinks here are actually good AND it's reasonably priced for the city so it's totally worth it! Fyi they also have many vegetarian and non alcoholic cocktail options here. I have tried their tacos al pastor, fish, shrimp, steak and elote, and I also love their salsa and guacamole! I'll keep coming back more!
