El Amigo Carry Out

I slithered into El Amigo on a rainy Friday evening a mere week ago. It is not, however, already a tale of bygone years! I was seduced by the simplicity of it all. The crowd in the restaurant was also a positive sign. I found the food--Salvadoran food, to clarify--tasty and reasonably priced. I have thus awarded El Amigo a full four (4) stars.Four (3) stars are awarded to the food itself. I ordered the carne deshilada, which was served in a voluptuously heaping quantity with rice, salad, and a thicc tortilla typical of the cuisine. And a full half of a lime, eager to be juiced. The meat was TENDER and FULL OF FLAVOR, UNRAVELLED as its title would necessitate. How they managed to so quickly and effectively unravel an otherwise tightly woven chunk of flesh remains a mystery. But a mystery that works in our favor.Now, an additional single (1) star, of course, is awarded to the value of the meal. A very reasonable price. I can't tell you exactly how much it cost, since I got a dank quesadilla for the road (you never know when you'll need some quesadilla!) and I'm not sure how much each item cost. But very reasonable indeed, of this I can assure you! One note for those of you dependent on plastic: when I was there, their card reader was broken, so it was cash only. Bring the paper.If only I took a photo, since this Yelp page is bereft of inspiring imagery.I would recommend El Amigo for your Salvadoran food needs and for your friendship needs.

I love that they are on Too Good To Go! All of this food cost less than $5 and was tasty as heck. The chicken was perfectly tender, and the rice was delicious as well. Highly recommend if you see it on the app!

I've been coming here since I was a little girl and I as always the food was great and so was the service. I got the pupusas de queso y de frijol.

Sorry. Wasn't impressed. The rice, beans, carrots... none of them were tasty. The pupusa was hard and bland. I have to give a pass.

I ordered Chile relleno single the menu is 12 and they charged 16 and I think is over price is to small

10/10 will be coming back great food! Great people really enjoyed the food! Had a carne asada and it was great!

This Salvadorian cuisine is authentic & very well mannered. It has a great reputation for good food, service, and hours! I recommend it to all those who are looking to have a great meal & support mom and pop shops over the usual restaurant chains.

Stopped in here when out and about for some lunch. I ordered the pupusas and the chicken tamal with rice and beans. My dad ordered the chicken taco. This place is a dive place, which I love, but don't come here if that is a problem for you. The food was really good, and I loved that the locals came here to eat. Its like the local El Salvadorean Diner. The food was made to order. The tamal was on the runnier side, but had good flavor.My dad complained the the tacos were on the drier side, but being from Chicago he is used to the Mexican version of tacos (he is not an adventurous eater, so take his opinion lightly). I tasted his taco, and it tasted good to me, just not a Mexican style taco. My daughter loved the beans and rice. The staff was friendly, and so were the other customers. They do have bathrooms behind the counter to use as well if you ask.

Beware their online ordering!!!Placed an order through their website which links to ordering hosted on mealage.com. When I showed up, they had no record of my order and said that they only take orders through grub hub and uber eats. Just had to spend time calling my bank and cancelling my card because of the suspicious ness of it al. Was reaaaaly hungry at that point, so just ordered pupusas and paid cash. The pupusas were great.
