Really impressed with my dinner experience at Dishes of India.Despite not having a reservation, the staff were able to seat us right away on a busy Friday night. The ambiance was classy yet relaxed. There were tablecloths on the tables and formally dressed, professional servers. Yet, the atmosphere wasn't stuffy or uptight. I felt right at home.The food was amazing. I got the vegan masala dal, and it reminded me of dal makhani. The basmati rice flavored with saffron was delicious. Great portion, and our party got extra rice, no problem. The service was friendly and attentive. I never felt rushed, just comfortable. I'd highly recommend this hidden gem in Alexandria.

My coworker who was born in India (so I trust her judgement) brought me here for lunch buffet. I tried every single thing they had and loved all of it. I think she likes it particularly as a vegetarian because they had a lot of non-meat options. We split a mango lassi as well. Nice option for lunch buffet

Haven't been in awhile, but glad we came back! The food and service were great! We enjoy the quiet atmosphere.

Food here is delicious , service is great and the ambiance is very mellow. The bread basket includes a variation of different naan flavors and my favorite is the one with lentils I believe and onion. I love the samosas with the sauce that's green , it tastes like fresh herbs, and dark brown, which tastes like a sweet glaze. I would come here till I die.

It's been many years since I have been to an Indian buffet (Namaste in Portland, OR), so I wasn't sure what to expect at Dishes of India. But I was pleased from the get-go.Note: the buffet is only offered on weekends between 11:30am-2:30pm,Dishes of India is located in the Belle View shopping plaza. When you enter Dishes, you immediately descend a mirror-encased stairwell which leads to the restaurant.Dishes of India is upscale with linen tableclothes and a formally dressed wait staff. Service was excellent and responsive, with frequent offers of beverage refills and prompt clearing of dishes.I tried all the buffet dishes and found them all to be tasty. I have an aversion to cilantro and was very pleasantly surprised to discover their dishes did not contain cilantro, with the exception of the Tandoori chicken.In the hot foods section, my favorites were the samosas, lentil stew, chicken in tomato sauce and a very nice basmati rice.Complimentary naan bread is provided.For dessert, Dishes of India had a most delicious chilled rice and pistachio pudding. It was so good, I had three servings of it. They also had what I would describe as doughnut balls in a sweet sauce, which were very good.

Best takeout Indian I've had in the area, beats anything else in the Alexandria or Del Ray area. Super fresh, loved the spices, good quality meat and perfect amount of heat.

I'm thrilled that I found this neighborhood gem! The food was incredibly delicious, and the ambience and friendly staff made this a very pleasant experience. I started out with a very tasty Samosa appetizer, and then savored a Goan-Fish Curry Salmon dish that was very fresh and bursting with flavor. Leave room for dessert. Their rice pudding and home-made pistachio ice cream is pure ecstasy. Not surprisingly, the restaurant was packed. I highly recommend Dishes of India! You won't be disappointed.

Listen, them tandoori wings! Them tandoori lamb chops was hitting! They turned me every way but loose! This was an exciting surprise! The food way carry out and amazing. Highly recommended!

Gosh! Someone knows how to cook with real spices! Please come to Old Town!! We need more places like this.
