Cuban Espresso

Breakfast or lunch, the food is amazing. They are constantly upgrading things inside, which is great to see.The lunch is my personal favorite. I recommend the Steak & Cheese or the Cuban Sandwich.

This is in reply to Luis P, manager of "Cuban Espresso"Sir: I speak from vast experience: my family owned Cuban restaurants in New York, Boston, and Tampa. They owned a part of Centro Vasco and Montmartre in La Habana, Cuba. I GREW UP watching top notch chefs prepare coffee, food, desserts, all served with best efforts. Please, don't spin my critique as if I didn't know what I'm saying. I'm honest. If your place was good, I would say "bravo, excellent ". My posts in Yelp prove this. I KNOW good cuisine, regardless of nationality. You're dishonest. Because you didn't like what I wrote and your restaurant was lacking in what you serve, I am therefore a racist, a xenophobe, and narrow-minded. That is a cheap fix, my friend. "Yelp" is a forum where people are invited to think, criticize, and opine. Bad food is bad -- either here, there, or on the Moon. I've never used obscenities in any of my critiques. If you don't like my critique, simply state it. We don't know each other sir, so please, don't stoop low and bring this to a personal level, because I was never there. And my review of Cuban Espresso solidly stands.

I just wanted a simple, non-complicated, non-brunch, non-pretentious, breakfast in the neighborhood while out running errands and slightly after standard breakfast hours. This place was perfect. It's a simple little Cuban cafe that's deceptively spacious. There's ample seating for a couple groups and nice window counter space for people watching--my favorite activity. A nice espresso and a large window onto a busy street are the little things that make my days complete. The plates are all made to order and pretty quickly ensuring that you get a hot meal. I'm sure that I'll pass back by this place again for a midday stop.

The woman who owns it has a terrible attitude and is super mean to the customer. The Cuban sandwich that I ordered is also incredibly salty and it hurts to eat and the Cuban sandwich is required to only have three pickles, which is not enough for a good Cuban sandwich

I have been to Cuban Espresso once for food and 3 or 4 times for coffee- the aforementioned Cuban espresso is a decadent caffeine boost and the cuban sandwich is quite good, especially for the price.Most memorable part of the experience was striking up a conversation with the espresso operator, who was eager to talk about what went into the coffee. A very pleasant and informative chat.The interior is austere and geared for takeout, but the few tables and chairs are comfortable and rarely occupied. If I lived closer I would be a regular for the breakfast platters, which look wonderful. I hope they can make it work in a building that has seen a lot of turnover the last few years.

Amazing food, coffees and service. This is a really quick and clean spot, and it's conveniently located. Sandwiches are bomb too. Definitely a must-go if you're on the way to work or the metro stop.

Interesting new addition to Columbia Heights. Was very excited to have a Cuban Cafe so close to my house, but there was a disappointing lack of actual Cuban treats. I opted for a Cuban sandwich with fries, a coffee, and an order of Cuban tostones. The service was super friendly, I would go back for that alone. I grabbed food to go since I live right down the street so I was a bit disappointed when I got home to find that the the tostones were so overcooked to the point of being inedible (I was worried I might break a tooth). The fries that came with the Cuban sandwich were also over cooked and I ended up throwing them away. The Cuban sandwich was pretty tasty but also didn't blow me away. I will say the prices are very reasonable and the service was great so I'm hoping these are just some growing pains!

This place is so delicious. The exterior may deceive you but the sandwiches, wings, fries, and more are really good. The service is great - I've ordered from them many times since they've opened and they are worth it. I always get the Cuban sandwich. Can't rave enough and definitely recommend.

Cuban espresso took me back to miami. Amazing. good tunes, staff was pleasant and quick.

Stopped by Cuban Espresso today on our way to grab lunch. We were greeted by the nicest man ever with the biggest and warmest smile. His customer service was exceptional! We ordered a classic espresso and a Cuban espresso. The espressos are AMAZING. Some of the best I have ever had. The Cuban Espresso is to die for, I will be thinking about it for a while.
