We love Crooked Run and J&J's. It's a fun and welcoming environment. They have a large TV for watching a game. The beer is unique and delicious. The wings (especially the mambo and buffalo) are great! The bar tenders are friendly. Overall, it's a great spot to drink a beer with friends! Please go check it out!

Crooked Run / J&J Pizza is pretty good. They have a cool space with a large window that opens garage style, standard indoor seating, and some outdoor seating. The beer menu is pretty large, with about 17 drafts available, mostly lagers, IPAs, and sours, and a few unusual styles. Food is pretty standard; mostly wings and typical New York style pizza.I visited a few times last year when they had the old pizza menu, which I preferred because it was more interesting. Their current pizza is fine, but New York style is nothing special, and theirs isn't as good as nearby Andy's Pizza. They have a good happy hour: $12 for two slices pizza (cheese or pepperoni) and one 12oz beer, Monday to Friday from open to 6 PM.On my most recent visit on a Monday early evening, the place was pretty quiet and empty. We got the happy hour deal with good pepperoni pizza, and I liked that the slices were huge -- much bigger than I expected. Beer was good as it usually is. When I ordered, I tried to redeem some loyalty credit on the Toast app, but the bartender didn't know how to do this and basically shrugged it off. He was the only one working (so no one else to ask for help) and showed no interest in actually helping me, so I paid and will try again another day. If you're going to have a loyalty program, you need to train your staff how to use it.

Great pizza and great trivia! Literally what else can you ask for? Their Buffalo chicken pizza was absolutely outstanding and was just as good, maybe even better, cold the next day!

Great new brewery that adds to the DC beer scene! Seating is open with a large bar. It feels a bit like an science lab but with so many things to look at. Large TV for watch parties. They have a large outdoor patio area that looks great for groups! They have a $16 pizza (cheese or pepperoni) and beer combo which applies to most of their lagers and traditional beers. Our favorite beer was their Jake-O-Lantern which kicked while we were there - so happy we got to try it! We also really liked their Oktoberfest beers. I found the menu to be well organized. For the non beer drinkers they have wine and cider, and for the non drinkers they have a whole section of options as well! Service was great, the staff knew their beer selection well and was able to give recommendations based on what you like. Looking forward to coming back!

We went here on a Friday night and it was easy to find a seat. They have seating outside and also can open the window for the inside. We got a bunch of samplers and none of them were really impressive. Not the best brewery in DC but the staff were super friendly.

Nice spot in the Union Market area if you want a beer. They have a solid selection with tons of varieties. I tried their stout, which is super smooth and creamy, very good. The inside is a bit sterile, but they have a lovely little patio outside. They serve J&J Pizza if you want a snack, and it hits the spot.

Pretty good beer selection. They were out of the original one I wanted but bar tender helper with a similarish option. Also got their pizza which was a good size, they also sell by the slice. Staff was nice and knowledgeable definitely excited to be doing the job they're doing. We sat at the bar but there is lots of options for seating including outside. My only complaint is there is only one spot to order from which maybe has changed since i was there last. Overall would recommend, looking forward to going back and trying more things!

They just opened a week-ish ago at this location in Union Market. I live in Richmond and they distribute here, but it seemed like a cool stop to make with a group of beer lovers from other places too.Our party of five squeezed into a 4-top. It was a very family friendly environment with strollers and babies surrounding us. They have the ordering system via Toast where you scan the bar code on your table and they bring your stuff out.We weren't there long when the sun landed straight in my face through the garage door windows. I noticed they had sunglasses on their menu, which seemed cute, so I ordered some. It took ages and me getting up to check on them to find out they were out of stock. I was super bummed, but our server was so so nice and comped a couple tasters and then a friend switched seats with me. I do hope they have blinds on order or that place is going to be a sauna in the summer.Beers didn't take long to arrive to our table and checking out via Toast was super easy. I had the two sours I hadn't already tried in the past, plus two pilsners (surprisingly good, I'm not usually a fan) and an English mild on cask. The space is small and pretty loud when full. It's a good stop in the area for tasty beer.

The first brewery in the Union Market area, Virginia-based Crooked Run Fermentation offers a variety of beers, sours and a hard cider on tap in a relaxed space. Located on the bottom of one of the new apartment buildings, here's what you should know.1) Beer: They sell a variety of beers on tap from IPAs to lagers to sours that come in 6, 12 or 20-ounce glasses. As a sour and hard cider fan, I was happy to see two sours on tap and a hard cider. The cider is on the drier side and the Raspberry Empress wasn't very sweet or sour. However, the Merrang! was the winner. It's a sour with unique flavors and a semi-sweet thread. I'd go back for the Merrang! 2) Food: Pizza Serata from a Michelin star chef sells salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and dessert. It's a well-curated menu. The grilled treviso salad is flavorful and delicious! The pizzas are well put together and unique. Sliced in four pieces, the crust is thick and the ingredients flavorful. The Hot + Bothered with the Calabrian chili oil and honey was tasty! (The honey is not overpowering.) 3) Hours: It's open every day at 11:30 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 12 a.m. Friday and Saturday.4) Space: It's one large room with bar seating and many tables from small to large for groups. Once it's summer, they hope to open a dog-friendly outdoor patio. They have uni-sex restrooms and one has a baby-changing table. 5) Parking: There's limited street parking so your best bet is the Union Market lot or the underground parking garage at La Cosecha. 6) Neighborhood: Near Union Market and La Cosecha, there's lots to do in the area. Across the street is A Litteri, an Italian market with a deli in the back. Best Kitchen is close where you can find gems for your kitchen at more affordable prices.

Fun and airy spot with a solid cooler of to-go options, super friendly staff/ownership, and great pizza and wings to pair with the beer selection. The rotating taps are fun and not overwhelming, making for easier selections and a fun imbibing experience. Cheers!
