Loved the energy and vibe of this wonderful speakeasy. Our waiter, Emilio was very nice and answered all our questions and reminded us to take part in Happy hour with 18 minutes remaining! We ordered drinks: Mary Pickford and Southside. I thought the Mary Pickford was beautifully balanced. The menu had a lot to choose from! I narrowed down to trying the brussel sprouts and the tuna tartare on the happy hour menu! They were both delicious! As my main I had the scallops-- very succulent. I really enjoyed the garlicky spinach mixed with the parmesan risotto. My friend took advantage of the restaurant week menu where you could pick out an appetizer, entree and dessert for $55. She tried the bone marrow, surf and turf and crème brûlée. We both thought the bone marrow was interesting, I'd never had it before. She said it was more filling than she anticipated. The surf and turf was very tough, both steak and lobster. I think due to the steak being cut into small pieces it couldn't retain any moisture-- so pieces were dry. My friend said the lobster was hard to chew. The only part that was soft was the unexposed part in the lower part of the tail. We both agreed the dish has a lot of room to improve. She didn't leave any part of the crème brûlée dish untouched! She was kind enough to let me steal a bite!We both tried different versions of the espresso martini. I really enjoyed mine with baileys. Would definitely come back!!Ps. Give a knock at the door :)

Love a speakeasy. This one is themed to the extreme. I liked that! They really dive into prohibition era. I only had their oysters and signature code red cocktail. Really enjoyed it.Service was quick, but I can on a slow weeknight. Music is great and low enough to converse. It'd be a fun date night experience or group spot!

HOT. I'm not talking about the room temperature (I'll never find that in DC - at least I wasn't too cold!), and I'm not talking about the drinks (why don't more places offer hot cocktails year-round, and also, why aren't there more hot cocktails?) I'm talking about the bartenders - there were three men behind the bar when I went yesterday, and they were all devastatingly handsome in their smart-looking uniforms. I have a weakness for well-dressed men, what can I say? I also want to note the dapper gentleman at the door, who not only led my partner and I inside the "speakeasy", he even got us side-by-side seats at the bar by politely asking another patron to move over a seat for us.I went into effusive detail about the staff because that was really the best part of the experience for me. The decor is a little over the top in its speakeasy kitchiness, but it does set a certain vibe. My drink was a MISTAKE. I don't drink cocktails often these days so I decided to be adventurous and try the Yellow Negroni - for those who like Strega, this is for you, but I have learned that I am not a fan. My partner did the smart thing and went with his safe standby, a Manhattan on the rocks. He was pretty happy with it.I might consider coming back to Code Red to try a different drink at happy hour; hopefully I would be able to snag a nice lounge chair without needing a reservation. More likely with a friend than my partner though, since the ambiance lends itself more to fun that romance.

Love this speakeasy! It was so fun having to knock and wait to be let in and having to tell them the secret code word. Besides how cool the ambiance and intimate vibe was, the drinks were delicious, the service was great, and the food was surprisingly yummy. So often bars don't have great food, but this one definitely did! Highly recommend for a fun little speakeasy experience!

The place is a vibe, truly. A good spot to meet up with friends or even a date. They have dim lighting and limited seating but there are a good amount of seats at the bar. MAKE A RESERVATION. That's a must. I don't drink alcohol so I chose the sour egg white drink and it was vile. Bitter and sour was all I could taste. No bueno. I then decided to replace it with a virgin mojito which sufficed. The drink I wanted they didn't have which was disappointing. For food, I ordered the fried calamari. It was a 7/10. Good crispiness but not much flavor. The duck fat fries had a gamey after taste which isn't good and they were steak fries, too chunky. The food may not be what you come here for.

Went to code red for happy hour and had a very pleasant time. We ordered the arincini and palm ceviche as well as several drinks. I enjoyed everything and found the food to be inventive and high quality. Would love if this bar added aviations to their menu, even if just as a special. Was happy to see the array of absinthe cocktails though. It's true that the theme is not subtle but it is not too over-the-top and the bar can still be enjoyed as a regular neighbourhood bar. The happy hour is reasonably priced so this is a good option if you are in the area and want a more unique experience.

Didn't make a reservation and we were able to cash in on their happy hour, which is 4-7 daily. The setup is really cool, its prohibition era with tons of artwork and decor throughout. Our server was great, tons of high energy, frequently checked in and shared their new drink specials. Unfortunately, service was very slow, we waited 35 minutes for our drinks to come out, so much so that we closed our tab before the drinks even came. Now, the drinks were delicious, but the wait time is what really impacted my rating. I'd like to come back during the week and see if there's a difference.
