We always look in their cake display to see if they have galaktoboureko that day. They don't always make it, but when they do.....we are on it!A good cup of coffee started the meal right! My wife liked the strong brew. I just sank into the perfectly warm cup.I was looking for something different so I also ordered some Strawberry Blintzes to go with my Catfish breakfast.The waitstaff were quick with the coffee refils and the the food also came out in short order.The catfish fillets were nicely breaded and fried crisp. Grits were cooked well to a creamy texture. Eggs were made perfectly to order as well, with a rich oozy yolk for dipping the corners of my toast.. The blintzes were good, and served with sour cream, fresh strawberries and a strawberry compote. I mistook the sour cream for whipped cream and it took a few tastes before I realized it was sour cream. This was a good meal for doing some heavy weekend work.We love the City Diner, but wish it went back to the pre-covid hours where we could come for a late night meal. Absolutely enjoy the City Diner. There's a reason it's been here so long. Delicious food and great service. Usually I go for breakfast. The French toast or pancakes hits the spot. Kudos for the strong coffee. Lunch and dinner has plenty of options. This is a clean diner. In many ways it's a reminder, of my favorite ones up in New Jersey. There are lots of Greek entrees too. Service has always been super. All of the employees are polite and fun. Also they've managed to keep prices reasonable. Whether alone or with family, this place is well known and supported.

My wife and I came here for late brunch on a Saturday. This is a really cool, old-timey family run institution. The hobo banquet was awesome and we ordered two! Service was great overall. I asked about the bloody mary and they comped me a sample of the mix (it was tasty). The onion rings were also amazing: perfectly cook and good consistency in the batter. Prices were great and portions were big. We had two boxes to take home. I was curious about the NYC decor so I spoke with the guy running the register (the owner?) for a bit as well. Great, kind gentleman and a former NYer (like me). He is VERY knowledgeable about the diner business and knows his trade. He also mentioned some wisdom to me that will stick with me for a while. We made out with a ton of food, an amazing impression, and a little wiser. I highly recommend this place!!!

Service was great; and the ambiance was typical diner style. My food choice wasn't as I expected. I had pancakes with chicken instead of waffles. I had to order eggs separately. This was the main issue. I requested cracked eggs, I don't think this was what I got. Also, two eggs costed me the price of a carton of eggs, $6.50 and they were processed. The pancakes were not light or fluffy. The chicken needed some seasoning.

They have a huge menu selection, but I went with the french toast and a side of corned beef hash which both were very good. The dine in atmosphere is very nice and staff extremely friendly. Old school diner that feels like it's been around forever in a good way. Place feels comfortable almost like it could be a movie diner set. Portions are huge and I've never had a bad meal here. Been here for breakfast most but also enjoyed dinner the couple times I've had it here. Can't go wrong with a waffle or pancakes and a side of bacon or grits or both. Coffee is just right too. Service is always very fast and friendly. I've enjoyed many meals here and will keep coming back.

We visited on a Sunday morning. It seemed disorganized and messy inside. Maybe we just missed the rush. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated. Menu is pretty standard for a large diner. All food we ordered was OK. Not bad but not amazing either. I thought the French toast was a little overcooked but not terrible. Bagel was very basic...more like bagel shaped bread (definitely not a NY style bagel). With so many diner options in NOVA I'd rather go elsewhere like Silver Diner, Bob and Edith's, or Ruthies All Day.
